We Made It To The Guinness World Records!

The Brick Show Team was in Richmond, Virginia for another fun-filled weekend at Brick Fest Live last Saturday and Sunday and this time, the team was not just there to provide another awesome Brick Show Experience. Together with a crowd of cheering fans and supporters, we’ve set to embark on a new Guinness World Record where one of our team members eventually bagged a title! Read on to know the details.

Hosted by Guinness World Records Live’s coach Paul Wiggins and adjudicated by official Guinness World Records judge, Kaitlin Holl, the attempt was streamed live via Guinness’ Facebook page. The official world record attempt is composed of three separate categories: fastest time to build a LEGO pyramid, a large LEGO brick stack, and three minifigures.

First off were Jason and Stephen as they attempted to set a new world record as having the fastest time in building a six level LEGO pyramid using 21 bricks. The rule is straightforward: they must be able to build a symmetrical pyramid by placing 2×4 LEGO bricks on a standard base plate and they must do so by alternately placing one brick at a time. Eventually they finished with an official recorded time of 20.12 seconds.

guinness-02 guinness-03

Next is Matt as he attempts to set the fastest time in stacking up 20 large LEGO bricks. The rules were laid down by Guinness World Record judge Kaitlin: using only one hand at a time in placing a brick one over the other, Matt must be able to completely connect all 20 large LEGO bricks and ensure that the structure remain standing for at least 5 seconds. He finished with an official recorded time of 23.06 seconds.

guinness-04 guinness-05

Lastly, we have Evans and his challenge of assembling three LEGO minifigures and firmly placing them on a standard LEGO baseplate. Evans is usually working behind the scenes and the one responsible for Brick Show’s retail operations. Again, Judge Kaitlin laid down the rules as follows: each of the three minifigs must have the usual five components: legs, body, head, head piece, and accessory. Once completed, Evans must ensure that the minifigs are firmly in place on the baseplate as Judge Kaitlin turns it upside down.

guinness-06 guinness-08

After a relatively quick round of attempts, Judge Kaitlin finally announced the results. Jason and Stephen managed to finish their LEGO pyramid in 20.12 seconds, but came short of almost 6 seconds against the official Guinness World Record time of 14.72 seconds. Matt likewise finished in 23.06 seconds in building his stack of LEGO bricks, but Judge Kaitlin had to disqualify his attempt since Matt touched the structure using both of his hands. Finally, we have Evans and his attempt to set a new world record in being the fastest person to assemble three LEGO minifigures. With an ending time of 18.44 seconds, Evans managed to beat the current official record of 28.16 seconds, making him the fastest person on the planet that can assemble LEGO minifigures!

guinness-07

It is not every day that you get to bag a Guinness World Record title, and this is certainly another first for our Brick Show Team. In case you missed it, you can watch the entire video of the world record attempt right there below, or over at Guinness World Record’s Facebook page. Again, cheers to Evans and the rest of the team!

The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster And Lovelace & Babbage’s First Computer Rises As The Next LEGO Ideas Projects To Achieve 10K Support.

As BZ Power succinctly points out, at the rate projects are getting the 10k thumbs up votes over at LEGO Ideas, the community based LEGO site may likewise amend its voting guidelines to increase the number of. As we mentioned during our report on the LEGO Ideas Star Wars X34 Landspeeder, not too far behind the deadline of this year’s Second LEGO Review Stage (which will commence this September) are two projects who are vying to reach the coveted 10K mark. Now that they have reached the finish line of the voting stage, the LEGO Ideas Lamborghini Veneno Roadster and Lovelace and Babbage are the 10th and 11th projects to be ushered into the winning circle of fan-supported proposals respectively.

The LEGO Ideas Lamborghini Veneno Roadster by Jordan-based AFOL, Firas Abu-Jaber (Firas_supercar) is based on the exclusive, multi-million dollars racing prototype of Automobil Lamborghini released in 2014 to commemorate the Lambo’s 50th anniversary. There were only nine known units ever made during this time, which makes it one of the rarest and costliest vehicle around. With the recent inclusion of the Caterham Super Seven as a LEGO Ideas Approved Project, the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster may hopefully be the second automobile set that will hit store shelves in 2017. Here’s how Firas describes his proposed set.

As a further highlight of its 50th anniversary year, Automobili Lamborghini is presenting one of the most exceptional super sports cars of all time. The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster is an open racing prototype with an extreme design and breathtaking performance. And it is one of the world’s most exclusive automobiles – not more than nine units have been built during the course of 2014 and sold at a price of 3.3 million Euros…

Ever since I saw this great car back in 2014, I wanted to build my own LEGO® version,  but when I first saw it, I thought it was nearly impossible to replicate into LEGO® form, but I’m glad I could prove myself wrong,  and learned a good lesson: never say never,  nothing is impossible with LEGO®!

The LEGO Ideas Review Team has this to say for Firas’ recent accomplishment.

Dear Firas_supercar,

You’ve zoomed across the finish line way ahead of time in this raging bull of a supercar! Congrats for hitting this milestone with the support of so many automotive enthusiasts! The Veneno is a notoriously angular car but you’ve done very well to pull of the overall design of this red rocket! The roadster edition is also the perfect super car for the heat of the summer.

You can take your foot off the throttle now, as we officially advance this project to the Review phase.

Finally, we have another 10K project finalist with the LEGO Ideas Lovelace and Babbage set by Stewart Cromar from the UK. Similar to the Women of NASA that celebrates the invaluable contribution to science by some of NASA’s women scientists and maverick explorers, the Lovelace and Babbage project commemorates the lives of two individuals who are chiefly responsible for the computers that we are using today. True, their Analytical Engine (1837) may not be as powerful even to the smallest byte as compared to our modern day PCs, but their invention paved the way for the first algorithm to be used and carried out by a machine and the conceptual foundation of our computers.

Here’s Cromar’s description of his LEGO Ideas Lovelace and Babbage.

Unique Design

  • The monochromatic brick palette helps to evoke a Victorian atmosphere and the engine itself is decorated with cogs, chains and pistons for a steampunk aesthetic.
  • There is also capacity for the model to house a mini-computer  such as the Raspberry Pi single-board computer (optional and not included).
  • Just in case the Lovelace and Babbage minifigures  get a little tired from all their hard work, there is an afternoon tea party for them to enjoy (Victoria sponge included).
  • Help Ada Junior with her maths homework in the miniature classroom, but just make sure the creepy bat doesn’t steal her beloved teddy bear.
  • Using LEGO we can finally complete their marvelous vision for the Analytical Engine and build the world’s first mechanical general-purpose computer!

Bonus Sets

  • ‘Ada Junior Classroom’ (wooden desk, inkwell, blackboard, duster, clock, creepy bat, parquet flooring, Ada Junior minifigure, rucksack and teddy bear).
  • ‘Babbage Tea Party’ (Victoria sponge, cake stand, tea cups, saucers, candlestick, table and chairs).

I have to say that the Second LEGO Ideas Review Stage will be a bit crowded, given that we now have a total of 11 hopefuls vying for the approval of The LEGO Ideas Review Team to be an official set destined to hit shelves in 2017. Not too far behind is SeigneurFett’s Plum Creek – The Little House on the Prairie. As of this writing, it already garnered a total of 9,815 supporters and is now very close in capping off the winners’ circle to qualify for this year’s 2nd Review Stage.

The LEGO Ideas Lamborghini Veneno Roadster and Lovelace and Babbage will be joined by the Star Wars UCS X34 Landspeeder, the Women of NASAVoltron – Defender of the UniverseSpaceballs – Eagle 5The Addams Family Mansion, the Merchant’s House, the Large Hadron ColliderLEGO Observatory – Mountain View, and Modular Construction Site. The LEGO Ideas Second Review will commence starting early in September this year.

WATCH: Skateboard Made Of Actual LEGO Get Tested And Destroyed.

Aaron Kyro of Braille Skateboarding has a knack for trying skateboards of any kinds. Whether it is made of ice, a Nerf gun, or even glass (which is extremely dangerous by the way), as long as it has four wheels underneath, Aaron will not hesitate to ride it. Aaron even encourages his viewer and subscribers to actually send him their own crazy, customized skateboards for him to try out.

Recently, AFOL fan and YouTuber Timmy Joe created his very own skateboard using materials that you may not want to step on to with your bare feet. Behold the life-sized, functional LEGO Skateboard!

lego skateboard

Using his own LEGO pieces that date back to his childhood days, Timmy tested several prototypes to see if his idea can actually support an adult person without breaking apart. After several tries, and more than 20 hours of building and customizing, the LEGO Skateboard is finally ready to be tested by Aaron over at Braille Skateboarding. Take a look at how Timmy built this one-of-a-kind creation through his time lapse video below.

As you may have noticed, Timmy seems to be very excited about his MOC being tested and featured over at Braille Skateboarding. A word of caution though: if you can’t bear the sight of hours of work destroyed for its entertainment value, then you may want to skip the last part of this video.

As tough as it may seem to look at, the LEGO Skateboard did not stand a chance at Aaron’s gruelling test. Perhaps the only thing left for us to see is to have him ride the skateboard using his bare feet – if Aaron and the rest of his guys can figure out how to put it back together.

So what do you think about the LEGO Skateboard? Are you willing to build one and try it? Share us what you think through the comments section below.

New LEGO Ninjago Short Set To Hit Theaters Alongside Warner Bros’ ‘Storks’.

Warner Animation Group’s next big screen offering, Storks, is slated to hit theaters next month, and it seems that the 3D computer animated film is not the only star of the show. The Hollywood Reporter recently revealed that Warner Bros will also give audiences a glimpse of what to expect on its much anticipated LEGO Ninjago Movie ahead of its showing in 2017. Featuring a new animated short entitled The Master: A LEGO Ninjago Short, we’ll see Master Wu square off with an unlikely nemesis, simply called the ‘Chicken’. THR further reports that legendary Jackie Chan will debut as Master Wu in the said short, with Abbi Jacobson starring as the Chicken with Justin Theroux narrating. Theroux is also slated to voice Garmandon in the main LEGO Ninajago Movie.

The_Lego_Ninjago_Movie

Here’s the rest of THR’s report:

From Warner Bros. Pictures and WAG, in association with Lego System A/S, the five-minute short was directed by Jon Saunders, from a screenplay by Saunders and Ross Evans and story by Saunders, Evans, Carey Yost and Remington D. Donovan. Ryan Halprin produced.

The short announcement follows news that Chan, Jacobson and Theroux have all joined the voice cast for The Lego Ninjago Movie, which will also feature Chan voicing Wu and Jacobson voicing a ninja. Theroux will play Garmadon in The Lego Ninjago Movie, which has a Sept. 22, 2017, release date.

Following the success of 2014’s The Lego Movie, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (who are executive producers of Storks, The Master and The Lego Ninjago Movie), WAG also intends to release spinoff feature The Lego Batman Movie, also planned for a 2017 release, as well as a Lego Movie sequel, slated for 2019.

Building on the success of The LEGO Movie and the high anticipation of fans for the upcoming LEGO Batman Movie, Warner Bros is also banking on one of LEGO’s original theme once it hits theaters on September 22, 2017. The LEGO Group also seems to be confident on how movie-going fans in general will receive the LEGO Ninjago Movie by adding several rumored sets and a line of collectible minifigures under its banner. Here’s a brief synopsis of the movie as we previously reported.

lego-ninjago-movie-voice-cast

Ninjago is the story of six young ninja tasked with defending their island home, called Ninjago. By night, they’re gifted warriors, using their skill and awesome fleet of vehicles to fight villains and monsters. By day, they’re ordinary teens, struggling against their greatest enemy: high school.

The LEGO Batman Movie opens in U.S. theaters on February 10th, 2017, followed by The LEGO Ninjago Movie on September 22nd, 2017, The LEGO Movie Sequel on February 8th, 2019 and Billion Brick Race on May 24th, 2019.

Whistle Along With Mickey With This LEGO Ideas Disney Classic Steamboat Willie.

‘A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step’. I can just imagine in my head how much Walt Disney would have nodded his head in agreement with this piece of oriental wisdom. In the case of LEGO builder szabomate90, the journey may well begin aboard a steamboat – the LEGO Ideas Disney Steamboat Willie, that is. We’ve featured several LEGO Ideas project, and Disney-themed MOCs here on our site, and this brick-built Steamboat Willie stands out not just because of the historic animation in which it represents, but also the build’s impressive monochromatic color scheme. Here’s how szabomate90 describes his LEGO Ideas Steamboat Willie.

Steamboat Willie is the first fully synchronized sound cartoon directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. It was the debut of Mickey Mouse in a cartoon the first to be distributed and the third to be produced. So as an animator and a Lego fan I’d like to pay my respect to that marvelous production, which since was created then inspired a lot of talented artists.

Because Disney Minifigures arrived, I have the luck to create a Mickey Mouse related set with him as well. In addition, I repaint the figure to match the original 1928’s appearance. The model designed to be tiny, easy to build and playable. You can put Mickey Mouse inside the boat also you can play with the cranes. The set includes 156 bricks.

The customized black and white Mickey Mouse minifigure is absolutely gorgeous and accurate, giving the set a true vintage feel. It’s a fitting tribute to one of the pillars of Walt Disney Animations, especially that the landmark animated film will be celebrating its 90th year two years from now. It’s a perfect commemorative LEGO set that also celebrates the longstanding partnership between Disney and LEGO. This LEGO Recreation Of A Vintage Pluto Pull-Along Toy Is A Fitting Tribute To The Partnership That Started It All.

When you think about the on-going partnership between LEGO and Disney and how it all started, it might be reasonable to consider that it all began with the House of Mouse Ambassador himself, Mickey Mouse. However, a quick search about the history of the LEGO Group reveals otherwise. Starting as a humble, toy workshop situated in idyllic Billund, Denmark, Ole Kirk Christiansen put his exceptional carpentry skills into use when his toyshop began offering wooden toys to children in 1932.

During the 1940s, LEGO entered into a partnership with the Walt Disney Company to create its very first licensed wooden, pull-along replica of Pluto. It was an instant hit among children at that time. Check out the vintage promotional poster that goes along with it.

In honor of Disney’s most famous bloodhound that started a wonderful partnership between the two powerhouses, and in celebration of Disney and LEGO’s timeless partnership, Brick Journal Editor-in-Chief and Master Builder Joe Meno came up with his own version of this very rare toy collectible using the things that he is very much happy to work with: the LEGO brick.

Using LEGO graph paper for his initial draft and sketches, Meno’s brick-built recreation of this antique toy is absolutely brilliant. From Pluto’s collar and even to the LEGO label printed on his side, Meno’s LEGO Pluto MOC is truly spot on. The best thing about it is that it’s a pull-along toy as well! Watch the video below to see more of its play features. Wish LEGO can come up with this one for our younger generation to enjoy.
