I remember as a kid how my wide, googly eyes lit up whenever I pass by our local bookstore, sit on the floor, and carefully thumb my way through pages of amazing pop-up books. The story comes visually alive as the cleverly folded images ‘rise up’ on each turn of the page. Until now, I am still impressed by the creativity of the people behind these amazing folded masterpieces.
So imagine my surprise when I stumbled on the creative genius of LEGO uber master builder talapz as he shares his jaw-dropping rendition of a foldable, LEGO pop-up Himeji Castle just like a big, brick-built pop-up storybook.
That is absolutely amazing! According to talapz, it took him a total of 1 year and 3 months to complete this build with so many LEGO pieces that he already lost count of. The walls of the castle perfectly fit one another as they come together at the center of this MOC. I was literally holding my breath as I see him carefully closing his LEGO pop-up castle. I was worried that the pieces might actually fall off as the castle walls separate from each other. It becomes more impressive when you realize that he didn’t use any glue to support the castle’s structure and relying instead on the stability and sturdiness of its joints and movable parts.
Measuring at 70 x 70 x 11.5 centimeters (or 27.5 x 27.5 x 4.5 inches), this is by far the largest pop-up castle that talapz created, with three similar builds that he created several years ago.
