Entire Line-up of LEGO Powerpuff Girls Minifigures Revealed!

Advertisements

Just in time before the gates of the New York Toy Fair opens on Saturday, LEGO has opted to reveal the full line-up of cast for its LEGO Powerpuff Girls sets. Yesterday, we had an official word from LEGO about the rumored return of the girls in minifigure forms. Frankly, this doesn’t come as a surprise since we already saw how the superpowered girls from Townsville looked like as part of the now discontinued LEGO Dimensions sets. What comes as a nice surprise is the inclusion of what most of us have been waiting for: the most adorable evil primate of all: Mojo Jojo!

First revealed by The Geekiary, these minifigures of Buttercup, Bubbles, and Blossom along with Princess Morbucks, the stuff toy Octi, Donny the Unicorn and of course, Mojo Jojo, are all part of two LEGO Powerpuff Girls sets scheduled to be released also in August.

The LEGO® Group will issue two new and exciting building sets featuring Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup allowing children, and fans of all ages, to recreate the superheroes’ action-packed adventures.

The two sets being mentioned here are the Bubbles Playground Showdown (41287) which includes Bubbles, Princess Morbucks, and Octi; while the other one is the Mojo Jojo Strikes (41288) which obviously comes with the super genius monkey himself Mojo Jojo, Buttercup, Blossom and Donny the Unicorn.  Let’s see if LEGO will also give us a glimpse of these sets at NYTF.

LEGO Also Confirms Fantastic Beasts Sets This Year.

Just as LEGO pulled the veil off from some of 2018’s Harry Potter sets, this time, LEGO has also confirmed the rumored Fantastic Beasts sets also slated this August. The announcement was made via LEGO’s official Facebook page, together with an image of a younger Harry Potter minifigure, standing in front of Platform 9 ¾.

LEGO has not released any detail yet about these LEGO Fantastic Beasts sets, so we’re hoping we can get a word or two from Brian as he is now in the thick of the action at the New York Toy Fair. Will keep you posted on this, so be sure to stay tuned here only at the Brick Show!

LEGO Ideas Stitch May Finally Become A Reality!

Advertisements

Oh boy, things are getting better and better with LEGO Ideas! After almost one and a half year since our Master Builder Tyler posted his own rendition of Disney’s lovable little blue alien as a LEGO Ideas project, my personal wish finally came true. If you recall way back in October of 2016, Tyler (who goes by the name Legohaulic over at ideas.LEGO.com) toyed with the idea of rendering Disney’s Stitch in a custom set and see how fans will react if it is submitted as a LEGO Ideas project. I have previously shared my thoughts and comments about this, and true enough, it turns out that I’m not the only who share the sentiment and admiration for this particular project, with 10K supporters who gladly gave their vote to see this project become a reality.

So it is with much excitement that I share with you guys, and for those who believe in Tyler’s work, that his LEGO Ideas Project Stitch is now one of the candidates for the First 2018 LEGO Ideas Review Stage!  As one of the very few MOCs who tried to capture Stitch in all his wackiness and emotive expressions, Tyler’s original creation stands out by highlighting Stitch in his many forms, disguises and antics, including this not so threatening version of Stitch in his red alien costume.

Tyler’s creation joins the roster of other LEGO Ideas projects that qualified this year’s first LEGO Ideas Review Stage such as the Embraer A-29 Super Tucano (Smoke Squadron), SR-71A Final Flight, and Treehouse. I  understand that LEGO Ideas has already changed its policies regarding how projects may or may not be approved depending if it already has an existing line or license with LEGO. However, we still do not have an official LEGO set (save for Stitch being included in the LEGO Disney CMF series) where Stitch is included as a minifig, so I really hope that LEGO will make this one happen. If it does, then LEGO Ideas Stitch, and Voltron: Defender of the Universe, will surely be day 1 buys for me.

Featured MOC: The Skull’s Eye Schooner Ship in a Bottle.

Advertisements

The LEGO Ideas Ship in a Bottle (21313) is generally opined to be one of the most awesome sets to come out under the LEGO Ideas process and labeling. It’s certainly one of the most photogenic and fit for shelf-top display. But while there’s a lot of praise, there’s also criticism.

One major sticking point for LEGO builders who got set 21313 is that the ship inside the bottle, the Flagship Leviathan, isn’t quite as massive as its name implies. From there came a new plus point for Ship in a Bottle: its versatility in having a different vessel mounted inside it.

We already covered one impressive MOC that replaced the Leviathan with a slightly miniaturized LEGO Pirates Skull’s Eye Schooner (6286). But other builders have decided to take a different tactic by enlarging the default Leviathan ship with additional parts instead. Brick Fanatics rises to the challenge again, with a ship enlargement plan.

Our hats go off to their builders for the very eye-catching results. Brick Fanatics went out of their way to both use common LEGO pieces and elements, while still trying to put in as much detail to the expanded Leviathan as it grew. Let’s go over the new embellishments next.

From the ship’s bow comes the addition of a LEGO microfigure as the Leviathan’s figurehead. Next are the two doors that lead into the ship’s foredeck. Interestingly, no LEGO model ship has ever featured interior-access doors like these. The ship’s enlarged rear now has stained-glass/transparent windows, rear deck, and flag.

Ultimately, the larger Flagship Leviathan was able to fit inside the bottle display with just one build modification, necessitating a different rearrangement of the top “glass” plates to accommodate the different placing of the mast-tops. Once, again, we thank Brick Fanatics for sharing this MOC, and we hope to get a chance to feature more from them in the future.

MIT Uses LEGO To Make Modular Microfluidics Lab Setup.

Advertisements

There have long been stories and news in the past concerning how LEGO bricks have been utilized in applications that went far beyond their original function as toys. Both engineers and scientists have occasionally used LEGOs in their work, often due to the precision and consistency of their component parts.

It’s not really surprising to hear laboratories like MIT reporting on some of their experimental setups where they used LEGO. This latest endeavor from scientists of the institute had them use those awesome plastic bricks to construct a modular microfluid system with a pump and sorter. But that’s not all.

As the project head, MIT Department of Mechanical Engineering graduate student Crystal Owens, puts it, their microfluid system experiment can be quickly replicated by scientists around the world from scratch, with a supply of LEGO bricks. “You could then build a microfluidic system similarly to how you would build a LEGO castle — brick by brick,” she says.

Why LEGO Bricks for building scientific setups? It can be credited to the efforts made by the manufacturer to make sure that each unique brick and element is precisely identical to copies of itself. That means they’re guaranteed to connect seamlessly no matter where those bricks are found, as long as they’re of the same shape and dimensions.

True, a little modification was done in some of the component bricks to allow the microfluid process, but the fact remains that the precision build of LEGO bricks has made them ideal for scientific construction.

MIT associate professor Anastasios John Hart is used to seeing microfluidic devices as being time-consuming and eating up a lot of resources to put together. Therefore, he’s very impressed by the use of LEGO as alternative building material. That’s one more feather in the cap for LEGO in technical usage.

LEGO Officially Reveals More Powerpuff Girls Sets in August!

Advertisements

Coming in hot from their reveal of the Kessel Run Millennium Falcon (75212) this Valentine’s, LEGO has dropped another reveal to further sweeten our day. Now before we get too excited about this latest news, we should bear in mind that there is not much of a difference with regards to how these minifigures look like as compared to their first debut as part of the last wave of LEGO Dimensions sets. If you recall, we also featured a video where Brian gave us some interesting details on how the upcoming LEGO Powerpuff Girls will look like, describing in detail these sets’ features and the minifigures included in them. However, earlier today, LEGO has finally broken its months-long silence, and finally gave us its first official confirmation of the girls having their own LEGO theme.

The news was shared via LEGO’s Twitter account, announcing the arrival of LEGO Powerpuff Girls sets in August. These sets are rumored to be the LEGO Powerpuff Girls Bubbles’ Playground Showdown (41287) and Mojo Jojo Strikes (41288).  Hopefully, now that we’re just a couple of days away from this weekend’s New York Toy Fair, we’ll get to see how these sets will actually look like, but for now this is what LEGO opted to share.

The LEGO Powerpuff Girls sets will be available beginning August. Set 41287 is said to feature the minifigures of Bubbles, Princess Morbucks, and Octi, while set 41288 will feature everyone’s favorite primate baddie, Mojo Jojo, Blossom, Buttercup, and a brick-built version of the Donny the Unicorn from the new series.

LEGO Star Wars Kessel Run Millennium Falcon (75212) Officially Revealed!

Advertisements

It looks like LEGO is not just giving as a treat this Valentine’s Day, but also a taste of things to come before this year’s New York Toy Fair kicks in on Saturday. We already have an idea that this particular set is eventually one of the LEGO Han Solo tie-in builds that we can expect this April, and this time around, LEGO opted to reveal one of them to whet our interest.

Posted via their Facebook page, LEGO now gives us our first official look at the LEGO Star Wars Kessel Run Millennium Falcon (75212).  This set comes in at 1,414 pieces and features what is supposedly the original version of the Falcon before Han Solo heavily modded it. It also features the minifigure versions of Qi’Ra, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, Quay Tolsite, Kessel Operations Droid, and DD-BD. The set will be released sometime in April, retailing for $169.99.

Now you might be wondering why these images feel like a bit incomplete since two minifigures (Quay Tolsite and DD-BD) are still missing from the roster of images and that the official box arts were also not revealed. I reckon that it still has something to do with LEGO and Disney still holding back on the finer details of the film before it premieres on May 25. Nevertheless, we can still enjoy this crisp, clear images and have a slight idea of what to expect from this set.

Newest 10-K Passer on LEGO Ideas: KevinTreeHouse’s “Treehouse”

Advertisements

The Brick Show has been following up on the LEGO Ideas platform in some recent updates, bringing you word whenever a particular fan submission has garnered the first step on its (not always completed) journey to official set status. We haven’t been disappointed yet with the project submissions reaching 10,000 votes of support.

Our last featured 10K-passer on LEGO Ideas was a sweet model of the SR-71 Blackbird spy plane submitted by JustOneMoreBrick. This new entry is in a way more impressive, in that it’s a structure with a natural component; in other words, a tree-house. And this one’s an absolutely brilliant build.

Created by LEGO Ideas member KevinTreeHouse, this Treehouse set is both new and familiar to the eyes. There’s a tall tree, with a ring of three distinct tree house structures over halfway up its trunk, connected by a pathway that also leads to a spiral staircase to the ground.

KevinTreeHouse’s backstory for his build has it to be the emergency home of a family of three (man, woman, child minifigures) who got lost or stranded in the wilderness. They build the 3-cabin structure (2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom) and settle in for a rough life, with four pets for company.

That’s right. Not only does this tree house submission have minifigures, the tree cabins (looking like something out of Swiss Family Robinson or Return of the Jedi) are spacious enough to accommodate them, with furniture and equipment to spare. All in all, this set comprises of over 2,600 individual pieces.

With the passing of KevinTreeHouse’s Ideas build thanks to its 10K support achievement, there are now three sets waiting for the LEGO Ideas First 2018 Review Stage. Aside from this and JustOneMoreBrick’s Blackbird model, there’s also the Brazilian-built Embraer A-29 Super Tucano (Smoke Squadron), submitted by Alex Paschoaletto.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 Black Panther DLC Now Available on All Platforms

Advertisements

Earlier this week, we announced that there would be a new DLC pack coming for LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. As expected, it’s going to be tied to the (really, really) close premiere of Marvel Studio’s Black Panther this Friday. The additions include new costumes, characters and playable levels in-game.

We said it was coming on Tuesday, February 13. Now here it is. LMHS2’s developers, Traveller’s Tales and Warner Bros. Interactive, also released a trailer to promote the DLC. It’s everything fans of the MCU film have already seen in the movie trailers, all rendered in CGI brick and minifigures.

It just has to be said. Wakanda in LEGO is gorgeous in the game’s graphics, and it’s replete with environmental features to navigate and avoid, with characters both helpful and hostile on the scene. There’re some slick action sequences of T’Challa running through the level and beating up baddies too.

Even the introductory sequences of some of the new characters added to LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 by the DLC are pretty sweet. We see Erik Killmonger in his rip-off “leopard” suit with the mask, and Ulysses Klaue firing his sound blaster. The graphics are surprisingly accurate to the film.

Here’s the latest blurb for the Black Panther DLC on LMSH2:

Download to get access to this level and character pack inspired by Marvel Studios’ Black Panther. Set within the Kingdom of Wakanda, players will take the legendary Wakandan Super Hero and his sister Shuri on a dangerous mission within the darkest depths of their homeland, battling mutated creatures and arch-nemesis Erik Killmonger’s vicious army.

As a last note, another additional character added into the game aside from what we mentioned last time is CIA Agent Everett Ross (played in the film by Martin Freeman). The LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 Black Panther DLC is now available as a separate purchase for $2.99 if you purchased the base game. On the other hand, it comes as a free download if you opted to purchase the game’s Deluxe Edition.
