DK Officially Reveals Its LEGO John Stewart Green Lantern Minifigure Exclusive.

Last April, we reported on a DC Comics Super Heroes minifigure exclusive that will be offered together with Dorling Kindersley’s Build Your Own Adventure Book Series. This time, we have a closer look at this exclusive thanks to Amazon UK. DK’s latest LEGO book offering comes with the very first, LEGO John Stewart Green Lantern minifigure. It is expected that this rare minifigure will be eyed upon by most collectors since this is the only second iteration of the Green Lantern, the first being Hal Jordan as seen in the LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Green Lantern vs. Sinestro (76025) set.

Check out these clearer images of the LEGO John Stewart Green Lantern minifigure, together with some preview pages from the book.

This DK exclusive Green Lantern minifigure sports a different torso as compared to Hal Jordan’s version on 76025. Furthermore, unlike the latter, the exclusive minifig features a pair of glowing, green eyes and a slightly varied black and green leg print. It also comes with instructions in building Stewart’s spaceship, a sledge hammer construct, laser jammer, bank vault, and Flash’s Buggy. Here’s a preview of what you can find inside DK’s latest offering.

If you don’t want to miss out on the chance of having this minifigure, be sure to take advantage of placing a pre-order to guarantee your copy before the book is released to the general public on August 1, 2017. It will retail at USD$16.50.

LEGO Collectible Minifigure Series 17 Box Distribution and Checklist.

It seems that LEGO’s latest CMF series gained some traction when the official character names and images of Series 17 were released yesterday. This time around, Brickset managed to have their copy of this latest CMF series ahead of its May 1 release. They were kind enough to share how the minifigs are distributed in the box, together with the series’ corresponding checklist. Take a look.

5 in the box:

  • {Mystery figure}
  • Corn Cob Guy
  • Circus Strong Man

4 in the box:

  • Roman Gladiator
  • Connoisseur
  • Retro Spaceman
  • Yuppie
  • Hot Dog Man
  • Battle Dwarf

3 in the box:

  • Professional Surfer
  • Gourmet Chef
  • Veterinarian
  • Butterfly Girl
  • Rocket Boy
  • Dance Instructor
  • Elf Girl

Though Huw of Brickset made it clear that he is still not permitted to show the details of Series 17’s Mystery Figure which is rumored to be the French Highway Man, it is interesting to note that he confirmed that there are 5 of this mysterious character in the box. This suggests that the distribution of this Mystery Figure is far different from how Mr. Gold was given out in LEGO CMF Series 10 (71001). The secrecy behind this rumored French Highway Man only leads to further questions on the real story behind this mysterious minifig character. For sure LEGO has good reasons for keeping this a secret until now, and they’re doing a pretty good job of doing so.

So what do you think brick fans? What is the real deal behind this mystery figure? What does LEGO have under its sleeve, ready to surprise us? Share your comments below or visit our Facebook page to join the discussions.

LEGO Collectible Minifigure Series 17 (71018) Official Images Revealed!

We first saw them during this year’s New York Toy Fair, and we speculated on their possible names, and this time around, we now have several official images of LEGO’s Collectible Minifigures Series 17 (71018). Robert8 from Eurobricks has also revealed the official names of the characters from this newest line collectible minifigs. Read on for the rest of the details.

There are new, fun, mixed LEGO® Minifigures Series 17! Meet the characters Sausage Man, Elf Girl, Butterflies Girl, Circus Strong Man, Veterinarian, Battle Dwarf, Dance Instructor, Gourmet Chef, Connoisseur, Corn Cob Man, Roman Gladiator, Rocket Boy, Professional Surfer, Retro Spaceman, Yuppie and a Secret Character! Each fine minifigure comes with one or more pieces of accessories, a display plate and collector brochure. Which figure is a wonder in your next sealed bag?

  • Each minifigure comes with one or more pieces of accessories and display plate and collector brochure.
  • Collect all the figures in the new and exciting range of LEGO® Minifigures, and make your own fun adventures.
  • Combine it with existing LEGO® sets, and have hours of building fun.
  • Swap minifigures with friends and complete your collection.
  • NOTE: Each bag contains one of the 16 characters in the series. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate requests for specific minifigures. If you buy more than one bag, you risk getting more of the same minifigures. When buying a whole box, there is a minimum of one of each figure.
Top row, L-R: Professional Surfer, Gourmet Chef, Sausage Man, Elf Girl, Circus Strong Man, Yuppie, Veterinarian, Secret Character. Bottom row, L-R: Connoisseur, Butterflies Girl, Roman Gladiator, Corn Cob Man, Retro Spaceman, Dance Instructor, Battle Dwarf, Rocket Boy.

LEGO is still mum on its final minifigure which is rumored to be a French Highway Man based on its silhouette. LEGO has been teasing about the Highway since Day 1 when Series 17 was first revealed at NYTF. This lead others to speculate on a possible promotional stunt that LEGO has in the works akin perhaps to Mr. Gold from LEGO CMF Series 10 (71001) back in 2013. If this is the case, then we can expect a lot of hype from this series anytime soon – it’s just a matter of time.

LEGO CMF Series 17 is expected to be released on May 1 in all LEGO Brand Stores and at Stay tuned here at the Brick Show for more CMF updates.

Will LEGO CMF Series 18 Feature a Costume Party Theme?

We first saw them last month at the New York Toy Fair, and since we’re roughly less than 2 months away from their release in May, excitement is in high gear for LEGO’s 17th series of Collectible Minifigures.  Series 17 is filled with many characters that I’ve already ticked off in my must-have list, with Rocket Boy and Corn Cob Guy topping my list. Check out the rest of the Series 17 minifigures right here.

If you’re already hyped about LEGO’s CMF Series 17, then this might interest you as well. There has been some hints (aka rumors) now circulating over at Eurobricks on how special Series 18 will be. As it seems, though we don’t have our hands wrapped around yet on our favorite Series 17 minifigures, it looks like some pretty well informed folks are now in the know on what the 18th CMF series will be.

In line with the 40th anniversary of LEGO’s minifigures – they were introduced way back in 1978 when the first little plastic guys made their way as part of LEGO’s Town, Space, and Castle sets – the designers behind the CMF series seems to have a costume party theme in mind. This is not the first time that a themed series was introduced as part of the CMF. Series 14 (71010) aka the Monster Series released in September of 2015 featured an impressive line of minifigs and new elements.

According to sources, Series 18 will feature minifig characters donned in costumes as they celebrate their landmark anniversary. Imagine Banana Guy, Chicken Suit Guy, Hot Dog Man, and Orca partying around and you’ll get the picture. Perhaps akin to this one.

It was also mentioned in the forum that these costumed minifigs will be unique in itself, and will not be a sort of a rehash from previous sets or collectibles. There were worries at first that Series 18 might be like an overkill, saturating fans with too much costumed minifigures. The appeal of the costumed minifigure in any CMF series lies in the fact of its exclusivity and rarity, and having an entire set of minifigures donning costumes might just overdo it. I guess it will largely depend on how fun and creative LEGO designers will be.

So what do you think brick fans? What particular costume do you wish to see in Series 18? Do you like the idea of a costume party theme for the next LEGO CMF series? Stay tuned for more updates here at the Brick Show!

Thanks to The Brick Fan for the heads up.

OYO Sports Launches DNA Challenge and Collectors’ Corner.

If you’re no stranger to collectible minifigures, then it’s most likely that you have come across the name OYO Sports. I am not a fan of the brand itself, but since OYO Sports has proven its mettle among various collector circles, especially within a market that LEGO has yet to dominate, then it’s worthwhile to feature them here.

Undoubtedly, what makes the OYO brand so appealing to collectors is its exclusive tie ups and licenses with major sports leagues. With exclusive contracts with the NFL, MLB, NHL, and the NBA, OYO sports offer an exhaustive line up of collectible minifigs based on your most faved sports superstar. It is not to say that LEGO did not delve into the sports-themed, minifig collection arena. If you recall back in 2003, LEGO launched its NBA Collectors Series featuring some of the biggest names in NBA basketball during the time. Additionally, LEGO also introduced another sports-themed CMF series with the now retired DFB Die Mannschaft CMF (71014). However, if you’re a brick-loving, sports fan and you wish to see your favorite sports team in their minifig versions, then OYO Sports have you covered.

What also makes the OYO Sports minifig collection also appealing is the uniqueness of each minifigure. Each collectible minifigure (except those from OYO’s Mystery Packs, Mass Market and Special Edition packs) comes with a stand that has what OYO calls a ‘DNA code’. It is a sort of a serial number that identifies a particular minifigure from a batch of say 1,000 or even just 100 of other minifigs released in the series. The quality of its prints and authentic logo designs are quite impressive, with OYO’s painstaking attention to details and accuracy.

To make these limited edition goodies more fun to collect, OYO has just announced the OYO Sports DNA Challenge. The contest is a kind of Easter egg hunt where OYO minifig owners can get a chance of winning of up to $200 in cash just by checking if their DNA codes matches to that of what they announce in their website. You may view the complete contest rules and details, including these week’s codes, by visiting their website.

With OYO’s large collection of limited minifigures, it’s kind of hard to keep track of their releases, and if you’re the completionist type then the OYO Collectors’ Corner is a must have. More like a checklist, the Collectors’ Corner is OYO’s weekly newsletter that highlights the rarity of its limited edition products. For this week, they’re featuring their Super Bowl editions, including the more recent SB51. You may check the most updated edition of their Collectors’ Corner right here.

Here’s the official word from OYO’s Daryl McKay.

OYO’s Collectors’ Corner Is Here!

OYO has regularly released Limited Edition minifigures and boxed sets around hot market items. We’re pleased to launch a newsletter for the Collector – the OYO Collectors’ Corner, and this week, we’re highlighting the Super Bowl editions of OYOs, including Super Bowl 51!

Some of these minifigures were produced in quantities of less than 100, others less than 1000. At 1000, that’s ONLY 20 minifigures in each state! That’s really rare!

We’re making OYOs to be fun,and authentic, minifigures that “play like a pro”! We’ll highlight a limited edition release regularly so fans who are “collecting them all”, know what’s available! A full checklist of all OYO Super Bowl releases is attached, along with the info about our release schedules of SB51!  Look for NFL Draft, NBA Finals and NHL Stanley Cup Champs as the next limited edition releases to come out this spring!

This Collectors’ Corner newsletter will be sent to consumers next week, and be part of our social posts, while all posts live on our Club OYO section of our website. OYO is innovating our approach to the consumer, and the ways we see to continue to expand the audience for OYO items. The Collectors’ Corner is phase 2, appealing to the thousands of fans who are already collecting OYOs.

Phase 1 launching TODAY is our DNA Challenge. We’ll have a separate post and email about this for you, our retailers. Every LE OYO minifigure has a unique DNA code on the base that is for that specific minifigure. Today, we’re announcing a promotion that encourages folks to find different DNA codes to get rewarded, sometimes cash prizes, other times autographs, and many other surprises. We’ll offer different hints and start the chase through our fans “Lego bins” and from those on to retailer shelves. Look for that announcement on all of our social posts, and be sure you are following us on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. We wanted this phase to go to consumers first!

Happy Hunting! Get ’em while you can find ’em!

It’s a Mecha Face-Off With The Custom LEGO Mecha Donald Robo!

We saw him leisurely drift in his classic LEGO Belchfire Runabout Mini Car a few days ago and this time, Japanese Master Builder Moko transports Donald Duck into the not so distant future where his choice of ride becomes a quacking and stomping custom LEGO Mecha Donald  Robo.

As a follow-up to his promise of paying tribute to the LEGO Disney CMF, his second creation is a more playful take on the distinct wackiness of our favorite Disney duck. Better get out of the way of its huge, webbed feet if you don’t want to be stomped silly. Moko even added a spring element at the back to give it a nice wind-up toy look.

Similar to his Mickey Robo, this wacky looking ride is also poseable. Moko originally thought of adding arms on the Mecha Donald Robo as he explained in his blogsite, but dropped the idea later on in favor of a more goofy-looking build. Always having an eye for detail, Moko adds a lovely bow tie and a horn element as well. It’s truly one epic face-off between two iconic Disney figures.

So what do you think about Moko’s LEGO Mecha Donald Robo? Which of Moko’s builds – Mickey Robo or Donald Robo – do you like best? Share us your pick in the comments section below.

Moko Does It Again With This Mecha Mickey Robo

When it comes to creative LEGO mechs, Master Builder Moko never runs out of wild ideas. From a transforming LEGO brick to a futuristic Mechatrobot, his creations never cease to surprise us with its simplicity and impressive articulation. So just imagine what happens when he gets his first LEGO Disney minifigures set – well, the result is one seriously hilarious mashup of Disney magic and action-packed Japanese anime. Enter the Mecha Mickey Robo.

Over at his Japanese blogsite, Moko confessed how excited he is upon getting his new Mickey Mouse minifigure, that he has to come up with a mecha build that is a fitting tribute to the most popular mouse on the face of the planet. Building on the charm and simplicity of Mickey, Moko came up with a down-to-earth, but pleasantly attractive Mecha Mickey Robo to complement the iconic character. If you’re familiar with Nintendo’s Kirby and his most recent game Kirby Robobot, you may have a pretty good grasp on where Moko is coming from.

Similar to his other builds, Moko’s trademark emphasis on articulation is very well seen in his Mickey Robo build. He also plans to make a similar ride both for Minnie and Donald Duck anytime soon. Just imagine a battalion of all your LEGO Disney minifigures on top of their own awesome mechs. That is one set that we will really look forward to. Just imagine how Ursula or Maleficent’s rides will be…So if you want to see more of Moko’s work or give him a compliment or two for his builds, you may drop him a note over his Flickr account or head over his blogsite.
