Some Rumors About the Summer 2018 LEGO Disney and Friends Sets.

This was just out courtesy of BrickFanatics: It seems that LEGO has more great surprises in store for the summer of 2018. These come in some possible new sets for two of their product lineups, that of their Disney tie-ins as well as for the girls-oriented LEGO Friends label.

We’ve already done a coverage of the latest LEGO Friends sets coming out early next year, and those sets as well as the LEGO Disney ones are already available on shop.LEGO.com, and eventually, LEGO has some nifty follow-up ideas that will be making their debut several months later on in 2018.

The LEGO Disney additions for summer 2018 is fairly small, but quite in tune with the latest trends. Reportedly they are two sets based on Tangled: The Series, based on the ongoing Disney channel TV series spinoff of the 2010 animated film. The series is highly praised for its engaging storyline and typical Disney humor, as well as retaining its primary voice talents, Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi.

As for LEGO Friends, rumor has it that it will be receiving a subtheme of its own. There’s not a lot of info regarding that, other than it might involve certain elements of go-kart racing, with the all-girl Friends cast getting into the thick of fast-paced action on various cars and racing sets. In addition, certain other LEGO Friends sets will have life-sized accessories, such as a microphone shaped like a mobile phone.

All in all they sound like  a lot of things to look out for when you’re a LEGO Disney or LEGO Friends collector. We’ll have to wait until 2018 comes to get more concrete information.

Summer 2018 LEGO Ninjago Set Details Revealed.

Ok, I promise to be a bit moderate with these reveals (aka leaks) for now. After the reveal of the LEGO Ideas Ship in a Bottle (21313), the 2018 Summer LEGO Technic sets, and the uber cool LEGO Creator Roller Coaster (31084), here comes another collection of LEGO sets to watch out for in June, 2018. Frankly, this has been floating around the Internet for quite some time and thanks to various sources, we now have a somewhat better idea of what to expect from the Summer LEGO Ninjago Masters of Spinjitzu sets next year. Please pardon me for the deliberately horrendous blurred images; but if you’re already in the know, then I’m sure you wouldn’t mind seeing them like this.

Similar to the spinners which are essentially part of the LEGO Ninjago Masters of Spinjitzu theme, LEGO opted to have a rehash of these spinners and give them a dragon master twist. The box art for set numbers 70644 to 70649 seems to suggest that these spinners will somehow include a vertical flying play feature which is kind of cool for a LEGO set. Please take this with a pinch of salt since this is just my observation based on my initial impression on the design of the box art and in keeping up with the dragon storyline with LEGO Ninjago’s Season 9.

It is also interesting to note that the grayed out box for set 70657 is rumored to be another D2C LEGO Ninjago Movie set similar in scale to the grandiose LEGO Ninjago City (70620). Again, these are just speculations given set 70657’s predicted price point, however, things might be different once LEGO gives their official statement. Lastly, bear in mind that these are preliminary titles so chances are LEGO might revise the names of these sets as they see it fit.

Master of the Golden Dragon (70644) – Expected retail price: $14.99

Cole Master of Dragons (70645) – Expected retail price: $14.99

2018 LEGO Ninjago Pods Revealed.

It seems that we’re getting our first wave of 2018 LEGO minifigure pods quite early. Just recently, LEGO has uploaded via its servers, several official images of 2018’s LEGO Ninjago Masters Spinjitzu Sons of Garmadon Jay (853758) and Cole (853759) Dojo Pods. If you recall, we have our first LEGO Ninjago Dojo Pod with a Kai minifigure (5004916) last July, and it seems that LEGO is adding more characters to these collectible line of minifigs.

As you can see from the official images below, these pods come in blister type packaging, with each pod featuring a prominent lenticular sticker that shows the character’s ninja mask and designated element. The inside of the pods also features a kendo helmet, training accessories and signature weapons. It should be noted that though Jay and Cole may have the same minifigure torso and legs, the prints on them are new to these series. Frankly, I hope that their actual minifigs are different from one another in terms of color scheme. That will be better and adds more variety to them.

LEGO Ninjago Masters Spinjitzu Sons of Garmadon Jay Pod (853758)

LEGO Ninjago Masters Spinjitzu Sons of Garmadon Cole Pod (853759)

Given that we already have their official images uploaded, we can expect these pods to appear at shop.LEGO.com and in LEGO Brand Stores anytime soon, with a retail price of $8.99 each.

Cartoon Network Announces “Unikitty” Animated Series Premiere Dates.

Remember back in October when Cartoon Network showed special previews of a new LEGO (2D) animated series starring Princess Unikitty, the Master Builder unicorn-cat-thingy from The LEGO Movie of 2014? As we reported before, they were but a taste of a full cartoon series about Unikitty and her friends that’s slated to premiere next year.

That was all the information given back then. No specific date as to when Cartoon Network will start up the Unikitty! series in 2018; but not anymore. CN just issued a statement revealing the premiere of the “fun-fun-fun” LEGO animated cartoon series. They mean to have it kick off with another special airing on the first day of the year, January 1 itself.

What’s more, this special Unikitty! showing is not just one, but six new episodes, aired every hour starting 6AM (ET/PT). The episode titles released thus far are: “Action Forest,” “Kaijuu Kitty,” “Fire & Nice,” “Rock Friend,” “Kitchen Chaos” and “Crushing Defeat.” Here are brief descriptions of each episode as mentioned in Turner Broadcasting’s official press release via BrickFanz.

6:00 a.m. (ET/PT): “Action Forest” – Hawkodile is the toughest action hero in the land, until his old rival shows up to take vengeance on him. Defeated and in need of help, Hawkodile must train Unikitty and the others into super muscle?y tough bros. And there’s only one place unstoppable warriors are made, the Action Forest.

7:00 a.m. (ET/PT): “Kaiju Kitty” – When a giant monster attacks the Unikingdom, the gang fights back with Dr. Fox’s awesome new secret weapon: a massive mega robot!

8:00 a.m. (ET/PT): “Fire & Nice” – When Master Frown causes Unikitty to have an angry outburst that gets a little too destructive, she wishes her Rage Kitty side wasn’t part of her anymore. Thanks to a new Dr. Fox invention, she gets her wish.

9:00 a.m. (ET/PT): “Rock Friend” – Unikitty discovers Puppycorn’s only other friend is a boring old rock. Encouraged to “make more friends,” Puppycorn takes her advice and decides to literally make a new friend out of the best parts of his friends.

10:00 a.m. (ET/PT): “Kitchen Chaos” – After a workplace injury, Richard is unable to do his servant work. Unikitty and the others take on the task of one simple chore, clean the kitchen. This incredibly boring task taxes our heroes as they find every way possible to not do it.

11:00 a.m. (ET/PT): “Crushing Defeat” – When Hawkodile develops a secret crush on Dr. Fox, he finds himself actually crushing down in size! Unikitty and the gang become his love gurus to help him confess his feelings before he shrinks away into nothing.

Once the special January 1 airing is done with, the Unikitty! series starts off for real on Friday, January 5. More new episodes of the show will air on Cartoon Network every Friday afterwards, at 6:30PM (ET/PT).

Unikitty! chronicles the adventures of the titular Princess Unikitty (Tara Strong) of Cloud Cuckoo Land, first seen in The LEGO Movie. Here’s the title theme again (performed by Babymetal) so you can get into it.

The series focuses on her everyday life and challenges in running her kingdom, looking after her brother Puppycorn (Grey Griffin), and venting her hidden rage at anybody messing with the positive vibes in her land – like villain Master Frown (Eric Bauza) – with the help of her allies Dr. Fox (Kate Miccuci), Hawkodile and Richard (both Roger Craig Smith).

Marvel HQ Presents All Episodes of “Marvel LEGO: Guardians of the Galaxy – The Thanos Threat”.

Back in May, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 came out in cinemas courtesy of Marvel Studios, engaging fans anew in another adventure with the intergalactic mercenaries set to awesome oldie music. A couple months later, in July’s D23 Expo, Marvel announced another collaboration with LEGO for a special animated miniseries. The two companies are old hands in this sort of cross-promotion after all, like below.

Said special was to be entitled Marvel LEGO: Guardians of the Galaxy – The Thanos Threat. A few months after that, apparently, no word has come out on whether or not the miniseries has already started showing. As it turns out, The Thanos Threat actually is showing now.

That’s because the Marvel LEGO miniseries is currently uploaded as videos in the Marvel HQ channel on YouTube. The first episode was actually put up last month, November 24. And the reason we’re covering this now is because the fifth and final episode of The Thanos Threat was uploaded last Saturday, December 9.

Now fans of Marvel and LEGO can enjoy this awesome yet quirky animation in the LEGO style online, because apparently Marvel isn’t putting these up on actual TV channels like Disney XD anytime soon.

Do note however that Marvel LEGO: Guardians of the Galaxy – The Thanos Threat has not been made available in all countries around the world. If you can watch the videos below, then have fun!

2018 LEGO Catalogue Reveals Latest LEGO Elves Sets.

Though we still have a couple of weeks to go before the 2018 LEGO Catalogue is released in the US, LEGO fans in the Ukraine had an early glimpse of what we can expect from the said catalogue. They may not have the same prominence like those enjoyed by more popular themes such as City, Superheroes, or Star Wars, nevertheless LEGO Elves have produced some of the most visually stunning sets that I have ever seen. Now, thanks to the Ukrainian 2018 LEGO Catalogue (which you can download here), we now have a glimpse on the next magically colorful Elves sets that LEGO has to offer.

As of Brickset’s listing, we have five LEGO Elves sets slated for 2018, namely:

  • Emily Jones’ Eagle Escape (41190)
  • Naida and the Sea Turtle (41191)
  • Azari and the Capture of the Pound Lion (41192)
  • Aira and the Wind Song Dragon (41193)
  • The Noctura Tower and the Rescue of the Earth Fox (41194)

We still yet to see the official images for these abovementioned sets, but for the meantime, check out these sets as revealed in the 2018 LEGO Catalogue. These next wave of LEGO Elves sets are expected to be released in April.

New LEGO Powerpuff Girls Sets Reported Coming in 2018.

Last month, LEGO definitively announced the end of the line for the related sets and minifigure packs tied to the multiplatform toys-to-life videogame LEGO Dimensions by WB Interactive and Traveller’s Tales. It was a sad development, with the promise of regular product releases over three years ending about one year short.

The LEGO Dimensions line was chock-full of sets and minifigures depicting a wide variety of licensed properties, one of them being the Powerpuff Girls (minifigure pack 71346 for one). These products were plenty nifty while they lasted, and apparently LEGO agrees enough that they might get more sets coming out next year.

Even outside of LEGO Dimensions, the Cartoon Network-originating animated series still looks to be getting a lot of love from LEGO themselves. YouTube channel just2good broke the news about rumors that new LEGO Powerpuff Girls sets will be on their way come 2018.

Two sets were revealed by name: Bubbles’ Playground Showdown (41287) and Mojo Jojo Strikes (41288). Whether the designs for these characters will hew closer to the original 1990’s series run, or to the rather divisive reboot that started in 2016 instead, time will tell.

2018 LEGO Ninjago Box Art Images Released.

It looks like Swiss online toy store World of Games is on a roll. After the reveal of the latest LEGO Star Wars sets slated for release at the end of this year, it has updated its database once more to include several, new LEGO box art images. We saw the official set images for 2018’s LEGO Ninjago sets a few weeks back, and now, we have images of its respective box art. What interest me the most is the new characters included in the Temple of Resurrection (70643), which also happens to be the largest set in the series. These latest box art images from LEGO Ninjago comes in a predominantly red and black color scheme which is a bit hard on the eyes in my opinion, with LEGO using two dark colors to convey a subtle, sinister plot in the upcoming Season 8 of the TV Series entitled, Sons of Garmadon. Check these out.

Katana V11 (70638)

Street Race of Snake Jaguar (70639)

S.O.G. Headquarters (70640)

Ninja Nightcrawler (70641)

Killow vs. Samurai X (70642)

End-2017 Retiring LEGO Marvel Helicarrier (76042) Set Already Gone on UK LEGO Shop@Home

When movie audiences saw it for the first time in Marvel’s The Avengers back in 2012, the airborne SHIELD Helicarrier was a thing of beauty, a remarkably feasible-looking design of how a flying aircraft carrier would look like built in our world. Since then, the wondrous flying vessels would figure in two more MCU movies (and cameo unnamed in Fox’s “Deadpool”).

But somehow the awe once commanded by the Helicarrier has long faded, and much quickly than they did in the original Marvel Comics versions. Life imitates art; or rather, merchandise imitates media, since LEGO put their SHIELD Helicarrier set (76042) on their end-2017 retiree list back in July.

In fact, the Hellicarrier 76042 is now officially retired for British LEGO buyers, as they can see for themselves in their LEGO UK Shop@Home. For the stateside version, Shop@Home US says that the Helicarrier is currently sold out due to being a highly sought-after set in LEGO VIP’s Black Friday promo.

Outside of the LEGO Shop, LEGO Marvel fans might still be able to snag 76042 on Amazon, at its regular retail price in Prime Shipping. Of course, going by that option means your Helicarrier purchase will get no LEGO points and additional promo giveaways. Still, it at least ensures you’ll have the best of SHIELD in the MCU before the end of 2017, when the set really will say goodbye for good.

The LEGO Marvel SHIELD Helicarrier (76042) runs almost 3,000 pieces with five minifigures included. There’s been no word if Shop@Home US will restock their set or mark it as retired just like in the UK. It’s too bad; while Agents of SHIELD will start its season 5 on ABC this December, the agency has not been relevant in the MCU film corner for so long.
