LEGO MAZE (21305) WILL BE RELEASED THIS APRIL

LEGO Maze tn_omlYquW_jpg

LEGO Maze is on its way! The upcoming Ideas based approved project was hinted by the brick giant on its Facebook page announcing its release sometime on April. Coded as 21305 LEGO Maze, this cool contraption is the brainchild of Jason (who goes by the name JK Brickworks via Flickr) and comes in 769 pieces.

Its official entry as a LEGO based Idea proposal was originally named as “Labyrinth Marble Maze”. It’s an interactive maze build where the object of the game is to simply ensure that the ball goes from point A to point B. Of course, it may sound simple as it may look. With mazes that are highly customizable and interchangeable, players have unlimited options on how they want their labyrinths to be challenging. According to Jason, “Having an interchangeable maze system means you can customize the maze as you see fit, build additional mazes, and make them as simple or challenging as you want. Check out these pictures of Jason’s customized labyrinths.”

The mechanics of the game is fairly simple. Using a set of LEGO Technic axles and liftarms, players can control the movement of the ball inside the maze. It has a pretty impressive, smooth and accurate control over the movement of the board.

LEGO has not revealed yet on how the LEGO Maze (21305) will actually look and work. For sure they’ll be throwing in some modifications of their won and some probable adjustments in the gameplay. Perhaps they’ll be throwing in some limited edition minifigs. We’ll see. However, what we’re sure of is the fact that the basic gameplay will still be the same. We’ll be updating you soon on the LEGO Maze but for the meantime, check out this video demonstration by Jason on how his Labyrinth works.

For the meantime, allow me to share this excellent coverage done by FamilyGamerTV on what’s new within the quirky, crazy world of LEGO’s Mixels. In the usual LEGO way of releasing a new series every four months, the brick giant unveiled two more sets during the NY Toy Fair in addition to its officially announced Series 7. See more of it in detail in the following video.

FamilyGamerTV

As you can see, LEGO Mixels have gone a long way, from its Pokemon-like themes of Earth, Fire, Lightning, Water/Ice, and Magic type of Mixels. 2016 saw a new direction with the introduction of its ‘occupation’-based Mixels that were gradually added in Series 6 with the Weldos Tribe. Well personally, I prefer that LEGO will stick to its original plan of developing ‘elemental-type’ Mixels. It offers more flexibility (and sense) in terms of combining Mixels across tribes. My best guess is that LEGO is keen in developing such wacky combinations to keep up with its unique brand of humor, exemplified in its Cartoon Network animation series.

With that being said, here are the lists of the official Mixels to be offered by LEGO throughout the year. Series 7 is now available in all major stores retailing at $4.99 each. Series 8 is slated to come out sometime in June while Series 9 in October. Credit goes to the Jedi News Team via Brickset.com for the excellent photos of Series 9 straight from the NYTF.

The Freemaker Adventures

“The Force is set to meet LEGO bricks in a new galaxy-spanning adventure.

StarWars.com is thrilled to announce LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, an all-new animated television series scheduled to debut this summer on Disney XD in the US. The fun-filled adventure comedy series, set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, will introduce all-new heroes and villains in exciting adventures with many familiar Star Wars characters.

Told in the whimsically-charged style that audiences have come to expect from LEGO Star Wars entertainment, the series stars the Freemakers, a family of scavengers who build and sell starships from the scoured debris of space battles strewn throughout the galaxy. When their youngest discovers a natural connection with the Force through an ancient artifact — the Kyber Saber — his world is turned upside down, and he and his family are thrown into an epic struggle against the Empire to restore peace and freedom to the galaxy. Throughout their adventures, the Freemakers explore new worlds, meet new and familiar characters, and learn the true value of what it means to be a family.

The show masterfully combines the rich heritage of storytelling, great characters, action, and adventure in a galaxy far, far away with the creativity, imagination, and humor that only LEGO Star Wars can deliver. We are sure fans young and old are going to love the show.”

“With The Freemaker Adventures we are thrilled to bring all-new stories to life that could only be realized in the LEGO Star Wars universe,” said Carrie Beck, vice president, animation development at Lucasfilm. “We are embarking on an unprecedented collaboration that will allow us to extend the narrative experience of the Star Wars saga with the same playful spirit that’s always made LEGO Star Wars so much fun to watch. We are so thankful to have such great partners in the LEGO Group, Disney XD, and series developers Bill Motz and Bob Roth.”

LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures is a production of Wil Film, the LEGO Group, and Lucasfilm. Developed for television by Bill Motz and Bob Roth (Penguins of Madagascar), they join Torsten Jacobson (LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales) and Jill Wilfert (The LEGO Movie) as executive producers alongside producers Carrie Beck (Star Wars Rebels), Jason Cosler (LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Avengers Reassembled!), Jake Blais, and John McCormack.

This Custom LEGO KFC Chicken Vending Machine Will Leave You Wanting For More

The LEGO KFC Chicken Vending Machine by Astonishing Studios

When you thought you’ve seen it all, Astonishing Studios, the guys responsible for the crazy and wacky LEGO McNugget and Cherrios vending machines, came up with another contraption that will surely leave you finger-lickin’ and craving for more. Yes, it’s no mistake and as you might have known already, their LEGO builds are not just for show. Combining creative design concepts and top-notch programming, serving and having your share of your favorite Colonel Sanders chicken is both tasty and entertaining.

As working models that actually dispense goods for the price of a dime or any other coin in particular, the cute and visually appealing outside façade hides a rather complex series of robotic mechanisms build around the LEGO Mindstorms NXT system. Needless to say, the entire vending machine is 100% all LEGO.

We hope to see more of Astonishing Studios’ LEGO vending machine concepts in the future, especially that their brand is getting more and more attention. In addition to their KFC, McNuggets, and Doritos vending machine, there’s also a Colgate toothpaste dispenser and a Hershey’s chocolate milk mixer. They even have a toothpaste dispenser specifically designed for the Foreo Issa tootbrush, which also houses a special compartment for the brush itself.

As it turns out, these companies are now actually paying to get these machines up and running because they are what they are – crazy, funny, and absolutely cool LEGO builds. We know for sure that our hopes will not be disappointed, that other brand names are now cooking up some deals with the enigmatic YouTuber. Whoever is behind Astonishing Studios, we’re pretty sure that they are on their way in becoming one of the best company to work for in the near future.

For now, let’s have a feast with their video of the KFC Vending Machine. Pass the gravy please…

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens Video Game Promises Unique Side Missions and a Collectible Minifig

LEGO-Star-Wars-Force-Awakens-Deluxe-Edition-Video-Game-with-Stormtrooper-Finn-Minifigure

We mentioned in one of our post last week that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” now has an official LEGO console game which will be launched via Microsoft’s Xbox One. Knowing that previous LEGO Star Wars video games can be pretty straightforward, that is, it tends to be solely dependent on the original movies’ plot and storyline, TT Games promises to have a different take on the latest movie from the galaxy far, far away. This time, they’re throwing in some side missions – six of them to be exact- that explores some of the character’s back stories all leading to the events that transpired in The Force Awakens. These are six optional missions that pop ups after completing story missions based on the film or once a certain amount of gold bricks has been collected by players.

One of these missions tells how C-3PO got this red arm replacement. This is not revealed and explored yet, except in a comic series but were hopeful that the genius writers from Lucasfilm will come up with something that could be way cooler than the plot in print.

Another mission that Game Informer hinted on involved certain dangerous creatures known as the Rathars which were captured aboard Han Solo and Chewbacca’s new freighter, the Eravana. The Rathars are ravenous creatures rumored to be responsible for the Trillia Massacre. The game will explore how these Rathars were captured and ended eventually into the hands of our timeless galactic duo.

If the side missions are not enough to get you excited and placing your pre-order, LEGO sweetens the deal by offering a Deluxe Edition that includes a rare and exclusive 30605 Finn (FN-2187) minifigure polybag bundled with the Season Pass for the game. Available both for PS4 and Xbox One, ‘LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ will be available on June 28 this year.

This LEGO Paper Airplane Folding Machine Can Actually Make One – And Launch It

We’ve seen a lot of cool stuff lately on the different ways on how LEGO bricks can be used to make things easier: from dispensing tasty, chicken legs and nuggets, to dispensing toothpaste on a brush. These LEGO contraptions were meant to make things easier for us human beings in a funny, unusual way. So when someone thought, “Hey, let’s build a LEGO paper airplane folding machine,” it’s kind of hard putting it in the right context. Not at least if you’ll going to build as a tribute for a major electronics think-tank firm, and the one who’s doing it is a name that will appear on your screen when you Google, “World’s Best LEGO Robotics Designer.”

Truth be told, building a paper plane factory around the LEGO Mindstorm project is not exactly a novel idea. The idea was spawned already by a YouTuber that goes by the name ‘Hknssn’. Using more than 7,000 LEGO Technic and Mindstorm parts, she (he) showed that building the LEGO paper airplane folding machine, and being able to launch its product at the same time, is indeed complex rocket science. That was almost four years ago and as they say, technology eventually caught up.

In a similar vein, Arrow Electronics launched its campaign ‘Five Years Out’ with the expressed goal of encouraging innovation among young minds. What better way to do it than with the help of the creative minds behind promotions and marketing firm, Elevation Digital Media and the brilliant engineering and design skills of Arthur Sacek – and yes, it was his name that came up when Jon Stevenson, Director of Production for Elevation Media, Googled the flashy title.

Gizmodo has a pretty neat round-up of Sacek’s work including a Lego Pinblock animator, a copy machine, and a 360 degrees Milling Machine but none have been as wonderfully complicated as the LEGO paper airplane folding machine that can turn a single piece of paper into a flying contraption, and even launches it the end of the assembly line. The mission-inspired video excellently pictured Sacek’s machine, and the spirit of innovation behind Arrow’s work. You could almost feel that you’re part of something greater than yourself, as you listen to JFK’s ‘Why We Choose To Go To The Moon’ speech… OK, let’s put a break on the nostalgia, shall we.

Using multiple LEGO Mindstorms intelligent bricks, and quite a bit of custom code, Sacek’s design looks far more streamlined and reliable than the one we previously mentioned, both in aesthetics and final output of the paper-folded plane.

Arrow Electronics shared some of the behind the scenes action in the making of this LEGO masterpiece, showing how some parts of the paper airplane folding machine were designed and assembled. However, as it seems, Arrow and Sacek is a little keen in guarding and revealing their ‘trade secrets’, so it’s wise not to expect any instructions or building guides.  Perhaps we’ll have a better chance with Hknssn – if we can get in touch with her (him?).

This Custom LEGO Finding Dory Build Is A Promising One

Thirteen years ago, Disney and Pixar introduced to us what could be the most famous of all sea creatures ever rendered in CGI. ‘Finding Nemo’ was hailed not just for good, family values that it offered but more so on the technical feats that Pixar accomplished during its time. Set in the colorful underwater world of corals, squids, turtles, and sharks (remember the oath: ‘fish are friends, not food.’), Finding Nemo has set a milestone in the computer-aided animation. This year, a long-overdue sequel is now slated to hit the big screen and this time, the one missing might prove to be a little bit difficult to find. ‘Finding Dory‘ is Pixar Animation Studios latest 3D computer-animated comedy-adventure released by Walter Disney Pictures. Following the timeline of the original 2003 hit movie ‘Finding Nemo’, Dory, the forgetful but ever-reliable Blue Tang fish, suddenly recovers her childhood memories. With the help of her friends, Nemo and Marlin, they set off to find the ‘Jewel of Monterey’ with the hopes of reuniting Dory with her family. And what better way to celebrate the release of this recent underwater adventure through a custom LEGO Finding Dory build over at LEGO Ideas.

To help out in the search, LEGO Ideas contributors BuildFiend and Nunki-psi, came up with their replica of our colorful threesome sea friends. With 228 supporters and a lead time of 263 days, the duo hopes to garner the 10,000 nods of approval from other LEGO supporters in order for their creation to be noticed and hopefully produced by LEGO. Their original creation includes:

  • Nemo with a stand on a coral reef vignette (and a little shrimp!)
  • Marlin with a stand on a coral reef vignette (and a transparent jellyfish!)
  • Dory with a stand on a coral reef vignette (and Squishy!)

Custom LEGO Finding Dory

All builds are playable with each having a nice display piece. All of the characters’ fins (yes, even Nemo’s ‘lucky fin’) and eyes are moveable and poseable, including Marlin’s mouth. With a total brick count of 611 pieces, their proposed Finding Dory build is a pretty great compliment for the upcoming movie. Check out the rest their photos below.
