News of Toy Brand Merger Causes LEGO Owner’s Net Worth to Increase by $2.7 Billion.

It’s easy to understand the enduring family appeal of a toy brand such as LEGO when you look at their history and realize that theirs is a family thing as well. From the humble workshop of Danish carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen in Billund, The LEGO Group expanded into the global giant it is today under the leadership of Ole Kirk, his son Gotfried and grandson Kjeld Kirk Christiansen.

141117kjeldkirkfeatured e1510712229819

While Kjeld Kirk already holds the distinction of being the richest man in Denmark, his fortunes may have just skyrocketed even further after a series of events saw his net worth jump by $2.7 billion in a single day.

The owner of The LEGO Group can thank two global toy brand competitors for the rise in his valuation, namely US-based multinational companies Mattel – makers of Barbie – and action figure juggernaut Hasbro. After talks flooded the business world of the two brands discussing a possible merger, the financial clout of such a potential new corporate heavyweight caused the stock market to hurriedly increase valuations of other companies in the worldwide toy industry.

Thus The LEGO Group found itself revalued more with a $2.7 billion increase; and seeing as the company is privately held by the Christiansen family and their foundations, this puts Kjeld Kirk’s net worth in an even better position.

Business news source Bloomberg explained that the $2.7 valuation increase of The LEGO Group was “due to a rise in the peers’ valuation metrics following merger speculation.” In addition to LEGO itself, Kjeld Kirk Christiansen is chairman and part-owner of another business concern, KIRKBI Holdings.

While LEGO is currently the largest toy manufacturer in the world, if the proposed Mattel-Hasbro merger does take place, the result will bump LEGO down to the second – largest worldwide instead.

Kjeld Kirk’s last major press appearance was during the recent opening of LEGO House in Billund.

More Box Art Images of the Latest 2018 Nexo Knights Sets Spotted!

After Jason and the rest of the Brick Show team went on a LEGO hunting trip yesterday, it appears that more sightings of the latest wave of LEGO Nexo Knights sets have been spotted in various Toys R Us stores. Thanks to Eurobricks forum members, we now have some decent images of the sets’ box arts that might give us a hint on how these sets are. As of this writing, 5  out of 6 of the 2018 sets were now spotted ahead of this year’s Brick Friday LEGO sale. However, it seems that official images are only limited to the Berserker Bomber (72003), and we still haven’t seen the likes of Lance’s Hover Jouster (72001).  We’ll keep you posted once official images are which are expected to be available by before the end of the month.

Here’s what fellow AFOLs found through various stores. Credits also to Brickset for sharing some of these images.

Toy ‘R’ Us UK Having Another Make and Take Event Featuring a LEGO Microbuild BB-8.

Toys ‘R’ Us in the UK sure loves their LEGO “Make and Take” events during the weekends. After indulging in the hype of The LEGO Ninjago Movie with a chance for guests to bring home an Ice Tank polybag, now the global toy retailer’s UK stores will be heading back to the galaxy far, far away with their next Make and Take Building Event.

This event has already been held in US and German Toys ‘R’ Us stores, so this time it’s the turn of their British cousins to offer a model of the ball-shaped astromech droid BB-8 for guests to Make and Take.

111017bb8makeandtakefeatured 880x320 e1510693347266

Quite obviously, it’s not the 1,000-piece, LEGO Star Wars BB-8 (75187) but rather a build-your-own mini version using specific existing LEGO Parts, the instructions to which are available for download online. It uses no unique printed parts and its round body is but a rough approximation of a sphere, but hey, even a rudimentary TRU Millennium Falcon polybag is popular enough to sell out.

Anyway, UK customers who would like to get their hands on building their own mini BB-8 had better make their way to their nearest Toys ‘R’ Store on Saturday, November 18, between 11AM and 1PM (just like last time). It’s likely that the promotional event will also include a scavenger hunt through the store like stateside.

131117bb8maketake

All this of course is in anticipation for the much awaited Star Wars Episode VII – The Last Jedi, which comes to UK cinemas on December 14 and stateside on the following day. Just so you know, the second wave of LEGO Star Wars sets based on the film – while officially not out until 2018 – were spotted in some retailers already.

Marvel Teases List of LEGO-style Comic Book Cover Collectibles in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2.

The worldwide release of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is almost upon us. It’s already known that the multi-platform title will have content that references the recently-released MCU film Thor: Ragnarok, and that its list of in-game achievement trophies (at least for the PS4 version) have been revealed.

LEGO videogames are popular for the sheer amount of stuff to collect as players explore the sprawling game world, and LEGO MSH2 is no exception to this. So, with the game so close to coming out, Marvel itself has revealed the collectible comic book covers to be found, all “LEGO-fied” for players.

LM LVL01 NOVA1976025CVR Final

The LEGO Marvel Comics covers are done by artist Dan Veesenmeyer, and cover periods of Marvel history from now to all the way back to their golden age. Some visuals are just the covers on their own while others are side-by-side comparisons of the LEGO versions with their original cover artwork.

Also expected, certain covers, despite being from retro Marvel periods, will depict the characters as they are popularly nowadays known like in the MCU films. That means instead of a Caucasian Agent Nick Fury of SHIELD, we get the Ultimate Marvel/MCU film version – who is portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson.

Wal-Mart Announces LEGO Brick Set Deals for Black Friday 2017.

We only have ten days to go before Thanksgiving, and Black Friday, of course, comes in the next day, where retail businesses get crowded by frenzied waves of holiday shoppers.  As expected, the biggest names in retail have started their promotions and pitches already.

As of to date, Wal-Mart has brought out its Black Friday 2017 ads, and as expected, they have a special treat or two lined up for solid fans of LEGO, either in the Classic line or the younger-geared Duplo series. Check these out:

10704 alt1

For the regular LEGO range, Wal-Mart offers the LEGO Classic Creative Box (10704), a set of 900 bricks and assorted pieces with which young builders can create basically anything that they fancy: from space ships to boats, and race cars to flying monsters. The many possibilities with a LEGO brick is practically endless.

This is a perfect gift for a budding LEGO fan of at least age 4, especially if you’d like him to start really big with a pile of pieces to work with.

Next on the Wal-Mart Promos is the LEGO Duplo Creative Box (10854), the even younger version of set 10704, perfect for constructive tykes between ages 2 to 5.

10854 alt1

It’s got 120 pieces, not much in comparison to its larger sibling. The variety of shapes and colors will definitely help young builders enjoy every second of their building experience. Set 10854 even comes with some minifigures of a boy and his cat for added fun with any resulting creations.

Both of these sets are normally priced at $39.99, but on Black Friday, Wal-Mart is offering them at a flat $20 each, whether they are in-store or purchased online. The offer’s good while supplies last, and there might be a chance it won’t. So happy building!
