USA Today gives us a first look at some of the major characters that will join the Caped Crusader in his very first solo-titled movie, The LEGO Batman Movie. Last April, we were intrigued by the Warner Bros Animation Group’s (WAG) take on the origin of Batman’s sidekick, Robin. Will Arnett, the voice behind the beat-boxing, crime-fighting hero of Gotham, together with producers Chris Miller and Phil Lord revealed an exclusive, never-before-seen teaser during this year’s CinemaCon. As seen from the teaser, Robin turns out to be Batman’s ‘accidental’ adopted son named Dick Grayson (voiced by Michael Cera) whom he met at a charity auction. Here are some photos of the Boy Wonder in all his googly eyed glory.
Eventually, it was not only Robin who made his debut, but we also have a look at a re-imagined, minifigure Joker who never fails to wreck havoc in Gotham. Joker seems to make fun of the Dark Knight as Batman chases him along the streets with Harley Quinn at the wheel, thinking that he can outrun him, ever proving to himself and Batman that he is the most annoying villain that the Bat ever encountered. “The Joker sees himself on the same level as Batman, a peer, at the top of the game,” director Chris McKay says. “But Batman says that’s not the case, which sends Joker into a spiral trying to prove to Batman that he is indeed the greatest enemy.”
USA Today also reports that a brand new trailer for the LEGO Batman Movie is set to debut during this week’s San Diego Comic-Con. We might see more of the bubbly Boy Wonder once again, plus a mother load of references and cameos of previous Batman films, comics, and other renditions. In case you missed it, here’s the official trailers of The LEGO Batman movie, which is scheduled to hit theaters on February 9, 2017.
