It is bound to happen: Microsoft’s Xbox has announced on its website the release of yet another LEGO Star Wars video game, and this time it claims that “The Force is strong with this one.” Riding on the recent success of its two-billion-dollar movie counterpart, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if LEGO announces the release of the LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens video game to keep the force moving.
Developed by UK-based TT Games, the LEGO Star Wars line-up has already made a distinct brand for itself, with endearing features and gameplay that are all too familiar to the fans of the series. True to its form, it promises the same light, but exquisitely challenging game modes, immersive shooting action, and of course tons of virtual bricks to collect and to build ships and props from the Star Wars franchise. Not to mention the comedic antic’s of their minifig counterparts that are sure to draw laughter from children and adults alike. Xbox players may choose to follow either the light or dark side of the force by taking the roles of Rey, Finn, Poe, BB-8, Kylo Ren, Han Solo, and the rest of the characters from the movie. I guess it is safe to assume that we’ll be seeing all of the characters featured in the game’s cover art at some point of the game. Watch the video game’s trailer below:
Though all of these may sound standard fare for all LEGO-based video games, Xbox promises a different take on LEGO’s The Force Awakens storyline. This time, the game will feature “exclusive playable content that bridges the story gap between Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” as mentioned at the Xbox website. This is sure to gather more interest among gamers as they’re treated with unexpected twists and turns during the transition from Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, and Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
But the best promise of immersive gaming experience may actually come from the various game modes that come along with LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. For the first time ever, TT Games introduces the Multi-Build and Blaster Battles modes in the game’s line-up. “With Multi-Builds, use available LEGO bricks to open up new paths, then break them apart and re-build them again to open up another! And another! During Blaster Battles, use your surroundings as cover to stand against the First Order,” as Xbox describes it. We hope that the Blaster Battles will also include a network-based, free for all and coop gameplay.
Well, we can dream all we want, but for the meantime, we just have to wait for around five months before we can actually grab a copy and pound once again on our controllers. For now, this leaked promotional video might give us a laugh or two. I guess even under his intimidating mask, Kylo Ren may have a chuckle or two when his lightsaber’s hilt needed several taps before he can get it to work right.
LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is scheduled to be released on June 28, 2016. The last LEGO-based game to be launched recently was Marvel’s Avengers on January 26.
Telltale Games recently revealed their latest trailer for the impending release of the “LEGO Marvel Avengers” video game. Unlike Telltale’s previous LEGO Marvel game, this game revolves around the events of the various films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Highlights of the new trailer included several locations from most of the MCU’s films, and the ability to play as several characters who have yet to receive their own film; some of the trailer’s footage show Wasp flying around the streets and skyscrapers of New York and Cap’s buddy Falcon coming in from a landing to join a debriefing.
Like most major game releases, LEGO Marvel Avengers has a bonus for those LEGO or MCU fans whom are already willing to buy the game. Anyone who preorders the game with video game retail chain GameStop will receive a minifigure of Iron Man Mk. XXXIII, also known as the “Silver Centurion.”
Over the last few days, a few images have been released by Lego, showing multiple mini figures (such as WyldStyle, Gandalf and Batman) in front of a blue portal with the hashtag #BreakTheRules. We had no idea what this meant…until now.
Earlier today, an official announcement regarding this has been released, saying that these images were regarding a new game to be released on September 27th : LEGO Dimensions!
The game will be similar to that of popular titles such as Skylanders, where minifigures are placed on to some sort of interactive plate, causing a virtual version of said minifigure to appear in-game. The starter pack will feature a buildable portal along with a Batmobile mini build, Batman, Wyldstyle and Gandalf figures. Additional packs containing Ninjago, Back To The Future, Lord Of The Rings and The Wizard Of Oz characters will be sold separately.
Fun Packs will include a figure and a vehicle, a Team Pack contains 2 figures and their vehicles and a Level Pack contains a figure, a vehicle and an additional level.
What do you think of these new sets? I for one think the idea is great, but not at those prices! since these games are gonna be aimed at TFOLS and kids, I can tell you no one will want to spend that much!
