And Our First 2016 LEGO Ideas Set Is…

Following the teaser of LEGO Ideas over at their blog site regarding the announcement of the results of the first 2016 Review Stage, we now have our victor among 9 hopefuls: The Old Fishing Store by Robert Bontenbal (RobenAnne) was announced as the next LEGO Ideas project that eventually received the thumbs up from LEGO’s Review Team at the LEGO HQ in Billund, Denmark. Here are additional photos from the Old Fishing Store as originally submitted by Bontenbal. Take note that this is not yet the final model as offered by LEGO.

Bontenbal’s ‘Old Fishing Store’ is among the nine projects that reached the 10K supporter milestone between January and May of this year, including the Fossil Museum by whatpumpkin, Gingerbread House by Swan Dutchman, the Jedi High Council Chamber by lojaco, Jurassic Park Visitor Centre by LDiEgo, Modular Train Station by LegoWolf, Particle Accelerator by JKBrickworks, Rolling BB-8 by mjsmiley and artbot138, and Johnny Five by PepaQuin.

Here’s the announcement as delivered by Charlotte of the LEGO Ideas Review Team straight from Billund

Fishing has always been a central point in Robert Bontenbal’s life. This big passion, in combination with his day job as an architectural draughtsman, is what came together to create this beautiful model that is packed with lovely details and play opportunities. Its creative building style represents a unique design expression for LEGO houses that we’re all very excited about. We’re still working out the final product design, pricing and availably for the Old Fishing Store, so check back on LEGO Ideas in 2017 for details.

Congratulations once again to Robert Bontenbal and to his Old Fishing Store set and we’re excited to see this on shelves by Fall of next year. The Second LEGO Ideas Review Stage is currently on going with 12 projects that qualified within the period of May and September.

We seem to have a large number of candidates this time and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for our own personal favorites like the Voltron – Defender of the Universe by len_d69, Addams Family Mansion by afol777, and Merchant’s House by bigboy99899. We all hope for the best as the approved project (s) will be announced early next year.

The first half (Batgirl’s Batjet 41230, Harley Quinn’s Cafe Rescue 41231, Super Hero High School 41232) of the DC Super Hero Girls theme will hit shelves on November 27, while the remaining half is scheduled for a global launch on January 2017. I must say that the sets under this theme are rather impressive. Though I am not a fan of minidolls since their debut in LEGO’s Friends line-up, seeing the renditions that LEGO created for these DC heroines and the varied sets that come with them, I can say that the theme may have a fair share of following later on in the future.  We just have to wait and see until the LEGO DC Super Hero Girls make their debut in this week’s NYCC.

BREAKING: Additional LEGO Batman Movie Sets Revealed!

It seems that LEGO is gearing things up for this week’s New York Comic Con. Hot off the trail of LEGO’s recent tease on the DC Super Hero Girls sets comes another surprisingly delightful reveal over at their Facebook page. Just a few minutes ago, LEGO has unveiled three more LEGO Batman Movie sets.

We don’t have TLG’s official press release yet, nor any other info for that matter, but knowing how things will rise to a crescendo as we approach NYCC, we’re sure to get more info from LEGO and Warner Bros. by then. Here’s a closer look at these pretty cool sets.

The Arkham Asylum

The Batcave

Batman VS Mr. Freeze

It is interesting to note that LEGO informant Delta Customs has previously predicted these sets and right now we can see that he is clearly accurate with his forecasts. This gives a good probability that we might be seeing a newer version of the Batwing, a Killer Croc Swamp set, and lots of cool vehicles for Gotham’s vilest villains. Hopefully, we’ll have a glimpse on these once NYCC kicks in. In case you missed it, here are the first two sets that were earlier revealed during San Diego Comic Con last July.

The Batmobile (70905)

The Joker’s Notorious Lowrider (70906)

Brickset has listed five additional place holders in their database, which means that LEGO intends to have a total of 10 sets dedicated to their next hit animated movie. That definitely says something about how big the movie is going to be – after, this is THE Batman.

The LEGO Batman Movie is slated to hit theatres on February 10, 2017.

First Look At LEGO’s Next Seasonal Set: Santa Claus 40206.

It seems that we’ll be ticking another set to add in our Christmas wish list. We know that for this holiday season, the Elves’ Workshop (40205) is the next seasonal set to be slated after the Pilgrim’s Feast (40204). Perhaps in the spirit of the Christmas season, LEGO will be offering not one, but two Christmas themed sets this November. Thanks to LEGO Store Budapest’s exclusive catalogue, we now have a first look at the Santa Claus (40206) which seems to go pretty well with the Elves’ Workshop (40205). Here’s page 38 of the said catalogue.

Quite noticeably, the Santa Claus set looks very much the same as that of the Pilgrim in terms of build, save for that clever use of the flame element for St. Nick’s mustache.

40206-1  40206-box

We don’t have any info yet on the pricing and piece count but since we have a rather similar build to that of the Pilgrim, we can assume that it is probably within the same $9.99 price range with an almost 200 piece count. It will be great to have this as a promotional set similar to that of the LEGO Snowglobe (40223) having it as a free item for walk-in or online purchases – after all, it’s the season of sharing. Thanks to Brickset for the tip!

First Half of LEGO DC Super Hero Girls 2017 Sets Unveiled!

Last month, we shared some news on what’s brewing on the LEGO DC Comics rumor mill and as it turned out, there is confirmation that some of these rumors are indeed true. LEGO insider CM4Sci from Eurobricks predicted how these sets will look like and this time around, we now have official images on how the first three of the 2017 LEGO DC Super Hero Girls sets actually looks like. As always, CM4Sci’s accuracy is amazingly spot on. Take a look.

Batgirl’s Batjet (41230)

Harley Quinn’s Cafe Rescue (41231)

Super Hero High School (41232)

These images were directly shared by LEGO via their Facebook page, and will eventually make their debut at this year’s New York Comic Con starting October 6 until October 9. They are expected to be available to the general public on Cyber Monday, November 28 as reported by Time Magazine.

Brickset has also updated their database to include the abovementioned sets, with three more place holders for the remaining sets belonging to the same theme:

  • Lashina’s Action Rider (41233)
  • Bumblebee’s Helicopter (41234)
  • Wonder Woman’s Dorm (41235)

As you may have noticed, the characters in these sets come in minidoll forms similar to that of the LEGO Friends theme.

What do you think about these sets? Do you think they have the potential to launch off as one of LEGO’s promising active themes? Share us what you think in the comments below or join the discussion via our Facebook page.

LEGO Dimensions Sloth Minifigure Makes His Debut!

A couple of hours ago, LEGO Dimensions’ official Twitter page gave us a glimpse of how the Goonies iconic character looks like in his actual minifigure form. We already have an early glimpse on how Sloth looks like during this year’s E3 LEGO Dimension presentation. Here’s the video in case you missed it and watch out for him at around the 0:46 mark.

We do not have any further official images or description of Sloth as of now, but LEGO Dimensions’ Twitter post below is enough to keep us on our toes and be excited about how the next wave of LEGO Dimensions will take shape. Here’s the image that they shared.

For one, Sloth will enter the LEGO Dimensions portal in his own Level Pack as revealed by Travellers Tales’ Head of Design Arthur Parsons.

As you may have noticed, Sloth is wearing a Superman tank top reminiscent of what the character looks like during a particular scene in the film. The Sloth minifigure head piece is a separate element that re-creates the elongated form of his head with a small patch of hair on top. Take a look at the photos below.

chunk-and-sloth sloth-superman

For those of you who were wondering who the Sloth and Goonies, they are characters based on the 1985 hit comedy film composed of a ragtag team of juvenile adventurers who call themselves the Goonies. The film is centered on the Goonies’ quest to find the pirate’s treasure that will save their neighborhood from the impending construction of a golf course. In doing so, they get to meet a bunch of interesting characters, including the dysfunctional Fratelli family and their gargantuan member, Lotney ‘Sloth’ Fratelli. Though frighteningly disfigured and somehow slow on the uptake, the Goonies soon realized that the Sloth is a very valuable help and loyal friend. Watch the video below of some of the moments of the Sloth as he is seen in the Goonies 1985 film. Please mind some of the language spoken by the characters.

Currently, we have a total of 16 new IPs and licenses added to the roster of LEGO Dimensions, with characters from the titles like Beetlejuice, the Powerpuff Girls, and Teen Titans GO! still waiting to be revealed.

LEGO Holiday Countdown Calendar 40222 Now Available!

Every year, LEGO is fond of releasing its advent calendar series that offers a bit of a LEGO surprise for each day of December up until Christmas Eve. Traditionally, LEGO offers three advent calendars under its most active themes, namely Star Wars (75146) retailing at $39.99, and City (60133) and Friends (41131) themed calendars both retailing at $29.99 each.

This time, LEGO seems to be in an early Christmas spirit with its latest addition to the advent calendar series – and this time, they’re giving it away for FREE! The LEGO Holiday Countdown Calendar 40222 is this month’s promotional set that comes free with purchases of $99 and above starting October 1 until 25 or until supplies last. It comes in 250 pieces that you can use to build and rebuild the 24 individual creations that go along with the calendar.

LEGO Holiday Countdown Calendar 40222

Like any other previous promotional, you can expect that the Holiday Countdown Calendar will be another hit and given that October is the start of the early Christmas shopping rush, it might disappear quickly. However, there might also be the possibility of having the 40222 available for separate purchase since lists the set with a retail price of $19.99. There is no option of purchasing it separately as of this writing. Nevertheless, placing your orders for this month of October is a sure advantage since Double VIP points are up for the entire month.

LEGO’s October Deals Are Now Up!

October is here and for most of us, this means that our Christmas wish list is starting to take shape – or longer for that matter. That’s why starting this month, LEGO has prepped its own list of holiday gift suggestions starting with several new sets for LEGO fans of all ages. It gets better if you’re a VIP member because the whole month of October allows you to earn Double VIP points, PLUS you’ll get a free LEGO Holiday Countdown Calendar (40222) once your purchase reaches $99 and above. This free exclusive is available from October 1-25 or while supplies last.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at what LEGO has to offer starting this month. First off, we have the LEGO Creator Winter Holiday Train (10254) for that added yuletide fun around the Christmas tree. With a full circle track and an optional LEGO Power Function motor, you can animate it to give more life to that little Christmas corner in your home.

Up next, legion of LEGO Star Wars fans gets another shot of owning the iconic Imperial superweapon with the rehashed LEGO Star Wars Death Star (75159). Though the said UCS wasn’t welcomed with a red carpet and rave reviews, it gradually climbed its way towards the must-have list of LEGO Star Wars collectors, particularly to those who missed out on the 2008 LEGO Star War Death Star (10188). The upcoming Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One, may also have been instrumental on the renewed interest in the brick-built planetary weapon. If you’re planning to invest in this latest LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series, you may want to check out first Stephen’s review below.

75159_box1_v39 75159-1

Similarly, LEGO has launched eight new sets to celebrate the latest Star Wars film. Debuting to the general public during last week’s Force Friday, the LEGO Star Wars Rogue One sets consists of five new vehicles and three buildable figures. Though the launch of these sets are not without some issues, particularly via, they were welcomed positively by the LEGO community. They are now available at LEGO Brand Stores and online to make a perfect holiday gift for any Padawan or Jedi at heart. You may want to check out our reviews over at YouTube to see the various play features of these sets.

For the sporty gear head in the family, you may want to pick up the newest LEGO Ideas Caterham Seven 620R (21307) that highlight the venerable British sports car. This fan-submitted LEGO Ideas project is truly spot-on, with all the details and decals similar to that of the legendary speedster. It is now available at retailing at $79.99.

Though it started well in 2014, it’s eventually a curtain call for the crazy and wacky bunch of the LEGO Mixels after Cartoon Network announced that the said collaboration with LEGO will finally come to an end next year. Airing its final episode last month over at Cartoon Network, LEGO has now released the presumably last series of its themed tribe characters, showcasing the Trashoz, Nindjas, and Newzers. We don’t know until when this zany bunch of Series 9 characters will still be up until they are retired, and we sincerely hope that LEGO has a grand plan under its sleeve to somehow ease the disappointment of some kids and fans that will be missing these mixing and murphing bunch of oddities.

Finally, LEGO’s latest offering in its toys-to-life theme is now available. LEGO Dimensions Series 2, also known as Wave 6, is now up at all LEGO Brand Stores and online. Featuring a bigger, and wider selection coming from all 16 licenses and names, we can expect plenty of new characters to enter the LEGO Dimensions portal anytime soon. Click on the links below to know more about the deals and offers from both and Wildcard Toys.
