Right after the unveiling of the next LEGO direct-to-consumer exclusive with the LEGO Creator Expert Volkswagen Beetle 10252, comes a great designer video that further showcases what makes this iconic brick-built bug the next big thing in LEGO Creations. Presented by one of the most prolific LEGO set designers around, Mike Psiaki explains the beautiful intricacies of this tasteful automotive LEGO creation. Watch this.
The LEGO Creator Expert VW Beetle comes in at 1,167 pieces and measures 11 inches high, 10 inches long, and 4 inches wide. Though it will probably appeal more to AFOLS and classic automobile enthusiasts, nevertheless the LEGO VW Beetle features a lot of fun, play features such as a removable roof that reveals a brick-built interior and adjustable seats, with a trunk, hood and doors that fully opens. LEGO never fails to pay impeccable attention to detail when it playfully added a spare tire in the trunk, a new piece with the Volkswagen’s logo printed on to it, and a replica of its air-cooled, four cylinders in the back. 10252 also comes with a pretty neat collection of sticker decals that leaves the builder with four license plates to choose from. Whether you want to relive the laid back, surfs up culture that the Beetle is intimately associated with, or to celebrate the German heritage of the automobile icon, there are many ways in which you can showcase the best of what the LEGO VW Beetle has to offer.
If you can recall, this is not the first time that LEGO came up with the idea of coming up with a set that is solely dedicated to the German Beetle. Back in 2008, LEGO tried to replicate the Volkswagen Beetle with set 10187, but it didn’t seem to gather enough steam as a D2C exclusive. Now, after 8 years, LEGO’s latest iteration is a stark study in contrasts, with its smooth, Studs-Not-On-Top (SNOT) design and excellent curves. In fact, according to Psiaki, they were so much absorbed in getting the right curves for the 10252 that they ended up producing a new and one-of-a-kind LEGO element used as mud guards to further emphasize the natural curves of the VW Beetle.
This is one LEGO automotive set that will never fail to impress anyone. Retailing at $99.00, LEGO VIP members will have early access to the LEGO VW Beetle starting July 14, while the set will be offered to the larger public starting on August 1.
