LEGO Ideas Spotlight: the “Will & Grace & LEGO” LEGO Ideas Project

Advertisements

The LEGO Creator Expert Aston Martin DB5 (10262) set may be based on a spy-car laden with weapons and gadgets and lots of fast-paced violence, but nonetheless, the set itself comes across as an impressive build worthy to be compared to other impressive LEGO Creator Expert sets. LEGO does have regulations on the level of content they want from licensed franchises. But this recent proposal on LEGO Ideas platform is of a potentially mature kind and of a different sort – the LEGO Ideas project Will & Grace & LEGO.

Some three months ago, NBC aired the season finale of the revived sitcom starring the most recognizable gay-hetero besties on TV, Will & Grace. Australian fan Mark Fitzpatrick was then inspired to conceptualize a set idea which eventually evolved to the Will & Grace & LEGO project based on the show.

Listed under his Ideas username SeeMarkGeek, the “Will & Grace & LEGO” set proposal is a remarkable recreation of the sitcom’s primary set location. That is, of course, the well-appointed apartment of gay corporate lawyer Will Truman (Eric McCormack), with interior designer and old friend Grace Adler (Debra Messing) as his roommate.

Not only is the set detail accurate to the show (no fourth wall for the audience and everything), the minifigures of Will and Grace, and their friends Karen and Jack, are marvelously designed.

SeeMarkGeek’s product proposal for LEGO Ideas comes across as really pushing the envelope on what franchises LEGO could render on their various sets and polybags. Will & Grace may not be violent, but its fame as a sitcom and cast of controversial characters raises the same questions that the first hints of a James Bond set did last month. At present the LEGO Ideas Project Will & Grace & LEGO has over 300 supporters. Let us see how far that goes in future. As for Ideas proposals up for review, there are now four for the 2018 Second Stage.

More at SDCC 2018: Unikitty! New Episode Premiere and Q & A Panel

Advertisements

We’re literally counting the remaining days before the 2018 San Diego Comic Con kicks off. For those who are lucky to be going there among the LEGO fandom, there are already a whole lot of awesome things in store. From an advance screening of LEGO DC Super Heroes: Aquaman – Rage of Atlantis, to a panel for LEGO Ninjago, and one for the LEGO DC Super Villains game, it’s all there. But more is still in store. Following in the heels of the production team and voice talent for LEGO Ninjago showing up in their panel, the team for Unikitty! is also getting a Q&A portion. Unlike with Ninjago though, Unikitty! is nebulous on who among the show-runners and cast they’ll have appearing for the Q&A.

Said portion will come following a live screening of the latest episode in the Unikitty! series on Cartoon Network. The Q&A might also be a good time for SDCC attendees to ask about what role Unikitty might play in the plot of 2019’s The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. Here’s a complete description of SDCC 2018 Unikitty! panel.

Your favorite character from The LEGO Movie, Unikitty, is bringing her joyous kingdom to Comic-Con! Make sure to bring plenty of sparkle matter, positive vibes, and all your questions; producers and members of the voice cast will be on hand to share a new episode and answer your questions.

The Unikitty! new episode showing, and the post-screening Q&A panel with yet unspecified producers and voice cast, will take place on Saturday, July 21, the penultimate day for the San Diego Comic Con. In the meantime, several LEGO Unikitty! sets are already up in shop.LEGO.com ahead of their arriving at stores this coming August 1.

LEGO Creator Expert (10262) Aston Martin DB5 Parts Teased

Advertisements

Just like clockwork, LEGO has released another teaser on their upcoming LEGO Creator Expert (10262) Aston Martin DB5 set. The said teaser was released via LEGO’s official social media channels both in Facebook and Twitter. As we count the days before July 18 during the set’s big reveal at the LEGO Store in Leicester Square in London, LEGO has now given us a glimpse on the two of the four wheels of the Aston Martin DB5.

The wheels were creatively used in replacing the iconic zeros on the call sign of the world’s most famous secret agent. There is not so much to see with these parts since the wheels are quite common, accentuated by a shuriken piece. It may not be that much since personally, I would rather see the entire set rather than its bits and pieces. And in case you don’t know yet, the image of the LEGO Creator Expert (10262) Aston Martin DB5 is now making its rounds over social media. If you are really raring to see this ahead of its July 18 release date (and wouldn’t mind the spoilers), the right search phrase and just a few clicks is all that you need. I’ll talk more about it in my next post.

For now, try to enjoy this pair of wheels as much as you can.

Meet the Talents Behind the LEGO DC Super-Villains Video Game at SDCC 2018

Advertisements

Here’s another great reason to attend the San Diego Comic Con this year. According to the event’s official programming schedule, TT Games, the game developer behind the anticipated LEGO DC Super-Villains video game, will be hosting a meet-the-talent panel where TT Games main man (aka Head of Design) Arthur Parsons will be on the spotlight to share to comic-con attendees an inside look on how the game was developed. Since its grand debut during last month’s E3 where we get to see a glimpse of its live gameplay at that time, the upcoming LEGO DC Super-Villains: Meet the Talent Behind the Video Game panel will focus on LEGO’s first “villain-centric” video game adventure.

Arthur Parsons will be joined by fan-favorite Batman voice actor, Kevin Conroy. SDCC is a bit tight-lipped on the rest of game’s voice cast especially the one who will give life to the Joker once the game is made available on October 16. So we’ll just have to wait what surprises LEGO and TT Games have in store by then. Other than the Joker, SDCC is a great venue for other game character reveals, such as their approach in promoting the LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 last year.

Though there was no mention of any LEGO freebies for attendees of the panel, it is very likely that LEGO has a surprise gift or prize tucked somewhere. The LEGO DC Super-Villains video game is now available for pre-order, with its Deluxe Edition featuring an exclusive Lex Luthor minifigure. Here’s a complete description of what to expect from the SDCC 2018 panel, followed by a video gameplay footage from Brandon Jones during last June’s E3.

The team behind the LEGO DC Super-Villains videogame, including Arthur Parsons (head of design, TT Games) and fan-favorite Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy, give an inside look at the first LEGO game to put players at the center of a villain-centric adventure packed with favorite locations and characters from across the DC Universe. This celebration of villainy will provide fans with exciting character reveals and details about the story. Players have the ability to create and play as a super-villain throughout LEGO DC Super-Villains, unleashing mischievous antics and wreaking havoc in an action-packed, hilarious story written in collaboration with DC Comics. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and The LEGO Group will release the game on October 16.

LEGO Ninjago Panel to be Featured Once More at SDCC 2018: No Mention of Any New Season for the TV Show

Advertisements

LEGO Ninjago has always made its presence known at San Diego Comic Cons and this year is no less different. Almost like an annual tradition, the LEGO Ninjago panel is expected to be a part of SDCC 2018’s programming in which LEGO fans can likewise enjoy.

Slated on the last day of the comic book convention on July 22, the LEGO Ninjago panel will include the show’s co-creator and veteran producer Tommy Andreasen, LEGO Senior Design Manager Michael Svane Knap, Lead Writer Bragi Schut, and voice talents Brent Miller (the person behind the Zane’s voice), Kelly Metzger (voice of Nya), and Vincent Tong (voice of Kai). The panel will be moderated/hosted by Brian Bowler from the LEGO Group.

Traditionally, the LEGO Ninjago panel shares and discuss the details of where the franchise is heading for the following year. However, the panel’s official description is not really clear about this, and instead states that they will “talk about their favorite memories and other reflections on creating LEGO’s longest running and most successful show.” Is this a sign of things to come? Are we about to see the end of yet another LEGO TV show? Though these are just speculations, it is kind of hard not to consider this possibility since there has been no indication or rumor of any future LEGO Ninjago sets except for an anonymous source that claims across some LEGO fan forums that LEGO is planning to have a re-release of some sort of its previous LEGO Ninjago sets.

The Fire Temple (2507) from 2011.
The Earth Dragon Defense (2509) from 2011.

If I will correlate that with what we can expect from LEGO Ninjago panel in this year’s SDCC, could it really be possible that in keeping up with their “favorite memories” of the long-standing TV show, they will also make mention of the LEGO Ninjago sets that are most memorable to them and hence, an announcement of a “re-release” of these sets? Is not really far-fetched if you consider the circumstances. But bear in mind that these are just speculations, and whatever is the case we just have to wait until July 22 to see what LEGO has in store. The San Diego Comic Con 2018 will be from July 19 to 22 and is attended by thousands of pop culture fans, and home for exclusive merchandise such as LEGO sets and minifigures that you can never find anywhere else.

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Aquaman: Rage of Atlantis to Screen for SDCC 2018 Attendees Before Home Video Release

Advertisements

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Aquaman: Rage of Atlantis is the latest installment of the LEGO-WB Animation collaboration 3D animated film series. Unlike its cinematic counterpart, The LEGO Batman Movie, where LEGO partners with Warner Animation Group (WAG) instead, these LEGO DC superhero adventures are home-video or digital only.

But if you’re a LEGO/DC fan wondering what it must feel like to watch LEGO Aquaman with a theater crowd, you might be in luck if you’re planning to attend the 2018 San Diego Comic Con. That’s because there’s a panel for the movie and it’s going to be shown.

After LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes – Aquaman: Rage of Atlantis is screened in advance at the SDCC, there will be a post-showing panel with some of the film’s voice talent and the production heads to answer fan questions about the movie. The major cool factor for those con attendees who make the screening is that they’re also giving away the exclusive LEGO DCSH minifigure of the Jessica Cruz Green Lantern, the same one that’s included in the DVD/Blu-Ray boxes for LEGO Aquaman: Rage of Atlantis.

The film finds LEGO Aquaman facing a crisis of confidence in his rule as King of Atlantis following attacks by the Red Lanterns led by Atrocitus. But with the perspective gained by a journey he makes away from home, and the help of his friends in the Justice League, Aquaman may yet prove himself as King of the Seven Seas.

The SDCC Rage of Atlantis Screening and Post-Showing Panel will be on Sunday July 22, 2018 1:45-3:30pm in Room 6BCF. Amazon is currently offering this home video for pre-order so you may want to check this out as well.

In LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Aquaman – Rage of Atlantis, the King of Atlantis must make some difficult decisions to ensure the future of his ocean realm. Under attack from Atrocitus and the Red Lanterns, Aquaman realizes he must relinquish his sovereignty and go on a journey to regain his confidence before returning to his rightful throne. Along the way, Aquaman reunites with the Justice League – including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and newest member Jessica Cruz/Green Lantern – to conquer Atlantis’ latest enemy and reemerge as the ruler of the Seven Seas.

Thanks to The Brick Fan for the heads up.

LEGO Reveals Its First SDCC 2018 Exclusive Minifigure: Sheriff Deadpool

Advertisements

As we count the days before this year’s San Diego Comic Con, LEGO has now revealed its first exclusive LEGO minifigure to grace the occasion. Revealed via Twitter eventually, it looks like LEGO fans can’t have too much of the Merc with the mouth. The Sheriff Deadpool is this year’s SDCC 2018 LEGO Marvel Super Heroes exclusive minifigure, which probably takes its cue from the recent film sequel.

For the record, last year’s SDCC saw another Deadpool-inspired minifigure which is the Deadpool Duck, as part of the marketing hype for the LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 video game at that time. As far as this latest minifig iteration of Deadpool is concerned, everything about it is pretty exclusive. The SDCC 2018 LEGO Sheriff Deadpool minifigure comes with a whole set of different prints as compared to the very rare Deadpool minifig found in 2012’s Wolverine’s Chopper Showdown (6866).  From the head piece down to the leg prints, it is definitely unique with its sheriff garb and other fine details (I love the bull horn accent on the belt buckle), plus it has a couple of accessories included such as a false moustache and a cowboy hat.

As a fan of Deadpool, I definitely have no qualms over this choice of SDCC LEGO minifigure exclusive. If you are not attending this year’s San Diego Comic Con and you still wish to have this minifigure, then be ready to be blown away by the over inflated prices of these little guys in the aftermarket. Their prices can really be exaggerated, and I’m not a particular fan of such practice.

As announced before, this exclusive will be available to SDCC 2018 attendees via a lottery system. We are still waiting for the reveal of the LEGO exclusive DC and LEGO Movie 2 minifigures respectively, which can be anytime this week. Stay tuned!

Target Hosting LEGO Harry Potter Event with Fun Giveaways and a Brick-Built Prize

Advertisements

Where LEGO is concerned, the Wizarding World is back in the spotlight now, months before the cinematic premiere of the latest movie in the franchise, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Said film already has a number of LEGO sets coming, alongside with other LEGO Harry Potter sets.

In fact, LEGO’s got one nifty promotional event to coincide with the introduction of their latest LEGO Harry Potter stuff (from BrickHeadz to a cool CMF line) , and they’re doing it with retail partner Target. News of this event was picked up and shared on social media by LEGO Harry Potter fans HaileyBricks and Brickanic, and it’s happening two Saturdays from now.

This event appears to commemorate (two months in advance) the 20th Anniversary of the September 1998 US book release of the first Harry Potter book by J.K. Rowling (which Scholastic re-subtitled as The Sorcerer’s Stone). It’s due to happen at the end of next week on July 21 at 11AM-2PM.

Merchandise being given away at participating Target stores includes a LEGO Harry Potter tote bag with the Hogwarts school emblem, and a Golden Trio poster with LEGO minifigures of Harry, Ron and Hermione in action. Those who enter the contest for Target’s Free 20th Anniversary Potter event might get a chance to win a special statue of Harry’s owl Hedwig, built entirely of LEGO bricks.

These giveaways are good to go at Target on July 21 while supplies last. Speaking of the date, you’ll realize it’s also the start of San Diego Comic Con. Decisions, decisions. It’s up to you.

LEGO Seasonal Penguin Girl (5005251) Minifigure Spotted

Advertisements

Though the summer heat wave is still ravaging across the US, here’s a cool, welcome treat of things to come from LEGO. An eBay listing has revealed what looks like to be our next LEGO seasonal minifigure, following the likes of the Banana Guy Summer minifigure (5005250) released three months ago. The LEGO Seasonal Penguin Girl (5005251) minifigure set is our next seasonal minifig which takes its cue from the Penguin Boy of LEGO’s Series 16 CMF released in 2016.

The LEGO Seasonal Penguin Girl (5005251) comes with a printed cardboard cabin blanketed by snow and other winter motifs. The minifigure itself is similar to the LEGO CMF Series 16 Penguin Boy, except of course for the different face print and a torso that includes a printed scarf. The Penguin Girl (5005251) also comes with a pair of skis in contrast to the ice skates that Penguin Boy has. This is a great opportunity to have another costumed minifigure in your collection while also having an excellent companion to your Penguin Boy minifig.

We have very little information as of this writing about this next seasonal minifigure, such as its actual retail price and availability. But like other seasonal CMFs before it, our best guess is that it will also be available at LEGO brand stores and other LEGOLAND outlets across the US. Stay tuned for more info. You may also click on the notification bell below for more LEGO news updates, and other cool brick-related tidbits.

Thanks to Hoth Bricks for the tip.
