21322 BI 01 01 1

Notwithstanding the threat of COVID-19, I must say that 2020 is a year of great releases as far as the LEGO Ideas theme is concerned. Other than this recent addition, we also have the LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street Apartment Building (21323) to watch out for. And if there are any LEGO sets that will fill in the top spot of my LEGO wishlist for 2020, these two will definitely suffice.

The LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay (21322) will be available beginning April 1st (and on my AFOL’s honor, this is NOT  an April Fool’s Day joke) at LEGO Shop@Home and on LEGO brand stores, retailing for $199.99. It’s not on sale or pre-order yet, but you have the option of adding this to your LEGO online wishlist.

Arghhh me hearties! Explore an epic shipwreck with the new LEGO® Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay

Pirates of Barracuda Bay (21322) 21322 Box5 v39

The LEGO Group has announced the latest LEGO Ideas set, bringing back memories of the beloved LEGO Pirates theme.

Become a pirate with this brand-new LEGO Ideas set, inspired by the 1989 Black Seas Barracuda pirate ship model. Adventurers can now explore the island and the wreckage of Captain Redbeard’s famous ship, which was lost at sea over 30 years ago.

The new LEGO© Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay set has been created based on a submission to the LEGO Ideas platform by fan designer Pablo Sánchez Jiménez, who has a passion for all things pirate and was inspired after building LEGO brick models with his dad when he was young. The concept behind the LEGO® IDEAS Pirates of Barracuda Bay set reached the 10,000-supporter milestone in just 25 days – making it one of the quickest sets to hit the target.

With 2,545-pieces in total, the model contains everything a pirate or LEGO fan needs to create the ultimate shipwreck – including a captain’s quarters, food store and supply dock. LEGO builders can even uncover buried treasure on the island by removing parts of the ship to explore new areas and create new stories.

This set also contains 8 Minifigures all based on pirate characters from the classic pirate lines, including the iconic Captain Redbeard, Lady Anchor, Robin Loot and the twins, Port and Starboard, as well as 3 other pirates and 2 skeleton figures and various animals to discover on the island.

When builders tire of being stranded at sea, the island can also be reassembled to create Captain Redbeard’s legendary ship, the Black Seas Barracuda. Rebuild the ship to launch a rescue mission to take the ship’s crew back to safety and find the buried treasure.

The LEGO® Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay set measures over 23” (59cm) high, 25” (64cm) wide and 12” (32cm) deep and is sure to catch the eye whether proudly displayed or placed amongst other LEGO Pirate sets.

LEGO Ideas offers fans the opportunity to submit their own brick creations with the chance to have their concept brought to life with the help of LEGO master designers and a share of the net sales.

Fans can submit their own LEGO set ideas at ideas.LEGO.com.

21322 LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay will be available directly via LEGO.com and LEGO Stores from 1st April 2020.

Are We To See the LEGO Ideas The Pirate Bay (21322) Set Anytime Soon?

LEGO’s official Facebook page gave out a series of teasers that somehow gives the impression that the next LEGO Ideas reveal is on its way very soon. If you recall during the LEGO Ideas First 2019 Review Stage, three sets managed to receive the thumbs up approval of the reviewers to become the next LEGO Ideas sets: the impressive Playable LEGO Piano, my personal favorite, 123 Sesame Street Apartment Building, and The Pirate Bay. One of these sets is now slated to be announced anytime soon, with the consensus of most fans that the latter might be appearing on LEGO Shop@Home anytime soon.

As of this posting, LEGO has already launched two polls on its Facebook page that asks AFOLs of their favorite LEGO Pirates sets from the past.

Based on its first social media poll, most LEGO fans who joined in weighed their choices between the LEGO Black Seas Barracuda (6285) and the LEGO Skull’s Eye Schooner (6286). It’s a bit of a tight race between the two, with the Black Seas Barracuda emerging as the all-time favorite pirate ship among the 38,000 fans who cast their votes.

The second poll is currently on-going, asking fans whether they had any of the two classic LEGO Pirate sets where they can dock their brick pirate ships. Its a choice between the Lagoon Lock-Up (6267) or the Imperial Trading Post (6277) for that matter.

It’s a great way to spark the interest of the LEGO community, especially that our next LEGO Ideas set is something that is very endeared among older LEGO fans. The LEGO Ideas The Pirate Bay (21322) by Pablo Jimenez (aka Bricky_Brick over at the LEGO Ideas website) is scheduled to be our next fan-designed set following the LEGO Ideas International Space Station (21321). This set is expected to follow a modular design similar to that of the LEGO Ideas Old Fishing Store (21310) from 2017. Like any other LEGO Ideas set, we can expect that the LEGO Design Team has put considerable effort into streamlining this set, taking into account the size and scale of The Pirate Bay.

LEGO Ideas The Pirate Bay

The LEGO Ideas The Pirate Bay (21322) follows a modular design similar to its predecessor the LEGO Ideas Old Fishing Store (21310).

We do not have any additional details about the LEGO Ideas The Pirate Bay except for its expected price point of $200 based on Price Vortex’s listing. And if this turns out to be true, then this recent LEGO Ideas set will be the second one within the said price range, other than the LEGO Ideas Tree House (21318). Its a bit pricy, but the scale of this model is certainly worth it.

With these recent developments, we can expect an official reveal from LEGO anytime soon. So be sure to stay tuned here in our blogsite for more updates about the LEGO Ideas The Pirate Bay (21322).

Check Out the Winners of the LEGO Ideas Build United! Contest

Back in January, the LEGO Ideas platform launched the LEGO Ideas Build United! contest that challenges builders to come up with their most awesome builds to celebrate the legacy of the iconic Old Trafford and the subsequent release of the LEGO Creator Expert Old Trafford – Manchester United (10272) set.

LEGO Ideas Contest

The challenge is to recreate the most celebrated scenes of Manchester United – whether a historic goal, iconic badges, or even the player themselves – using LEGO bricks. Out of a total of 275 contest entries, three stood above the rest earning the thumbs up approval of the LEGO Ideas Review Team. Two Runner-Ups and a Grand Prize Winner were eventually selected. Let’s take a look at the winning entries in this LEGO Ideas Build United! contest and read on for what the judges have to say about them.

Runner-Up #1: Watching the Football Game by Hb3

LEGO Ideas Build United!

This build is an amazing display of forced perspective! When we first saw the model, we thought that it was a photoshop job in order to get the scene so nicely fit to the television. The pictures showing the model from a different angle show how clever the whole construction is. The details of the antenna on the TV, the brick-built remote, and the lines on the field all help to make this one amazing creation!

Runner-Up #2: The Bicycle 2-1 Winning Kick by Stevenhoward27

LEGO Ideas Build United!

Capturing human forms with LEGO bricks, let alone the human form in motion, is an incredibly difficult task. The builder does a wonderful job of recreating the movement and energy of this iconic moment in Manchester United history, a very hard task with LEGO bricks! We also love the use of multiple scales, with all of the spectators in the background really completing this iconic image.

Grand Prize Winner – United with Manchester by Bluestar13

united with manchester

We love all of the details in this model showing the surrounds of the original stadium. The designer has done an incredible job of capturing the plan, buildings, greenery, roads, trainlines, and river at such an incredibly small scale. That’s not even mentioning the fantastic nanoscale version of Old Trafford!

As always with other LEGO Ideas building contests, the prizes definitely does not disappoint. The Runner Up winners get to bring home an impressive LEGO loot consisting of the LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop (10270), London Bus (10258), and a LEGO Technic Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (42093); plus a $150 shopping spree at LEGO Shop@Home.

And as the Grand Prize Winner, Bluestar13 gets to bring home an exclusive Manchester United merchandise, a LEGO Creator Expert Old Trafford (10272), Bookshop (10270), and the LEGO modular commemorative set Assembly Square (10255).

Congratulations to the winners! Keep building!

LEGO Ideas The Great Fishing Boat Enters First 2020 Review Stage

For all sea-loving AFOLs out there: this will certainly be a great addition to the LEGO Ideas Old Fishing Store (21310). As we close in towards the conclusion of this year’s LEGO Ideas First Review Stage, we now have our next 10K qualifier that managed to gather the needed support from the LEGO fan community. The LEGO Ideas The Great Fishing Boat by EdouardClo received the thumbs-up seal of approval from more than 10,000 LEGO fans, for the bid to become the next official LEGO Ideas set.

LEGO Ideas The Great Fishing Boat

The LEGO Ideas The Great Fishing Boat is inspired by the adventurous team of four brave fishermen including their captain as they brave the elements in search of their next big catch. The ship itself features a pretty sleek and subtle hull and bow, that comes in a soothing combination of dark red and turquoise colors. A closer look reveals a detailed rendition of its deck, hatch and other mechanisms to manage their rich, underwater haul. And finally, this LEGO Ideas The Great Fishing Boat also with a dinghy and a crane to traverse further into the sea.

The Great Fishing Boat is the 12th project to qualify for the LEGO Ideas Review Stage, following the likes of Mary Poppins, Cherry Tree LaneTesla CybertruckUntitled Goose GameUCS Chitty Chitty Bang BangThe Train Station: StudgateSpaceX Falcon 9Mini-fig Scale Project GeminiRetro Bowling AlleyIndiana Jones Trilogy, Bricks & Blooms, and Sonic Mania-Green Hill Zone.

The Great Fishing Boat

LEGO Ideas The Great Fishing Boat

The sea is rough. In the early morning, the fishermen of the ship are on deck, busy sorting freshly caught fish. One scans the horizon, the captain handles his boat from the bridge, struggling against the elements. It is sometimes hard, but tonight they will be back to the harbour.

As you understood, this is a fishing boat. And more precisely they are fishing tunas, those huge and powerful silver beasts.

Did you know that even nowadays, tunas are still caught using fishing rods? Yes this is why there are 8 long dark bluish grey rods at the back of the cabin!

lego ideas great fishing boat 2

Why is this build so nice:

  • Beautiful hull shape, with an elegant raised bow, with extremely fine and sleek lines and curves, inward and outward.  Very subtle!
  • The color scheme: dark red under the waterline and dark turquoise and white for the rest of the hull and cabin.
  • 2 masts: the white tops look amazing. They support lights, mandatory on today’s boats, which even fish at night.
  • The wooden deck and hatch for the hold with the crane to stow and unload fish containers.
  • The great cabin, with vertical windows and the amazing dark turquoise roof. There is also a nice chimney on the rear.
  • At the stern (rear) there is the dinghy, with a crane to launch it. (-> See the picture!)
  • The golden propeller integrated into the curves of the hull looks amazing.
  • Silver details and deck fittings.
  • 4 minifigures: 3 sailors and their captain, with dark blue and orange raincoats and rain hat.
  • Golden cleats, beautiful to moor the ship.

Sonic Returns in this LEGO Ideas Sonic Mania – Green Hill Zone Project

Another member is welcomed in the halls of the LEGO Ideas 10K Club and this time its toastergrl from the UK, and her qualifying LEGO Ideas Sonic Mania – Green Hill Zone project. Hot off the heals of the LEGO product idea Bricks & Blooms, the Sonic Mania – Green Hill Zone is our 11th entry that managed to gather the necessary 10,000 LEGO fan votes, enabling it to enter the First 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage. This project is based on 2017’s SEGA video game release, Sonic Mania, celebrating our blue blur’s 25th year anniversary.

Sonic Mania

I never had the chance of having Sonic as a LEGO minifigure, and though I regret the fact that I didn’t immediately grab the opportunity of getting him when his first-ever LEGO set came out in the form of a LEGO Dimensions Level Pack back in 2016, I hope that the Sonic Mania -Green Hill Zone project will provide the opportunity of seeing him again in an official LEGO set.

For the meantime, we have to wait a bit more to see if the LEGO Ideas Review Team will give this product idea a thumbs up, alongside other qualifiers for this year’s First Review Stage:  Mary Poppins, Cherry Tree LaneTesla CybertruckUntitled Goose GameUCS Chitty Chitty Bang BangThe Train Station: StudgateSpaceX Falcon 9Mini-fig Scale Project GeminiRetro Bowling Alley, Indiana Jones Trilogy, and Bricks & Blooms.

Check out the features of this set as described by toastergrl:

Sonic Mania – Green Hill Zone

Sonic Mania

For the Mania… By the Mania!

Released digitally in late 2017 and expanded on with a physical release a year later, Sonic Mania is many things. An authentic recreation of the timeless gameplay stylings of the ’90s, a stunning showcase of gorgeous pixel art and striking low-poly models, and our first true taste of what Sonic fans, gone pro, can do with the series. With all this under its belt, it’s no surprise the game is still extremely popular even years later. What better way, then, to keep the ultimate celebration of past and future rolling into the franchise’s 30th anniversary in 2021 than by bringing the hedgehog’s adventures to the brick-built world of LEGO?

Includes:

  • “Classic” Sonic the Hedgehog minifigure
  • “Classic” Dr. Eggman, Motobug and three Flickies as brick-built figures
  • Heavy Gunner and Heavy Magician as brick-built figures
  • Green Hill Zone “Palm Tree”, “Spring”, “Bridge and “Loop” modules
  • Egg Robot mech
  • Phantom Ruby and Ring accessories
  • ~700 pieces, with 8 new prints (excluding minifigure parts) and a sticker sheet

Sonic and LEGO are a perfect match; much like our favorite construction toy, the blue hedgehog is hugely popular with kids worldwide. Just as Sonic games give you the tools to take any given act however you want, the only limit with LEGO is your imagination – and to help inspire new adventures, this set has been designed with an alternate “Encore mode” build true to Sonic Mania Plus. Not only that, but both configurations are loaded with reconfigurability and action functions – so that busy hands can keep on returning to this play experience!

Play features:

  • Create your own act by connecting the Green Hill Zone modules together.
  • Use the Technic lever on the spring module to launch Sonic and his Flicky friends into the air!
  • Help Sonic collect the ring and Extra Life while dodging the Motobug.
  • Sit Dr. Eggman inside the Egg Robot mech.
  • Stomp through the zone with the mech’s posable arms and legs.
  • Use the handle on the mech’s extendable arms to perform a drill attack!
  • Stop the Phantom Ruby falling into the clutches of Dr. Eggman and the Hard-Boiled Heavies!
  • Rebuild into the “Encore mode” alternate build to continue the adventure – with additional modules, the Heavy King and his lackeys, Master Emerald, and the Tornado!

Bricks & Blooms Qualifies for the First 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage

We need a bit of sunshine and good vibes don’t you think especially during these trying times. And though the LEGO House will be closed for the time being in response to Denmark’s lockdown due to COVID-19, I’m glad that there are brick creations such as Bricked1980′s LEGO Ideas Bricks & Blooms that has now entered the roster of 10K qualifiers for the First 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage.

Bricks & Blooms

Following the success of the Indiana Jones Trilogy product idea, this modular building managed to gather the necessary 10,000 fan support needed to move on to the next level of the LEGO Ideas process cycle. The LEGO Ideas Bricks & Blooms is a 3-level garden-inspired building, complete with a cafe, a fruit and vegetable stand, and many more.

Bricks & Blooms

Though I like the calm and relaxing look that the Bricks & Blooms MOC offers, I’m not quite sure how it will hurdle the rules set by the LEGO Ideas Review Team, specifically regarding product proposals that are based on already existing LEGO themes. We’ll just have to see how things turn out when the review cycle begins in May. Bricks & Blooms is the 10th LEGO product idea to qualify for this year’s first Review Stage, joining the ranks of other cool entries such as the Mary Poppins, Cherry Tree LaneTesla CybertruckUntitled Goose GameUCS Chitty Chitty Bang BangThe Train Station: StudgateSpaceX Falcon 9Mini-fig Scale Project Gemini, Retro Bowling Alley, and Indiana Jones Trilogy.

Here’s what Bricked1980 has to say about his/her LEGO Ideas creation.

LEGO Ideas Bricks & Blooms

Bricks & Blooms

Bricks & Blooms is a LEGO modular, high street garden center. It is designed to be compatible with existing LEGO modular buildings and is constructed on a 32 x 32 base plate from 2587 pieces.

The model is made up of 3 modular levels featuring a garden center with fruit and veg stall, a cafe/restaurant and an aquatics department.

 Level 1 – Garden Centre

On the ground level is a bustling street scene including a tree, lots of plants, and a bench. The main entrance leads into the garden center itself and there is also a fruit and veg stall selling produce to customers passing by on the street. Inside the building, there are plants and gardening tools for sale. At the back of the building is the main outdoor garden center area selling plants and other gardening products.

Level 2 – Cafe/Restaurant

No garden center would be complete without a cafe! Level 2 is accessed by steps at the back of the building and includes a detailed kitchen and seating for the minifigures. There is also a small balcony that looks out on to the street below.

Level 3 – Aquatics Department

On level 3 is an Aquatics store with fish, aquariums and a cashier desk. A door at the side of the room leads out on to a small roof terrace area.

Flower Cart, Minifigures, and Other Details

The set also includes a flower cart, lawnmower, 6 minifigures, and a cat.

LEGO Ideas Music To Our Ears Building Contest Announced

Following the most recent contest launched via the LEGO Ideas platform, we now have another contest that will challenge the LEGO artist in you. The LEGO Ideas Music to Our Ears Building Contest invites you to show your love for music through LEGO bricks.

What is unique about this contest is that a board of judges will pre-select ten entries that will qualify for the Fan Vote Phase in order to determine the overall winner. And on top of that, those entries that will make it to the Fan Vote Phase will also enter a Product Review Phase to determine its feasibility of becoming an official LEGO Ideas set. Other than the cool prizes that await the Grand Prize Winner, the greatest reward that the winner will get is seeing his/her entry having the chance of becoming a LEGO set. Like any other LEGO Ideas project, it will also go through the same robust review cycle.

Music To Our Ears!

We’ve got a contest, which we hope sounds great! You will remember your favorite songs lyrics off by heart. You will remember your first concert or maybe the first time you played an instrument. We are not sure yet on what this set might be, only that it was given a set number of 21322 retailing for $200 as listed by Price Vortex. It could either be my personal favorite, the LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street, the LEGO Ideas The Pirate Bay, or the LEGO Ideas Playable Piano. My hopes are with the LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street and I’m really excited and happy for the winners who will be the first to try this set if ever this is the mystery prize.

Here’s How You Can Have Your Very Own LEGO Ideas Pursuit of Flight Custom Set

If you’re following our blog site for some time now, you may probably have stumbled across the impressive work of Jason Allemann or aka JK Brickworks for most members of the LEGO fan community. He’s been known as the fan builder behind some official LEGO sets released such as the LEGO Ideas Pop-Up Book (21315) and the LEGO Ideas Maze (21305). But in spite of his many accomplishments, he always finds time to give back to the community. And this time around, he is sharing to the world one of his prized creations to show us how we can build our very own LEGO Ideas Pursuit of Flight custom set.

If you recall, the Pursuit of Flight was Jason’s most recent entry to the LEGO Ideas platform that managed to enter the Second 2019 LEGO Ideas Review Stage. However, it was bested by the now approved LEGO Ideas Medieval Castle and Winnie the Pooh. However, in spite of this setback, it did not deter Jason from giving back to those LEGO fans who supported his work. He now makes the building instructions available to the public for free as his way of saying thank you for the 10K support that his LEGO product idea received throughout the years.

main pursuit of flight

If you want to have your own set based on this entry, then you may head over at Jason’s website, JK Brickworks, to download the instructions in PDF format, including its parts list, and a reference to a Rebrickable page so you can check if you have the 367 parts needed lying around in your LEGO collection. You also have the option of motorizing this build, using the Power Functions M-Motor instead of the hand crank. In case you missed it, here is a video demo on how his Pursuit of Flight works.

A huge thanks to Jason for sharing this impressive work for us to enjoy!
