It’s one huge LEGO superhero event at this year’s SDCC at the San Diego Convention Center, with the LEGO brick-built statue of the Amazonian princess, Diana Prince being joined by Steve Roger’s Captain America – and when we say huge, we mean life-sized huge! CNN Money reports that the LEGO Model Shop in Enfield, Connecticut is cooking up another treat to all comic book lovers by recreating another superhero icon and giving it the exclusive LEGO Master Builders treatment.

Cap Statue

Also celebrating his 75th year in the superhero business alongside Wonder Woman, Captain America is immortalized in LEGO bricks by LEGO Master Builder Erik Varszegi and his team of LEGO craftsmen. Brainstorming on nine possible poses, Varszegi and his team took a total of 277 hours and 25,984 bricks and elements to create the 6′ 1″, 153 lbs rendition of the Star-Spangled hero. While his team worked on the rest of Cap’s statue, Varszegi worked on what he does best: the details on the statue’s head and face. He personally worked on the details of Cap’s head and face while paying special attention to some special features like the ear piece he worn in Captain America: Civil War, and the tiny hint of color green in his eyes.

LEGO’s partnership with Marvel allow Master Builders like Varszegi access to advanced screening of the films and access to their huge superhero library for research purposes. It’s the ultimate dream for any comic book geek and fans. “We have to be quiet about that, because of course we’re working on these things even before the movie is premiered so we can’t tell anybody what we see and hear behind these doors. My job is already cool as it is before, but when we started partnering with these comic book companies since… then, wow! It made my job even more fun,” he says with excitement. “It’s a dream come true.”

CW’s The Atom Joins LEGO Marvel’s Steve Rogers Captain America As This Year’s SDCC Exclusive.

ATOM mnifigure

LEGO has now officially revealed the next minifigure exclusive that will join the LEGO Steve Rogers Captain America minifigure in this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Following TLG’s reveal last week, we now have CW’s The Atom as the next DC Superhero that we’ll be featured during the Comic-Con alongside Cap. Check out the official announcement via LEGO’s official social media channels.

https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FLEGO%2Fposts%2F10153838237038403%3A0&width=500

The LEGO Atom minifigure exclusive takes hint from Ray Palmer as seen in CW’s Arrowverse. Furthermore, according to The Brick Fan, the Atom/Ray Palmer minifigure is the third character featured from the Arrowverse as the Green Arrow was given away back in 2013 and Arsenal from last year.

As you can see, the Atom minifigure also comes with a printed 4×4 plate with the words Palmer Technologies printed on it. The said minifigure will be given by LEGO when SDCC kicks off on Thursday, July 21 and Saturday, July 23 at the Pavilion Terrace starting at 12:30PM. It is estimated by Minifigure Price Guide that around 2,000 pieces of each these exclusives will be sold by LEGO during the Comic-Con, which will be valued anywhere from $150-$250 each. As of the moment, we’re seeing a lot of these minifigs being offered at eBay together with LEGO’s newly released line of Brickheadz brick-built figures.

UPDATE: A Look At The LEGO Dimensions Fun Pack Marceline The Vampire Queen (71285).

LEGO is adding more hero-sized fun to its revamped toys-to-life set with the addition of Adventure Time’s ‘wild rocker girl’, Marceline The Vampire Queen. In a recent tweet send in by LEGO Dimensions stalwart Bricks To Life, it seems that it will not take long before we see the crimson-loving Marceline travels through the LEGO Dimensions portal. The LEGO Dimensions Fun Pack Marceline The Vampire Queen (71285) will join the rest of LEGO Dimensions’ Wave 7 characters this Fall as a Toys R Us promotional exclusive, specifically on November 18. It is very likely that 71285 will be released alongside the LEGO Dimensions Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them Story Pack, considering that the J.K. Rowling film of the same title will be released early in November. Take a closer look at the image below, as found on TRU’s in-store pre-order card.

LEGO Dimensions Marceline

The fun pack comes with a Marceline minifigure together with her bright red axe bass guitar as seen in the Adventure Time animated series, and her Lunatic Amp vehicle. Here’s the official description of the LEGO Dimensions Fun Pack 71285 as posted by the Brick Inquirer.

Keep the Adventure Time party rocking in the LEGO Dimensions multiverse with Marceline the Vampire Queen! Build and place her on the LEGO Toy Pad to send her into the game with her Sonar Smash and Bolt Deflector abilities using the Marceline Axe Guitar. Activate her Telekinesis and Teleport skills to make your way through the Adventure Time Adventure World and Battle Arena. Build and use Marceline’s Lunatic Amp to make some noise, and rebuild it into the Shadow Scorpion and Heavy Metal Monster when you need even more power.

Here’s the tweet shared by Bricks To Life.

As of to date, LEGO promises a total of 16 new IPs or licenses under its LEGO Dimensions banner as revealed during this year’s E3, with Wave 6 expected to hit store shelves by September 27. Boston Red Sox Announces Partnership With The LEGO Group, With Its LEGO Day At Fenway Park.

960x540_legoday_nologo_oy8khg9y_dugxn3eg

Mark August 31 on your calendars as Red Sox just announced its latest, long overdue partnership with LEGO. Dubbed as the very first LEGO Day at Fenway Park, fans and baseball enthusiasts who will be purchasing tickets on August 31 when the Red Sox squares off with Tampa Ray Bays will be treated with a limited edition Red Sox LEGO brick built figure. Read on for the full announcement straight from RedSox.com.

The Red Sox and LEGO Systems, Inc. are proud to announce the first LEGO® Day at Fenway Park, Wednesday, August 31 at 1:35 pm when the Red Sox face the Tampa Bay Rays. The purchase of a game ticket through this special offer also includes a limited edition Red Sox themed player build, made with LEGO bricks. Additionally, this ticket package will include access to the pre-game LEGO Build Experience in the Kids Concourse from 11:00am-1:35pm – we are excited to have a LEGO Master Builder on hand to join us! During the LEGO Build Experience we will unveil a life-sized Red Sox player LEGO model for fans to see and take pictures with. Be there for this special moment as tickets are limited to the first 2,000 guests who order through this special offer.

For any questions or groups of 20+ please contact Travis Pollio at 617-226-6790 or tpollio@redsox.com.

As Brickset pointed out, this could be a start of a promising partnership with professional sports organizations, with its recent partnership with the German National Football Team and the release of the limited edition LEGO Team DFB Collectible Minifigures (71014). Historically, this is the second time that LEGO entered a deal with the Red Sox, with the first one back in 1999 where the Red Sox did a same promotional when they gave away an ultra rare Red Sox Minifigure, that now costs anywhere between $100 to $230 over at Bricklink.

A quick browse also shows that LEGO has also once released a similar sports-themed minifig series with the LEGO NBA Basketball Series back in 2003, and the LEGO Team GB Minifigures (8909) released in 2012. Frankly, there has not been a lot of sports-themed minifigures that LEGO offered, so it is will really be great if LEGO can come up with a Red Sox themed minifigure collection sometime in the future. It will be a bit of a challenge though, since Oyo Sports now has claim over the collectible sports minifigure arena with license to produce its own set of customized minifigs for major sports association in the US such as the NFL, NHL, MLB, and MLS.

We’ll see where LEGO goes with this, and be sure to get your tickets on the 31st of August to avail this exclusive treat from LEGO.

The latest Argos Catalogue from the UK has just been released and with it comes our first look at one of LEGO Dimensions Series 2 Story Pack. If you recall, Series 2 of LEGO Dimensions introduces a new Story Pack that allows you to play the complete movie, with its LEGO Dimensions Ghostbusters Story Pack (71242). This time around, Argos Catalogue reveals what it seems to be as the second LEGO Dimensions Story Pack that will be made available in November just in time for the film’s release in November 11. Here are some of the images from the said catalogue courtesy of Brickfans.

As you can see, the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Story Pack includes what seems to be the Magical Congress of the United States of America LEGO Dimensions gateway, and the minifigures of Newt Scamander and Niffler. Similar to the Ghostbusters Story Pack, Fantasic Beasts will let you play throughout the movie’s story with some voices and quotes from the original film. It will retail in the UK for £39.99 which is around $49.99 in the US. We hope to see more updates anytime soon, especially that retailers are already in the loop.

Thanks to Brickfans for the heads-up.

LEGO is becoming more and more generous with their reveals as we inch closer to one of the biggest comic book fan conventions on the face of the planet. As it seems, LEGO will mark this year’s San Diego Comic-Con with a tribute to one of the most iconic DC superhero of all time who is also celebrating her 75th anniversary, alongside Marvel’s Captain America. If Steve Rogers is given the LEGO treatment by having his very own Captain America SDCC exclusive minifigure, the Amazonian Princess, Diana Prince will certainly blow you away with her life-size LEGO brick-built statue which will be one of the highlights of the LEGO Group during the Comic-Con. Here’s LEGO’s official announcement via its Facebook page.

Standing at an impressive 6’1” tall, this build was created using 22,736 LEGO bricks and elements and weighs in at 138 pounds. The LEGO master builders behind this awesome statue took a total of 99 hours to come up with the design, and additional 218 hours to build. Take a look at these photos of Wonder Woman’s brick-built statue courtesy of The Wall Street Journal, followed by a cool, time-lapse video of how it is built.

In similar news, another monumental figure will be placed on exhibit at this year’s SDCC straight from the world of the Masters of Spinjutzu. LEGO Ninjago’s Jay Walker will also have his brick-built statue for the Comic-Con as announced by LEGO earlier last month.

Jay’s statue comes in at almost 3x times more LEGO bricks than that of Wonder Woman’s though it stands lower at 4’3”. Made up of a total 64,148 LEGO bricks and elements, these magnificent build took a total of 345 hours, or 43 working days, to complete.

Meet The Blockiest LEGO Superheroes Around With These 2016 SDCC Brickheadz Exclusive.

With less than a week away from the annual San Diego Comic-Con starting on July 21, LEGO reveals just keep on pouring in. As we mentioned before, The LEGO Group seems to be giving more attention to its LEGO Superheroes line-up as revealed with their latest Mighty Micro sets, LEGO has now announced via their Facebook page a new collectible that will also make its way in this year’s SDCC.

According to LEGO’s Facebook page, these BrickHeadz versions of DC’s Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman and the Joker, including Marvel’s Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain America, and Iron Man will only be available during the SDCC, and with other sets to be offered later on next year. If you noticed, LEGO’s choice on choosing these eight brick-built superheroes is based primarily on this year’s most successful and highly anticipated films: Captain America: Civil War, Batman VS Superman, and the upcoming Doctor Strange and Suicide Squad films. If you’re raring to have your hands on this new LEGO offering, but will eventually not attend this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, then fret not. LEGO is running a contest where you can have a chance to win any of these LEGO Brickheadz SDCC exclusives by following them on Twitter @LEGO_Group or hashtag #LEGOSDCC.

As pointed out by Brickset, these Brickheadz looks very similar to what LEGO has offered in the past with its SDCC 2010 LEGO Star Wars CubeDude exclusives. Here’s a closer look at this initial BrickHeadz line, and the days in which they will be offered during the course of the Comic-Con. These limited- edition, and one-run only LEGO BrickHeadz building sets will retail at $40.00 and will be offered at the SDCC LEGO Booth.

WATCH: Stephen Reviews the LEGO Creator Volkswagen (10252).

10252_Box1_v39

Starting tomorrow, LEGO VIP members can now get their hands on LEGO’s latest offering that celebrates one of the most iconic vehicles of all time: the LEGO Creator Volkswagen Beetle (10252). Ahead of its public offering, Stephen gives us a tour on the finer details of this set which comes at 1,167 predominantly dark azure pieces. If you missed out on the hi-resolution, close up images of the 10252 from our last month’s report, you might want to check out its photos right here.

Watch the video below highlighting Stephen’s review of the LEGO Creator Volkswagen Beetle including some of its nice play features.

The dark azure color motif of the 10252 is visually appealing, complemented by its nicely detailed interior and exquisitely curved design. Highly popular in the 60s, the Volkswagen Beetle was an icon for the surf-loving crowd. LEGO recreates that nostalgic feeling of the great surfin’ life back in the day as accentuated by its accessories such as a cooler with all of the nice contents inside, a beach towel, and a yellow and white surf board.

10252_Prod

Other than its play features, the LEGO Creator Volkswagen Beetle also boasts of a unique LEGO element which is introduced for the first time in this set. As pointed out by Brickset, this brand new piece is a ¼ circle piece used for the Beetle’s fenders and wheel arches. It has an official name of ¼ ARCH BRICK 5X5 W/ CUT OUT and comes in a dark azure color. Take a look at the photo below courtesy of Brickset.

24599_00 24599_01

Other than this new element, 10252 is also one of those rare LEGO sets that use a predominantly dark azure color scheme. In fact, as much as 30% of the set is made up of this color, as pointed out by Mike Psiaki – the designer behind 10252. The current LEGO rendition of the Volkswagen is also much different from an earlier version back in 2008 with the LEGO Volkswagen 10187. The previous version was a little rough and jagged in its design unlike the more recent take of 10252 that features a Studs-Not-On-Top (SNOT) approach in building, giving it a smoother, sleeker, more curvaceous look. Just compare these pictures below, with the 10252 on the right, and its older cousin the 10187 on the left.

Hail HYDRA! This Year’s SDCC LEGO Minifigure Exclusive Is…

LEGO Steve Rogers - Copy

Last week, we joined in the guessing game of figuring out what is this year’s exclusive San Diego Comic-Con LEGO minifigure. We already have a hint from fan forums and other LEGO enthusiasts that the two most likely candidates are DC Comic’s Atom as he is seen from the CW Network, and Steve Rogers in his latest Captain America costume and shield. The latter took its inspiration from Marvel Comic’s ‘shocking’ new take on the character of the most revered American super soldier who turns out to be a HYDRA double-agent operative. SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t read the comics yet, I highly recommend that you do so before diving into the details of these exclusive minifigures. We also reported that a handful of LEGO minifigure knockoffs have been circulating around eBay claiming to be the Atom and Captain America HYDRA minifigs, and we’re glad that the real thing is far from how these bootlegs look like.

Now the guessing game has ‘officially’ ended with LEGO revealing one of the two minifigures that it will offer as San Diego Comic-Con exclusives. Over it social media channels, namely on Facebook and Twitter, LEGO announced (and confirmed) that Steve Roger’s Captain America is this year’s SDCC exclusive. Take a look.

https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FLEGO%2Fposts%2F10153823682993403%3A0&width=500

We have no details yet on the exact time or schedule when this exclusive minifig will be given away, but The Brick Fan reports that there will be a minifigure given away for each day of the SDCC specifically at the Pavilion Terrace at 12:30PM. The good thing is that LEGO assured fans who cannot attend the San Diego Comic-Con that they still have a chance of owning this Steve Rogers Captain America minifig by following them at Twitter via #LEGOSDCC.

As of now, we haven’t heard any confirmation from LEGO regarding their LEGO Atom minifigure SDCC exclusive. We’ll keep you posted as new info comes in, so be sure to stay tuned here at the Brick Show!
