This piece of news comes as a very nice surprise. Toys N Bricks pointed out an eBay listing where we find a polybag (promotional?) offering of a LEGO Star Wars Mini R2-D2 Buildable Minifigure. It has a set number of 30611 and features a nicely detailed version of the iconic Star Wars droid. The eBay listing has ended already, with the polybag selling for an insane price of $99.99 USD. However, it seems that there are more sightings of this newest polybag craze with Minifigure Price Guide pointing out to another eBay listing of the said polybag set. It is unclear when and where this polybag came out since the eBay listing has been quite shy about its origins. It is understandable why this polybag is such a big hit since this is the only buildable set of R2 that comes in a smaller size – the other one being the massive 2,100-piece LEGO Star Wars UCS R2-D2 (10225). If ever it is a promotional set as Brickset has listed it, then it is interesting to see how it will fit in the overall scheme of things, or even if it is attached to any major LEGO Star Wars promotion at all. Last year we had the LEGO Star Wars Escape the Space Slug (6176782) promotional set which were given exclusively and by invitation only to several VIP members during the May the 4th LEGO Store event. So it will not be a long shot to consider the same arrangement for this latest Star Wars polybag offering. Well, we can only speculate at this point.
