LEGO Icons Loop Coaster (10303) Gets Official Product Listing

Advertisements

Way back in 2018, LEGO wowed amusement park collector-builders with a Roller Coaster set (10261) of the Creator Expert line. Some four years later, speculation began building of a possible follow-up, with a set number even: 10303. The release date is supposed to be this mid-2022. It also means that this set will now come out under the new LEGO Icons moniker, replacing Creator Expert. Well now we can stop wondering because LEGO has made its official reveal according to Germany’s Promobricks. It won’t have the new Icons logo on the packaging yet, but that’s not really important at present.

Anyway, here we have images and information snippets for the LEGO Icons Loop Coaster (10303). If this is a follow-up of sorts to 2018’s (now-retired) Roller Coaster (10261), it’s a big step up. Where the older set featured turns and inclines, the Loop Coaster boasts more advanced track elements. By that we mean this ride has loops (naturally). Another key feature is the elevator ascent from the station. The lift carries the coaster up to the top of a 90-degree incline. That’s enough momentum to propel the ride through two loops before returning to station.

Being an 18+ Icons set, Loop Coaster will cost a pretty penny when it launches, though LEGO’s not specifying yet. Here’s some more info from the official LEGO.com product listing:

Loop Coaster (10303)

Age 18+ | 3,765 pieces | 11 minifigures | $399.99 | Coming Soon

  • A roller-coaster build for adults – Expand your LEGO® Fairground Collection with this collectible LEGO Loop Coaster Building Kit (10303). A project for adults and a gift idea for amusement park lovers
  • Power up your coaster – Designed with reality in mind, this buildable model is prepared for LEGO® Powered Up (available separately) so you can upgrade the roller-coaster with a motorized elevator
  • Fairground details – Accessories include a park bench with map, balloon cart, pretzel cart, hot-dog stand, height marker and a covered boarding station with opening barriers and a control panel
  • 11 minifigures – Includes a ride operator, balloon seller, pretzel seller, hot-dog seller, a grandma, a young boy, and 5 riders. 6 of the minifigures have reversible heads to show different emotions

LEGO Creator Expert Becomes LEGO Icons in June – Packaging Rebrand Starts 2023

Advertisements

One significant development in the naming of LEGO themes happened back in the year 2020. That was when the brand officially retired the “Creator Expert” offshoot of LEGO Creator. The company reasoned that the naming potentially scared off potential LEGO newbies. As part of the reorganization LEGO began using the Age 18+ classification for sets formerly under Creator Expert designation. You might notice though that we still tended to mention the name in our reports. The LEGO.com Shop continued using Creator Expert in their online listings after all. But starting next month, Creator Expert will finally have a new moniker – enter LEGO Icons.

According to Brick Fanatics, the former LEGO Creator Expert line will now become LEGO Icons effective June 1. The new designation will also blanket encompass specific set subthemes that originally popped up under Creator Expert. If you recall the Botanical Collection and Modular Buildings that LEGO.com lists as Creator Expert sets, they’ll become Icons sets. That upcoming LEGO Optimus Prime (10302) will thus be known as a LEGO Icons set upon launch. Icons itself will slot under the wider “LEGO for Adults” classification of 18+ sets introduced in 2021.

LEGO’s statement on the reveal of the Icons theme is to help “adult consumers”. They note that 18+ builders tend to go for sets that either reflect their interests/passions or be deeply immersive. That being said, apparently upcoming sets will not carry the mark in product packaging until next year. We at The Brick Show might bet that the next LEGO modular-building set in 2023 will debut the Icons mark. For the moment, let’s appreciate the nifty branding as featured in the banner image at top.

New LEGO 90th Anniversary Space Set Arriving Soon

Advertisements

For your friendly reminder, this year is the 90th anniversary of LEGO. That plucky Danish toy company turned global brand giant’s been a good part of the lives of children and collectors. And in celebration, LEGO’s been hyping up revivals of classic sets given fresh new design revamps. Cases in point: LEGO Classic 90 Years of Play (11021) and the upcoming Lion King’s Castle (10305). Of course, those aforementioned sets are just the beginning. In fact, there’s a rumor about a possible 90th-anniversary set in the vein of the classic Castle theme. That means a classic LEGO theme throwback is arriving soon as the LEGO 90th Anniversary Space set.

Brick Fanatics has it that a new LEGO set number’s been floating around for the Creator Expert or Icons line. According to the rumor, it’ll be a space-themed set that remakes a classic entry of that LEGO theme. The LEGO 90th Anniversary Space set number 10497 will allegedly bring a new version of the Galaxy Explorer from 1979. This classic set features a space shuttle, planetary outpost, and rover, plus astronaut minifigs. You can see from the image how bare-bones the vehicle details were back in the day. It also means that if the rumor is true, a Creator Expert or Icons treatment of the set will look extremely fine.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This is a rumor, and until LEGO makes an official reveal, we must treat it as such. There is, after all, the matter of the 90th anniversary LEGO Castle (10305). Castle and Space were among the chosen themes voted for an anniversary set in 2022. The Castle (10305) was announced first, so one can assume it won. But maybe LEGO decided to give us more. You may be tired of hearing this by now, but it’s a matter of waiting once again.

Other LEGO Creator Expert Sets Due Later in 2022

We just took a good look at the highly-anticipated LEGO set for Optimus Prime (10302), from Hasbro’s “Transformers” franchise. It’s but the latest entry to the Age-18+ LEGO Creator Expert (or LEGO for Adults) line this 2022. Starting with the Boutique Hotel (10297), we’ve been blessed with awesome sets for grown-up LEGO builders. And this unprecedented collaboration between LEGO and Hasbro for a brick-built Optimus isn’t even the last for the year. They’ve got more Creator Expert/Adult sets awaiting launch. Some are throwbacks to old LEGO sets, some are new, and others are annual releases. Stone Wars gives us further info on these upcoming releases.

Surely you still recall the LEGO Castle set numbered 10305 that’s been a favored subject of rumor. The last word puts its launch this coming August. But before that, according to Stone Wars, we’ve got an apparent follow-up to the 2018 Creator Expert Roller Coaster (10261). This set, numbered 10303, is said to launch in July. And that’s not all. Here’s a listing of what else to come from Creator Expert before the year’s out.

  • Optimus Prime (10302) – Due June 1; see our feature on it
  • Roller Coaster (10303) – 3,756 pieces; €349.99; July
  • Chevrolet Camaro (10304) – 1,456 pieces; €159.99; summer or autumn
  • Castle (10305) – €349.99; August
  • Atari 2600 (10306) – €169.99; August
  • Eiffel Tower (10307) – €629.99; November
  • Winter Village 2022 (10308) – €99.99; Holidays 2022
  • Botanical Collection: Succulents (10309) – 771 pieces; €49.99; May

Yeah, the numbering order doesn’t necessarily reflect the release order. Botanical Collection: Succulents is Creative Expert set number 10309, but it’s available now. Also, set 10301, supposedly a space set, has yet to be revealed itself. For now, the above list has concrete info for the sets, but LEGO’s yet to tell us more.

LEGO Optimus Prime (10302) Revealed; Launching June 1 for Creator Expert Line

The beauty about LEGO and its licensed-IP products is that they’ve been real good at getting so many. Media franchises have long made up a solid portion of LEGO sets: films, TV series and more. Over the years their scope for licensed IPs has expanded. Whoever thought doing Nintendo’s “Super Mario” in LEGO could turn out so good. But one thing LEGO hasn’t quite done was do a LEGO product depicting something from their toy-brand competitors. At least, that was the case until this year. There’s no denying it now. LEGO has partnered with rival Hasbro to give us this sweet 18+ set…that also transforms.

Brickset gives us this epic news of confirmation for LEGO Creator Expert’s take on Optimus Prime (10302) from Hasbro’s “Transformers.” We get a kit of 1,508 pieces to assemble into the most iconic Cybertronian Transformer of all. And just like with the original toys from Hasbro (and Japan’s Takara), you can transform our Autobot leader. Fully built, Creator Expert Optimus (10302) can change as-is from robot to truck mode and back. We also get weapons options and accessories like a jetpack, energon cube and the Matrix of Leadership. This is a must-have for LEGO-and-Transformers cross-brand fan. They’ll certainly be waiting for its launch June 1st.

Optimus Prime (10302)

Age 18+ | 1,508 pieces | $169.99 |Coming June 1

  • Build a Transformers icon – Enjoy quality time crafting all the details of this LEGO® Optimus Prime (10302) model
  • Converts from robot to vehicle – Just like the much-loved original, this LEGO® Optimus Prime replica switches between a robot and a truck

  • Authentic accessories – Relive Transformers sagas with accessories that include the ion blaster, Autobot Matrix of Leadership, an Energon axe, Energon cube and jetpack

  • For Transformers fans – This LEGO® Optimus Prime collectible model is designed especially for adults looking for their next immersive project
  • Display with pride – Includes a display plaque so you can pay tribute to your passion for Transformers
  • 19 points of articulation – Explore all of Optimus Prime’s movements. Open the chest chamber to store the Autobot Matrix of Leadership

That’s only under a month left before “Transformers” fans can transform and roll out with LEGO.

April 1 LEGO Set Launch, Seasonal Promo Roundup

Advertisements

It’s a new month today, four months now into 2022. That makes it the first of April, but we’re not pulling any April Fools gag here. After all, the first day of every month is LEGO set launch day. Thanks to The Brick Fan, we’ve got this recap of April 1 new LEGO set releases for easy reference. It’s not exactly expansive, but that means we’ll go over them quickly. You can also check the links for our features on some of the sets below:

LEGO

Brick Sketches

Creator Expert

Marvel
Infinity Saga
  • Endgame Battle Accessory Pack (40525)

Mech Armor

  • Spider-Man & Green Goblin Mech Battle (76219)

Thor: Love and Thunder

The April 1st launch window isn’t quite beefy product-wise, like we already said. Still, there are enough new sets available now to purchase and get the seasonal promotions on top. In the run-up to the Easter holidays LEGO has your choice of cute bunnies or cute hatchling chicks:

  • Creator Easter Bunny (30583) – minimum LEGO purchase of $40

Both these Easter seasonal sets are available for promotion until, anticlimactically, April 16. That’s because Easter Sunday April 17 serves as the mid-month LEGO launch date for April 2022. We’ll touch upon the sets scheduled to come out then, when the time comes.

LEGO Creator Expert Back to the Future Time Machine (10300) Officially Listed at Last

Advertisements

Ever since LEGO Cuusoo (now LEGO Ideas) released the “Back to the Future” DeLorean Time Machine (21103), fans knew. They somehow knew, nearly a decade after that set’s release, that the time machine car would be revisited LEGO-wise. Sure, there have been false alarms, like last year’s alleged new DeLorean being a Creator Expert Pickup Truck (10290) instead. But fans of LEGO Back to the Future (repped by long-retired one-off sets) never lost hope. The latest rumors insisted that the DeLorean will return in the LEGO Creator Expert line this year. And so it did.

We’re happy to share thanks to news from Brickset that the iconic DeLorean is back in official brick-built form. Say hi to the Creator Expert Back to the Future Time Machine (10300). Doc Brown’s DeLorean comes with enough accessories to depict its various configurations across the “Back to the Future” trilogy. The Doc and Marty are also available in minifig form, even if their ride isn’t to scale with them. The April 1 release date checks out, and thankfully it won’t be a joke. At last, collectors that have waited some time can soon get their hands on this set. Here’s some official listing snippets:

Back to the Future Time Machine (10300)

Age 18+ | 1,872 pieces | 2 minifigures | $169.99 | Coming April 1

  • Build an icon – Spend quality time crafting all the details of this LEGO® Back to the Future Time Machine (10300) with 3 different model versions of the car to choose from
  • Build 1 of 3 options – Version 1 includes a lightning rod and plutonium chamber, version 2 features Mr. Fusion and hover conversion, and version 3 has whitewall tires and a circuit board
  • Opening gull doors – Just like in the movies, this model version of the Back to the Future car includes the famous opening gull doors
  • Flight mode – The car’s tires fold down for flight mode. Other details include the light-up flux capacitor, printed dashboard dates and opening hood
  • Includes 2 minifigures, plus accessories – Spot details from the movies, like Marty’s hoverboard and the OUTATIME license plate. Comes with Doc and Marty McFly minifigures to add to your display

Rumored LEGO Creator Expert DeLorean (10300) from “Back to the Future” Still “On” for April

Advertisements

In terms of licensed IPs within LEGO, time-travel sci-fi franchise “Back to the Future” is quite a minor label. One might describe it as a special one-off. “BTTF” set representation lies only in LEGO Ideas (during its Cuusoo days), the defunct “LEGO Dimensions,” and one BrickHeadz twofer. Still, there are LEGO-collecting fans of “Back to the Future” who would like more tie-ins. It’s no wonder that rumors of a new LEGO set featuring the DeLorean time machine are frequently followed. We covered an iteration of this speculation in November last year. Now, the buzz is back again in full force.

Stone Wars tells us that the long-alleged LEGO DeLorean (10300) from “Back to the Future” is coming closer. Sure, the possible April 1 launch date makes the whole thing “sus,” as “Among Us” players might say. But there is the fact that the set name apparently carries the “DMC-12” designation of the actual car. That is, even if this turns out not to be the “BTTF” DeLorean time machine, it could also be a model of the DMC DeLorean car instead. The other details remain the same: Creator Expert, Age 18+. As for pricing, it’s now €179.99 or $199.99 (estimate).

Being a Creator Expert set, the rumored DeLorean (10300) won’t be of a scale for minifigures. That hasn’t stopped LEGO from adding minifigs to stand on an info plaque display or something. They’ve done so with other pop-culture vehicles before. Remember Batman Batmobile Tumbler (76240)? Anyway, “Back to the Future” time machine or car, this set is supposed to arrive next month. We have the rest of March to wait for details. Until they come up, we’ll continue to chalk this up as a rumor.
