We’re a couple of days away from another amazing race for some Easter egg hunts, and what better way to prepare for it is to have your very own egg decorator who will automate the egg decorating process? Taking his cue from the famous EggBot, Jason Allemann gave his rendition of this wonder machine straight from the 90s. What’s even cooler is that you can build your very own LEGO EV3 Egg Decorator, and of course with the ever-reliable Sharpie.

Watch this video and see how Jason’s EV3 Egg Decorator turns a humble, hard-boiled egg, into a colorful piece of art.

With preloaded patterns to choose from, operating the EV Egg Decorator is quite easy. Just place the egg securely between the robot’s holders, making sure that it is placed about .5 cm/.25 in below the tip of the colored marker. By pressing on the left and right buttons on the EV3 intelligent brick, you may choose from the many patterns available. According to Jason, any standard Sharpie marker can be used since his robot can easily be adjusted to fit with any other colored markers.

Typical of his other MOCs, Jason was kind enough to go the extra mile by providing us with a building guide, parts list, and the EV3 program file to come up with our version of the Egg Decorator. Other LEGO users are free to modify and improve the functions of the EV3 Egg Decorator as they see it fit.

Thanks again Jason for making this year’s Easter egg hunt a lot more fun!
