“Star Wars” and LEGO Release “‘The Last Jedi’ in 2 Minutes” Abridged Brick Video Ahead of Movie’s Blu-Ray Release

With Disney and Lucasfilm dedicated to bringing out a Star Wars film for every year (and perhaps a new TV series soon after the end of Rebels), the LEGO Star Wars product line looks primed to never run out of new set, minifigure or polybag releases tying into the franchise.

By the way, last year’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi is already available on digital format, and soon to come out on Blu-Ray (next week to be precise). To celebrate that event (and to hype LEGO Star Wars more), the two franchises have collaborated to create a promotional short video.

Said video is a blend of stop-motion and 3D that features a 2-minute long abridged retelling of The Last Jedi (topped with a seconds-long wrap-up of the original Star Wars trilogy and The Force Awakens). The narrator humorously goes over the film’s events, referring to each character with funny nicknames.

Perhaps the highlight of this video is the scene where the death of Supreme Leader Snoke and the subsequent battle between his Royal Guard and the Kylo-Rey duo plays out. It might be a sneak preview of the LEGO Star Wars “Throne Room Duel” (75216) set, which would be cool.

All in all, it’s a nice riff on Episode VIII of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, with its contradictory box-office success and franchise fan criticism. If you’d like to own The Last Jedi on Blu-Ray, it comes out March 27. And do keep a lookout for more LEGO tie-ins soon.
