A Wrap-Up of LEGO’s Latest Interesting Exclusives.

A couple of weeks ago, we had our first look at some never-before-seen (and heard) LEGO exclusives that were initially spotted at LEGOLAND Billund in Denmark. From a versatile minifigure display  frame and a minifigure guessing game, LEGO continues to show us ways on how the typical plastic bricks may be used in new and practical ways.

Just recently, shop.LEGO.com has listed these previously reported sets with a release date of June 1 in the US both via shop@home and at LEGO brand stores, together with some items that may catch your fancy. Let’s take a look at each of them.

Can This Be The Largest, Most Expensive, LEGO Auction Ever?

293405293_6-lego-collection-1978-2014-2000-modeles

Minifigure Price Guide recently pointed us to a very interesting oddity in this side of LEGO collectors’ world. Belgian auction site 2ememain posted what could probably turn out to be the largest, and most expensive LEGO sets and items ever auctioned. Similar to eBay, 2ememain is Belgium’s biggest and most popular online market with more than 6.4 million monthly unique visitors and more than 4 million listings.

Listed by a certain Karto believed to be based in Hannut, Belgium his post has been viewed more than 18,000 times in just less than 24 hours. What makes Karto’s offer mind-blowing is the fact that his reported collection consists of more than 2,000 sets which he claims to have acquired from 1978 until 2014.

For some reason, he decided it’s time to kick the bucket on his collecting activities. Weighing almost a ton, he now puts his rare LEGO sets for auction at an unbelievable price of 80,000 Euros or almost $90,000 USD. As of this writing, four bids have already been placed, with the highest offer at 82,500 Euros. Karto didn’t hold back in cataloguing his prized collection, saying that he managed to snap 12,000 pictures worth of documentation which has a combined file size of more than 16GB.  All in all, it took him 120 large boxes just to pack-up his LEGO sets and he even rented a truck just to haul all of them when he transferred his place of residency.

Based on a rough Google translation, the following are the highlights of his collection.

  • 208 train models (122 in original box)
  • 1063 models of the city (800 in original box)

A few months back, we had a glimpse of what LEGO has in the works regarding their latest summer offerings under the LEGO Technic line. First spotted at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany last January, these latest sets focused on the impressive intricacies of heavy machines such as the LEGO Technic Volvo EW 160E (42053), LEGO Technic CLAAS XERION 5000 TRAC VC (42054) and the LEGO Technic Bucket Wheel Excavator (42055). It was finally capped off by LEGO’s latest Technic flagship model that celebrates the automotive genius of the iconic Porsche with the LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056).

Now, thanks to Bricker, we now have our official images for these latest LEGO Technic offerings, particularly for the first three in the series, with 42056 revealed earlier last April.

First Look At the LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 and Ecto-2 (75828) Box Art.

LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (75828)

After the official announcement and images released for the new LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 and Ecto-2 (75828) last February, things were a little quiet on this side of the LEGO ghost-hunting scene. Those who are patiently waiting for these highly anticipated sets are slowly being rewarded as LEGO reveals more and more details on these based on the modern, all-female cast rendition of the 80s classic, Ghostbusters.

Since it was announced having a release date of July 1, it was expected to show up at LEGO’s monthly Store Calendar anytime soon – and it did. Making its re-appearance in the LEGO Store July Calendar, we can see the crew in action together with their iconic vehicles.

75828 July Store Calendar

This time, Bothan brick spy just2good over at Eurobricks gives us another morsel of information on what to expect from these latest LEGO Ghostbusters sets. He managed to get his hands on the very first image of the official box art for 75828. With images that are quite familiar to us already, we now know that the Ecto-1 and Ecto-2 LEGO Ghostbusters sets contain 556 pieces retailing at $59.99.

lego-gostbusters-75828-box

It’s nice of LEGO to add ‘2016 Movie’ on 75828’s box art to somewhat make it distinct from other Ghostbusters sets, though I feel it does not sit well with the rest of the box art’s details. In any case, I think we’ll all agree that what’s inside the box is more exciting. I’m sure that we’ll have more news on this, especially that the all-new Ghostbusters reboot movie will be showing in theaters on July 15. Who knows, there might be other 2016 Ghostbusters sets lurking around, just waiting to be revealed. If you want to see more close-up photos of the LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 and Ecto-2, click here.

New LEGO Star Wars Rebels A-Wing Pilot Minifigure Polybag Spotted.

Hoth Bricks recently revealed what could a be a new polybag offering with the LEGO Star Wars Rebel A-Wing Pilot as seen in the Star Wars Rebels animated series. We have no information yet on whether this new minifigure is part of a promotional, or a stand-alone purchase. It is interesting to note, however, that both Price Vortex and Brickset lists a 2016 LEGO Star Wars set – the LEGO A-Wing Starfighter 75143 – that may perhaps also include a similar minifigure. Again, news on this set is scant so we’ll keep on the lookout for this one. For those of you who are not yet that well-versed on the different characters in Star Wars Rebels series, Hoth Bricks posted a screenshot of one of its episodes showing the rebel pilot. Take a look at the character on the right side of Ahsoka Tano.

On a similar note, just2good over at Eurobricks gave us a pair of better looking images that highlights the nice detailing on the rebel pilot’s helmet. The helmet’s printed design is quite impressive, which gives the minifigure a balanced look in spite of lacking any prints on its legs.

We’ll keep you posted on how this polybag will be distributed so be sure to stay tuned here at the Brick Show.

LEGO Nexo Knights: The Book of Knights Exclusive Minifigure Officially Announced.

nexo-knights-book

Way back in April, we reported that Dorling Kindersley has launched another character and guidebook focusing on the valiant defenders Knighton in its LEGO Nexo Knights: The Book of Knights by Julia March. This latest LEGO-themed offering from DK chronicles the training and quests of the Nexo Knights, including a fold-out poster, new scannable Nexo power, and a section about upgrades and enhancements that the Knights receive from the virtual wizard, Merlok 2.0.

Similar to previous LEGO and DK collaborations, the said book comes with an exclusive minifigure that most collectors are keen to have, and just recently, DK’s website has been updated to officially reveal its first minifigure offering under the LEGO Nexo Knights theme. It’s Merlok the Magician in his physical form prior to his transformation to a virtual holographic wizard, as seen in the first episode “The Book of Monsters – Part 1”. Here’s DK’s official statement on this exclusive:

merlok the magician

Prepare to enter a futuristic knights’ realm, with epic quests, scary monsters and true technical wizardry in LEGO® NEXO KNIGHTS™ The Book of Knights.

Young knights battle monstrous foes in the exciting land of Knighton, The Book of Knights chronicles these heroes and their adventures, complete with exciting powers and upgrades from a virtual world!

Full of brand new LEGO sets and characters such as Lance, Macy and Jestro, The Book of Knights comes with a new and exclusive LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS Merlok minifigure, from before he becomes Merlok 2.0!

Reminiscent of LEGO’s Castle theme, the Merlok the Magician minifigure comes with a down-to-earth detailing with less the high-tech dazzle, and more of a classic fantasy look and feel. According to Brickset, this is the first exclusive minifigure under the Nexo Knights theme to be released for this year, with a second one slated to be released in a polybag (5004390) anytime between July to September in LEGO brand stores.

DK’s LEGO Nexo Knights: The Book of Knights, together with its exclusive Merlok the Magician minifigure, is now listed on Amazon for $15.75 and is scheduled to be released on August 30. But before we get our hands over this DK exclusive, we’ll be getting another book that serves as an early complimentary for the DK release. Published by Ameet Studio, the LEGO Nexo Knights: The Book of Monsters features the entire range of monsters and villains of Knighton. Now available for pre-order at Amazon, this hardcover collectible is due for release on June 28.
