The Final Wave of LEGO Dimensions Has Arrived!

Now that the hype surrounding the LEGO Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon (75192) has simmered down a bit, and that the Falcon is seemingly taking a break from the spotlight now that it is out of stock from virtually all LEGO stores and at shop.LEGO.com, let’s take a look at another wave of LEGO sets that were quietly released by LEGO during the past week.

If you are following the recent developments about the future of this last bastion of the toys-to-life genre, then the above headline will not come as much as a surprise to you. We’ve reported several months ago that Wave 9 of LEGO Dimensions is likely to be its very last, and that the whole theme is now probably slated to be cancelled. Considering all the telltale signs that appeared during the past months, we have reasons to believe that this is going to be the case.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t mean that LEGO Dimensions Wave 9 is less to be desired now that it is officially available, featuring the iconic characters of Beetlejuice, the Powerpuff Girls, Teen Titans Go! For those who are intending to add Wave 9 to their LEGO Dimensions collection, then you might be glad to hear that all of these characters are not exclusive to any retailer. It means purchasing them is relatively easy. Here’s a glimpse of these latest LD characters in action, followed by their official description and video spotlight.  As an added treat, you can complete the entire Teen Titans team by adding Robin from the LEGO Dimensions The LEGO Batman Movie: Play the Complete Movie (71264), and you can have his Teen Titans Go! version as a playable character on screen. Likewise, you can also scan Cyborg (71210) to gain access to a similar cartoon variant, completing the entire Teen Titans Go! ensemble.

After the Hype, What’s Next for the LEGO Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon 75192?

If you are one of the many LEGO VIP fans who haven’t had their hands yet on the biggest LEGO set ever made, chances are, the odds of getting it now directly from LEGO or any LEGO brand store is as close to zero – perhaps not until October 1, that is. Since its official VIP launch last Thursday, the LEGO Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon (75192), even if we’re not half way yet during its VIP release period, is nowhere to be found. And we’re talking not just about on a particular LEGO store or location, but on a worldwide scale including at shop.LEGO.com.

As Rebelscum and Brick Fanatics reports, LEGO Star Wars fans who don’t have the privilege nor the opportunity to participate in LEGO’s exclusive in-store VIP launches such as those in UK’s LEGO Stores in Leicester Square and Brighton, are now struggling, and understandably frustrated, at the seeming lack of preparation and stocks of the Falcon.

A quick browse over at the Falcon’s product page at shop.LEGO.com reveals some criticisms about its unavailability rather than its undoubtedly cool features. The criticisms and rants that LEGO received seems to be focused on the fact that not all VIP members were able to receive automated notifications about the set’s release. It gave the impression that after all the marketing hype surrounding the biggest LEGO set ever made, TLG was unable to sufficiently deliver, stock-wise. Others were frustrated about the apparent confusion caused by varying time zones, and the lack of details on when and how set 75192 will be released to VIP members. Such shortcomings, for some VIP members, are close to unforgivable.

Now, it makes one wonder if LEGO at this point, can really handle the exceptionally high demand for the Falcon (yeah, I was also one of those skeptics who thought that not so many AFOLs will be that willing to shell out $800 on a single, LEGO set – as it turns out, I’m gravely mistaken), especially when it launches to the general public on October 1.  Some of the most avid LEGO fans may even be forced to rely on aftermarket platforms such as eBay. But giving your hard-earned cash to some unscrupulous brick scalper, who will charge a ridiculously inflated price, is simply unacceptable by my standards. Here are a few samples from eBay – just be sure not to cringe in disdain.

Now that the LEGO Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon (75192) is out of stock, fans are left thinking if the Falcon will also suffer the same fate as that of another insufficiently stocked set, which is the LEGO Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V (21309). In fairness to LEGO, we know that the company is doing everything it can to ensure that the majority of fans will not end up frustrated. They were kind enough to ensure everyone that more sets are on its way.

On Thursday, September 14, the LEGO Group gave its VIP members an opportunity to purchase the LEGO® Star Wars™ Millennium Falcon™. We are thrilled by the positive response to the set, which is the largest we’ve ever released so far. We can assure all our fans around the world, that we are doing everything we can to make more sets available and keep our LEGO builders happy.

By the look of things, it will be wise for LEGO to pay attention to its customers and learn from this week’s VIP release. It will be better, as Rebelscum suggests, if LEGO can provide a sort of Information Page outlining several things that LEGO fans and buyers can expect once the Falcon becomes available to the general public come October 1. LEGO may also opt to be transparent with regards to the amount of sets that will be made available per LEGO store, and reinforcing its shop@home site to ensure that it can handle the massive queries and simultaneous purchases once the highly anticipated Add To Bag button becomes available worldwide.

As a last note, my thoughts outlined in this post are not in any way reflective of the Falcon’s superb and grandiose design, nor do I intend to malign such a magnificent Star Wars UCS set. I have to admit that I myself am green with envy for those who were able to take home this set. But as they say in marketing spheres, the product is only as good as how it is served, and it will be better for LEGO if it will learn from the Falcon’s VIP release before it is launched again in October 1.

Now, we just have to wait…

Tremble at the Might of The LEGO Lord of the Rings Oliphant MOC Set!

If there is one particular scene in the Lord of the Rings trilogy that really send shivers down my spine is that scene in The Return of the King where the noble Army of Rohan was overwhelmed at the sight of several gigantic beasts looming on the horizon (similar to how the Resistance may have probably felt when faced with a line of formidable First Order Heavy Assault Walkers as we saw from The Last Jedi trailer). Perhaps other than the TLOR classic fight scene between the hellish Balrog and Gandalf (which Tyler impressively re-enacted in brick form with his LEGO LOTR Custom Balrog Battle set), the war elephants used in the Battle of Pelennor Fields is one  LOTR scene that I really wish LEGO has included in this theme.

Thankfully, Brickshow’s master builder Tyler knows how much we love Lord of the Rings, and has a good grasp of LOTR lore as well. For his third LOTR-themed MOC, we now present to you, the mighty and proud Oliphant!

Fighting the Oliphant in battle as seen in The Return of the King, proved to be quite a Herculian task for our heroes. The mere sight of the massive war animal is enough to make even the bravest warrior cast doubt if such a creature can be taken down. This overwhelming feeling of sheer size and raw strength was perfectly captured by Tyler in this custom built LEGO Oliphant. Now honestly, we wished LEGO could have made one, but it was a bummer that LEGO didn’t make that call in adding the Oliphant in the TLOR line-up. So for now, let’s see all the nice features that Tyler included in his latest LEGO TLOR wishlist. Check this out.

First off, the LEGO LOTR Oliphant MOC has excellent articulation in all of its four massive legs starting with its knees using Technic joint pieces. Tyler also used sturdy ball joints for the ankles which can flex and be posed in various directions. The hips of the Oliphant are also articulated which allows the legs to be rotated at various angles, allowing the behemoth to be posed in different positions.

The Oliphant’s head is attached to its body using a strong ball joint that also acts as a support to counter the weight of the head. It also allows the head to be moved from left to right, creating a swaying motion as seen in the film. This swaying motion of the Oliphant’s head, coupled with its menacing 2 pairs of tusks, is perhaps the most devastating feature of the Oliphant in the battle field. The trunk and primary tusks are also articulated using a variety of Mixel joints, allowing it a more flexible and fluid motion, while the jaw can also be opened and closed using a hinge.

This LEGO Oliphant also comes with a variety of battle accessories as we see in the film, including a chain connected to its tusks to use in sweeping the battlefield, and the menacing, three-tiered Haradrim tower mounted on its back. The tower also comes equipped with several spear launchers to add an extra punch to the Oliphant’s lethal capabilities.

One of the best parts in this scene is when Legolas single-handedly defeated an Oliphant using a combination of acrobatic moves and top-notch archery skills. This particular scene has been nicely re-enacted by Tyler by adding a simple carrottop piece on the sides of the Oliphant’s legs, allowing Legolas’ minifig counterpart to grab hold of it and maneuver his way up to the tower. As seen from the film, these are actually arrows that got stuck to the beast’s extraordinarily thick skin. It is so embedded in the Oliphant’s skin that the arrow itself can support the weight of Legolas.

Overall, this is such an excellent MOC that LEGO designers may find worth considering. Both AFOLs and KFOLs will certainly appreciate its play features and aesthetic value. Frankly, there is still a lot of potential in the LEGO Lord of the Rings theme that I sincerely wish LEGO will give it a second look and perhaps create more sets than just the 16 builds that they previously came up with. However, if you are impressed as much as I am with this latest LOTR MOC wish set from Tyler (you may also want to check out his LEGO LOTR Custom Balrog and Prancing Pony sets), then you have the option of building one of your own by simply heading over to BuildBetterBricks.com and download this MOC’s building instructions. For a minimal fee, you can have the building instructions in PDF format plus a parts list to see if you have any of the pieces needed to create the Oliphant, and a Stud.io file to export the parts list via Bricklink.

Be sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for more awesome LEGO MOCs, news, reviews and pretty cool, brick-built stuff. Happy building!

Watch Tyler’s Take on the Bat Segway!

Yesterday, LEGO gave us a hint of what could be a part of the next The LEGO Batman Movie sets slated for 2018. Though apparently not a standalone set by itself, the Bat Segway is a pretty nice build that could be a part of any of the five (5) sets rumored to be included in TLBM’s third wave of releases.

So before we (hopefully) see the Justice League in action, Egghead’s food fighting mech and the Condiment King’s team-up with Captain Boomerang, Brickshow’s master builder Tyler gives us his own take on the Bat Segway. The nice part of it, he also shows us how to build one in this latest tutorial. Watch this.

As Tyler mentioned, it’s quite easy and straightforward to make the Bat Segway since the parts are quite common and readily available save for the red wheel hubs or rims, and of course the Lobster-Lovin’ Batman. Though the red wheel hubs are not available, Tyler’s modifications are still spot on. His inclusion of a kickstand is a clever way of making the Bat Segway stand on its own, and adds a nice tilting effect on the build itself.

So what do you think brick fans, will you give this custom Bat Segway a try? Let us know in the comments below.

LEGO Toys R Us Bricktober 2017 Minifigure Sets Official Images Now Up!

Toys R Us Germany has now released the official images of this year’s Bricktober 2017 Minifigures sets. Following the reveal of this year’s minifigure collection from TRU Austria’s promotional poster, their corresponding official images have now been released online. It gives us a better idea of what to expect from these sets which is quite frankly, one of the best that TRU offered so far.

These prized collectibles will be distributed first in Germany this month, and in the US and the rest of the world in October. There’s no official word yet on what particular weeks will these sets be released, and how to have these minifigs in the US once October kicks in, but based on previous TRU Briktober promotionals, we can assume that these minifigure sets will be given away for free with a minimum of qualifying LEGO purchase of $50 and above, exclusively at all TRU stores in the US. On the other hand, they will go on sale in Germany for 14.99€ per set and will also be given for free with a minimum LEGO purchase of 40€ and above.
