Here’s Brickshow’s Wrap-Up of the Latest LEGO Offerings at the 2016 New York Toy Fair

Tom and Jason did an excellent coverage of what is hot at the LEGO booth at the New York Toy Fair. Now that the 2016 Toy Fair has come to an end, let’s look back at the highlights of what LEGO has in store for this year. Here’s a round-up of what we gathered in the NYTF.

One of the most anticipated LEGO sets revealed at the NYTF is the UCS Assault on Hoth (75098). Excitement was steadily building up to the day LEGO unveiled its latest Star Wars-based Ultimate Collectors Series. As it turned out, there were some mixed reactions about this ranging from sheer joy to downright skepticism on what LEGO is offering with its newest UCS. This informative diagram is circulating a lot within Lego Reddit circles. Though we don’t know exactly to whom the credit belongs for this photo, we’re sure that s/he has a very interesting take on what LEGO came up with in its Assault on Hoth UCS. Just send us some leads if you happen to know the source of this.

With that being said, let’s take a look at what LEGO has revealed so far during the 2016 NYTF. Tom Baker did an excellent overview of these new LEGO sets, with Jason and Stephen covering the heat of the action in NY.

LEGO MAZE (21305) WILL BE RELEASED THIS APRIL

LEGO Maze tn_omlYquW_jpg

LEGO Maze is on its way! The upcoming Ideas based approved project was hinted by the brick giant on its Facebook page announcing its release sometime on April. Coded as 21305 LEGO Maze, this cool contraption is the brainchild of Jason (who goes by the name JK Brickworks via Flickr) and comes in 769 pieces.

Its official entry as a LEGO based Idea proposal was originally named as “Labyrinth Marble Maze”. It’s an interactive maze build where the object of the game is to simply ensure that the ball goes from point A to point B. Of course, it may sound simple as it may look. With mazes that are highly customizable and interchangeable, players have unlimited options on how they want their labyrinths to be challenging. According to Jason, “Having an interchangeable maze system means you can customize the maze as you see fit, build additional mazes, and make them as simple or challenging as you want. Check out these pictures of Jason’s customized labyrinths.”

The mechanics of the game is fairly simple. Using a set of LEGO Technic axles and liftarms, players can control the movement of the ball inside the maze. It has a pretty impressive, smooth and accurate control over the movement of the board.

LEGO has not revealed yet on how the LEGO Maze (21305) will actually look and work. For sure they’ll be throwing in some modifications of their won and some probable adjustments in the gameplay. Perhaps they’ll be throwing in some limited edition minifigs. We’ll see. However, what we’re sure of is the fact that the basic gameplay will still be the same. We’ll be updating you soon on the LEGO Maze but for the meantime, check out this video demonstration by Jason on how his Labyrinth works.

New LEGO Mixels 2016 Series 7, 8, and Yes, 9 – Officially Announced!

We’re truly overwhelmed with the positive reviews and comments that we have received recently with our coverage of LEGO’s latest unveilings at the New York City Toy Fair. Jason, Stephen, Tom, and the rest of BrickShow’s team are working round the clock to give our brick fans the latest scoops from the city that never sleeps. From Ninjagos to Star Wars, to LEGO City and Junior Sets, BrickShow TV will continue to provide you with the latest news from the brick company live from the annual toy fair. Kindly bear with us if ever you experience any Error 503 along the way due to the heavy load that our servers are experiencing.

In the meantime, allow me to share this excellent coverage done by FamilyGamerTV on what’s new within the quirky, crazy world of LEGO’s Mixels. In the usual LEGO way of releasing a new series every four months, the brick giant unveiled two more sets during the NY Toy Fair in addition to its officially announced Series 7. See more of it in detail in the following video.

As you can see, LEGO Mixels have gone a long way, from its Pokemon-like themes of Earth, Fire, Lightning, Water/Ice, and Magic type of Mixels. 2016 saw a new direction with the introduction of its ‘occupation ’-based Mixels that were gradually added in Series 6 with the Weldos Tribe. Well, I prefer that LEGO will stick to its original plan of developing ‘elemental-type’ Mixels. It offers more flexibility (and sense) in terms of combining Mixels across tribes. My best guess is that LEGO is keen on developing such wacky combinations to keep up with its unique brand of humor, exemplified in its Cartoon Network animation series.

With that being said, here are the lists of the official Mixels to be offered by LEGO throughout the year. Series 7 is now available in all major stores retailing at $4.99 each. Series 8 is slated to come out sometime in June while Series 9 is in October. Credit goes to the Jedi News Team via Brickset.com for the excellent photos of Series 9 straight from the NYTF.

LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures All Ready To Go At Disney XD

The LEGO Star Wars lore further expands with the introduction of the new LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures!

With the success of ‘The Yoda Chronicles’ and ‘Droid Tales’, LEGO and Lucasfilm entered into a new partnership with their next wave of miniseries that is sure to be more fun-filled and more hilarious than its predecessors. “The fun-filled adventure comedy series, set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi will introduce all-new heroes and villains in exciting adventures with many familiar Star Wars characters,” according to the series official website.

The new LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures is slated to be released this summer exclusively at Disney XD. Check this official announcement from Starwars.com.

The Force is set to meet LEGO bricks in a new galaxy-spanning adventure in LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures!

The Freemaker Adventures

StarWars.com is thrilled to announce LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, an all-new animated television series scheduled to debut this summer on Disney XD in the US. The fun-filled adventure comedy series, set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi will introduce all-new heroes and villains in exciting adventures with many familiar Star Wars characters.

Told in the whimsically charged style that audiences have come to expect from LEGO Star Wars entertainment, the series stars the Freemakers, a family of scavengers who build and sell starships from the scoured debris of space battles strewn throughout the galaxy. When their youngest discovers a natural connection with the Force through an ancient artifact — the Kyber Saber — his world is turned upside down, and he and his family are thrown into an epic struggle against the Empire to restore peace and freedom to the galaxy. Throughout their adventures, the Freemakers explore new worlds, meet new and familiar characters, and learn the true value of what it means to be a family.

The Freemaker Adventures

“We are very excited to launch for the first time a TV series with Disney XD,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president, of licensing & entertainment at the LEGO Group. “The creative team behind The Freemaker Adventures is extremely talented, and the series is a great testament to our longstanding and successful partnership with Lucasfilm and Disney. The show masterfully combines the rich heritage of storytelling, great characters, action, and adventure in a galaxy far, far away with the creativity, imagination, and humor that only LEGO Star Wars can deliver. We are sure fans young and old are going to love the show.”

01 freemaker adventures

“With The Freemaker Adventures we are thrilled to bring all-new stories to life that could only be realized in the LEGO Star Wars universe,” said Carrie Beck, vice president, of animation development at Lucasfilm. “We are embarking on an unprecedented collaboration that will allow us to extend the narrative experience of the Star Wars saga with the same playful spirit that’s always made LEGO Star Wars so much fun to watch. We are so thankful to have such great partners in the LEGO Group, Disney XD, and series developers Bill Motz and Bob Roth.”

LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures is a production of Wil Film, the LEGO Group, and Lucasfilm. Developed for television by Bill Motz and Bob Roth (Penguins of Madagascar), they join Torsten Jacobson (LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales) and Jill Wilfert (The LEGO Movie) as executive producers alongside producers Carrie Beck (Star Wars Rebels), Jason Cosler (LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Avengers Reassembled!), Jake Blais, and John McCormack.
