Win The LEGO Batman Movie prizes with the Blocks Bat Build Contest

In the LEGO Batman Movie, the title character has an entire Batcave full of crazy unique vehicles… but can he ever have enough awesome rides? He doesn’t seem to think, and neither do we! In Blocks Issue 28, our talented Mod Squad converted a selection of LEGO sets to fit in with Batman’s unique vibe.

As our Mod Squad team has kicked things off, we now want to see what Blocks readers can convert for LEGO Batman. A Bat-Race Plane? A Bat-Airship? A Bat-Gift Delivery van? (yes, naming them is the easy part). Once you have built your Batman conversion, come up with a few sentences explaining why LEGO Batman converted this vehicle for his collection. Our judging panel – including The LEGO Batman Movie Senior Design Manager Michael Fuller as a guest judge – will select the winning builds.

There are some awesome The LEGO Batman Movie prizes up for grabs – first place wins 70909 Batcave Break-in, second place wins 70908 The Scuttler and third place wins 70904 Clayface Splat Attack. What’s more, all three prize winners get a copy of Blocks Issue 28 signed by the movie’s director, Chris McKay and producer, Dan Lin.

Nuremberg Toy Fair 2017 Is Now In Full Swing!

Toy Fair season is definitely upon us, with the London Toy Fair just been recently concluded, we now move on to the next leg of international toy fairs that give us a glimpse of things to come especially in the world of LEGO bricks. The Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany, dubbed as the largest toy fair in the world, has now opened its doors to all retailers and guests, and covering the action right there at the LEGO booth are the ever reliable teams of Promo Bricks and Zusammengebaut. Credit goes to their kind efforts of sharing these images to the world.

Suffice to say, LEGO did a good job of having its active themes covered in the opening day of the Nuremberg Toy Fair, so let’s take a while to break down what was revealed so far during the past hours. We’ll try to comment on these images as the opportunity arises, but in the meantime, feel free to share your thoughts on these sets.

LEGO Technic

This may come in as a surprise for LEGO Technic fans. LEGO has revealed a building guide that allows you to combine this year’s Technic sets particularly, 42057, 42061, and 42063, to come up with the iconic Technic chassis from 1977. We know that LEGO has a sweet spot for the Technic  theme since it is one of its longest line of sets that it has ever came up with. If the inclusion of the 40th commemorative beam in its 2017 sets is already a very much welcomed token, then the presence of the commemorative building guide (which will be made available for free during the second half of the year according to Zusammengebaut) is a great bonus.

LEGO Marvel and DC Comics Super Heroes

Though LEGO has not revealed any images yet, it’s great to know that TLG has finally confirmed its latest line of superhero sets dedicated to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Comics Super Heroes. The box arts that were on display confirms that we’ll be seeing several sets all dedicated to the much awaited films such as Spider-Man: Homecoming (set 76082 & 76083), Thor: Ragnarok (sets 76084 & 76088), and DC’s Justice League (sets 76085, 76086, and 76087).

LEGO Juniors Cars 3

There seems to be another previously reported ‘fake’ news that turned out to be true after all. Hot off the trail that the rumored Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Men Tell No Tales (71042) was eventually legit, the German Toy Fair has revealed that LEGO indeed has its sights in coming up with a line of sets dedicated to the third comeback of Lightning McQueen in Disney Pixar’s Cars 3. These watermarked box arts were put on display bearing set numbers 10730, 10731, 10732, 10733, 10742, 10743, 10744, & 10745.

LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 17 and LEGO Ninjago Movie

series 17 minifigs

We know that Series 17 of LEGO’s CMF is just around the corner. In fact, leaked images of some of its minifigs are already out there in the wild. However, LEGO has been particularly tight-lipped with its next line of cinematic CMFs, particularly on its next theatrical offering, The LEGO Ninjago Movie. Though the box on display was sort of the generic type, the number of minifigs (20 in this series) gives us a hint that LEGO intends to repeat its minifig offerings same as that from the LEGO Batman Movie. The picture also below somehow gives us an idea on how our teen ninjas will look like in their first ever cinematic debut.

Some of the highlights of the LEGO Toy Fair Booth also include a demonstration of its upcoming LEGO Boost Creative Toolbox (17101) and the official launch of the social media platform for LEGO fans, the LEGO Life app. Noticeably missing in action during day 1 of the Nuremberg Toy Fair are the recent LEGO Batman Movie summer sets, those from the LEGO Ninjago Movie, and from the Star Wars theme.

Check Out These High-Resolution Pics of the LEGO Marvel Superheroes GOTG Vol. 2 Sets.

A few weeks back, we saw that the LEGO Marvel Superheroes theme has been expanded to include the comeback of MCU’s rowdiest, but endearing ragtag team of superheroes in Guardians of the Galaxy. If you still remember the first GOTG film, you know very well that everyone’s lovable perennial superhero, in a final act of self-sacrifice, decided it’s time to be back in the nursery and to be tended by his teammates for a change. So what’s cooler than having a Flora Colossus from Planet X with a single vocabulary? Why not turn him back to a sapling? And what is even more awesome than that? Create a LEGO babyfig version of him.

We saw the official images in our previous post, and this time around courtesy of The Brick Fan and Brick Heroes, we now have a closer look at the images and box art of this next wave of sets from LEGO Marvel Superheroes Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. See if you can find baby Groot in these of pictures.

UPDATED: The LEGO Batman Movie Summer Collection Has Been Revealed!

Before everything gets awesome once again next week when The LEGO Batman Movie officially kicks off in theaters on February 8, The Hollywood Reporter has just revealed the next wave TLBM sets slated to hit shelves this summer. This confirms our previous report on these next TLBM sets as they were first revealed in DK’s The LEGO Batman Movie The Essential Guide. Check out these official images plus some other info courtesy of THR.

 Scarecrow’s Gyrocopter (70913) – $14.99

Scarecrow is back and this time, he’s holding back on the pizza deliveries. This set features Scarecrow on an aerial assault aboard his Gyrocopter, and a portion of the Gotham City Energy Facility. To counter Scarecrow’s attack in the air, the set comes with a Batman minifig equipped with a Batwing-like jetpack and grappling hook. 70913 measures roughly over 3″ (9 cm) high, 5″ (13 cm) long and 1” (5 cm) wide.

[]

Team up with Batman™ to stop Scarecrow spreading fear in this action-packed THE LEGO® BATMAN MOVIE: Scarecrow™ Fearful Face-off set. The Gyro-Copter features two spinning rotors, an adjustable rudder and two bomb-drop functions to drop the included fear gas bomb elements. The set also features a power plant mini build with an explode function for added jeopardy, plus two minifigures.

• Includes two minifigures: Scarecrow™ and Batman™.
• Scarecrow’s Gyro-Copter features top and rear spinning rotors, an adjustable rudder, two bomb-drop functions and three translucent-green fear gas bomb elements.
• The power plant mini build has space for a fear gas bomb element and an explode function.
• Also includes Batman’s jetpack with Batwings and two adjustable boosters with translucent flame elements.

• $14.99

Bane’s Toxic Truck (70914) – $49.99

I guess no TLBM set greatly highlights the film’s brand of ironic humor as seen in Bane’s Toxic Truck (70914). Against such imposing a ride as this 6X6 off-roader with all its armament and toxic firepower, our hero dives into action using a, well, Whirly Bat. Other than a pretty impressive ride fit for the roughest villains of Gotham, Bane’s first ever bigfig version is made only better with the inclusion of another notorious nemesis in the minifigure version of the Mutant Leader. Set 70914 measures 4″ (11 cm) high, 6″ (17 cm) long, and 3″ (9 cm) wide.

[]

Stop Bane™ and Mutant Leader’s toxic attacks with Batman™ in this exciting THE LEGO® BATMAN MOVIE: Bane™ Toxic Truck Attack set, including Bane’s Toxic Truck, Batman’s Whirly-Bat flyer and a toxic waste mini-build with explode function. The six-wheel truck features rear four-wheel suspension and a mounted six-stud rapid shooter and detachable toxic tank element. Includes two minifigures, a big figure and assorted play-inspiring weapons and accessory elements including Batman’s Batarang, Mutant Leader’s torch and Bane’s Venom backpack.

• Includes four minifigures: Batman™, Two-Face™ and two GCPD officers.
• Two-Face™ excavator features a ‘good-and-bad-side’ design, minifigure cabin, removable roof and opening weapon storage compartment with a pistol, four huge wheels (two with spikes on the ‘bad’ side), operational excavator arm and bucket, articulated design for smooth steering, six–stud rapid shooter, rotor blade and rear storage compartment.

• Road barriers each measure over 1” (3cm) high, 1” (5cm) wide and under 1” (2cm) deep.
• $59.99

Two-Face Double Demolition (70915) – $59.99

It was great to know that actor Billy Dee Williams is back to voice one of Gotham’s suave sociopath villains in The LEGO Batman Movie. It was made even better when we get a closer look at his minifig version aboard his monstrous excavator which he took from Falcone’s Legit Construction Company. The excavator itself is an expression of Two-Face’s twisted personality: a truck fitted with a variety of Mad Max-like weapons while keeping a semblance of a truck in its spotless condition. To counter his attack, Batman is prepared to take on the brute with his Batcycle that seems to be a nod from his Dark Knight films. Two-Face’s excavator measures in at 4″ (12 cm) high, 11″ (29 cm) long and 5″ (15 cm) wide, while the Batcycle measures over 1″ (5 cm) high, 5″ (14 cm) long and 2″ (7 cm) wide.

The Batwing (70916) – $89.99

Finally, we probably have the largest ride (yet) in Batman’s garage with this minifig-scaled Batwing. Set 70916 comes with an impressive build of the iconic Batwing as seen in the trailer, with a cockpit where Batman’s minifig can be snugly fit in – unless having Robin tagged along will prove to be a little uncomfortable. Why not throw in a Bat Buggy for the little tyke to save Batman the trouble? LEGO has released several iterations of the Batwing in the past (mostly in smaller sets), but this version of the Batwing is by far the best of them all. The set 70916 comes in at 5″ (15 cm) high, 12″ (31 cm) long and 18″ (48 cm) wide in flight mode, and over 3″ (9 cm) high, 12″ (31 cm) long and 20″ (53 cm) wide in landing mode.

A fifth, larger set – 70917 – has been listed by Brickset and is still waiting to be revealed retailing at 139.99€. The price range of this unnamed set is a little lower than that of Arkham Asylum (70912), so we can also expect a rather large build, or perhaps a D2C offering.

The 2017 London Toy Fair Officially Kicks Off.

This year’s London Toy Fair has already begun at the British capital and The LEGO Group is one of the exhibitors who wouldn’t want to miss out on the occasion. However, unlike last year where media representatives and AFOL groups were invited, it seems that TLG has put a very tight lid on this year’s Toy Fair, limiting the exclusive invitation to retailers only.

Photography is strictly prohibited, with the entire display area walled off from outside observers. Though we don’t know what revelations these fortunate retailers have witnessed (I bet they have to sign some papers with a strict confidentiality clause of some kind) Promo Bricks were able to compile these Instagram images of the outside walls of LEGO’s display area. Check these out.

Though there is not much to be seen from these shots, we can take comfort from the fact that the Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany is just around the corner starting February 1. We’ll keep a close eye on this, especially the first, exciting images of LEGO’s rumored 2017 sets that may be revealed. Will soon find out if our theories are correct. So be sure to stay tuned here at the Brick Show for more LEGO news and updates.

The LEGO Halloween Set 40260 Is The Next Seasonal Vignette.

It seems that LEGO’s next seasonal offering further confirms this year vignette collection. While most of us are warming up for Valentine’s Day and may have probably set aside a box or two of the LEGO Romantic Valentine Picnic 40236 for that special person in mind (you may want to check out Stephen’s review by clicking on the link above), and others have already grabbed their LEGO Easter Seasonal Set 40237, LEGO has now revealed its upcoming seasonal vignette slated most probably for October.

Thanks to Eurobricks member LegoLeroy, he was kind enough to share this image of the next LEGO Seasonal set which he found at the back of the building instructions of the Easter set which he and his wife purchased from their local LEGO Store.

Brickset has listed this next seasonal set as the LEGO Halloween 40260 which features two minifigures – a skeleton and a male, Bruce Wayne-like minifig – and a spooky castle gate of some sort with some great pieces like the pumpkin head, spider, and a cauldron for cooking a rather nasty meal. The gate seems to lead outside, against an orange sky that gives it a three-dimensional depth. Needless to say, the set comes with very interesting pieces that builders will surely want to have. The color scheme is predominantly black, but unlike 2015’s Trick or Treat Halloween (40122), this year’s Hollow’s Eve set comes with various unique elements that are pretty useful for builders. I particularly like how this year’s sets are designed, especially when it highlights the simple joys of celebrating the holidays with others – even if it is just an animated skeleton.

Our best guess is that there are still two seasonal sets waiting to be revealed just in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas. What do you think about this year’s LEGO Halloween 40260 set? Will you be picking this one up?
