Celebrating 40 Years of LEGO Minifigures.

The year 2018 has a few milestone celebrations across multiple subjects and genres, but here’s one for LEGO enthusiasts that they’ll really dig. It concerns the 40th anniversary of one of the innovations developed by LEGO to further enhance the brick-construction experience: minifigures. Yes, LEGO-people are now four decades old.

Brick Fanatics elaborates that LEGO was making these little guys even before 1978, when the first minifigures (referred to as the pre-minifigure era) began to be included in selected sets. These prototypes were brick-built and too big for most LEGO sets, and the ones produced shortly before that year were armless mini-statues.

Post-1978 however, the shape of those little plastic guys that populated LEGO playsets began to be standard fare: the articulaed legs, 5-piece torso with movable arms and trademark C-shaped hands, and of course the ever smiling minifigure head. They started out as civilians to fill out locations and eventually played various jobs and roles in their brick-built community.

Afterwards, LEGO minifigures evolved from original creations to depictions of fictional characters from the deluge of licensed franchises that the company has made playsets for over the years. And in all those times the shape and mechanics didn’t change, only the material construction, to make them sturdier to wear-and-tear.

Originally targeted only at younger builders, LEGO was quick to notice that the little plastic figures have also become a favorite among older kids and even adults, and starting from 2007 almost every major LEGO set has a minifgure or two. LEGO even came up with a line of Collectible Minifigures, all unique on its own, and wrapped it up in a mysterious blind bag.

So there it is: we are now in the 40th year of the long-running design for LEGO minifigures, and you can bet there will be tributes to that milestone in several upcoming sets. One in particular that was revealed so far is the upcoming LEGO CMF Series 18 where a Police Officer minifigure is said to be designed after the same minifig found in LEGO set 600. Definitely, it is one cool throwback for the iconic symbol of the LEGO brand.

Needless to say, this year is going to be a cool celebration of four decades of brick-building fun, and LEGO’s minifigures will always be around to ensure that. Lloyd is Back as His ‘LEGO Ninjago Movie’ Minifigure Polybag (30609) Returns with Target

It’s nice of LEGO to sometimes give collectors who might have missed a promotional product or two in the past another chance (or two) to pick those uncommon items up. Their latest promotional comeback involves their previous feature-length CG-animated adventure The LEGO Ninjago Movie, which premiered last September.

One of the special promotional packages that were released back then was a minifigure polybag of LEGO Ninjago lead character Lloyd Garmadon (30609). Fans of the Ninjago line can now get another crack at collecting the badass ninja hero over at Target. They’re making him available not only in stores but online too.

That seems to be standard operating procedure for LEGO to give rereleases of past promotions to major retailers like Target or Toys ‘R’ Us, if they’re not carrying the items on their own Shop@Home. Those who are looking to pick up the Lloyd (30609) minifgure can do so in two ways.

The polybag in itself is selling at the retail price of $2.99 on Target. Alternatively, if shoppers can rack up a minimum total $29.99 purchase of LEGO Ninjago products, they’ll receive one Lloyd (30609) polybag for free. If LEGO Ninjago’s your thing, here’s your second chance to find the ninja within ya.

This Year’s First Waves of LEGO Toys R Us Briktober Exclusives Revealed!

For the past years, TRU has celebrated the month of October with a series of exclusive, limited edition minifigures to mark what has been dubbed as TRU’s Bricktober sales. 2016 saw four LEGO minifigure sets released by TRU per week for the whole month of October consisting of a Musicians (Week 1), Warrior (Week 2), Athletes (Week 3), and Cops and Robbers (Week 4) packs. These minifigures packs were given for free for a minimum purchase of any LEGO products worth $50 and above at all participating Toys R Us in the US and some parts of the globe.

This year, TRU is keeping the tradition alive with the latest reveal of its exclusive Bricktober minifigure sets, and this time, we now have our first images of these prized minifigs courtesy of Promobricks. These reveals covers Weeks 2 and 3 of the series, with LEGO Classic and Ninjago slated to be revealed anytime soon.

As you can see, each set consists of four minifigures, and though I haven’t seen any of the LEGO Ninjago Movie and Classic Bricktober minifigures, the LEGO Batman Movie Bricktober minifigs already won my heart. All of Batman’s iterations included in this set don’t disappoint. I’m personally looking forward to that Roman Soldier Batman minifig with its cool bat-themed shield and armor/torso.

There’s no official word from TRU as of the moment, but we expect that they will be releasing a flyer of their own October LEGO calendar, similar to the one that they gave last year.

It is fair to assume that qualifying LEGO purchases required to avail these exclusive minifigs will most likely fall between $50 to $75 US dollars given their previous promotionals. Possible Names of All the LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 17 (71018) Revealed!

With the dust now settling from the excitement surrounding the sets that LEGO has unveiled during this year’s New York Toy Fair, let’s now get a closer look at each of these starting with the next line of LEGO’s collectible minifigures (CMF). The LEGO CMF Series 17 (71018) of the LEGO CMF has received plenty of mixed reactions from the LEGO fan community, but for every minifig completionist by heart, this is one series that you don’t want to miss.

The set itself contains 16 minifigures (with one still waiting to be revealed, though it is rumored to be a sort of a French Highwayman) and thanks to Robert8 over at Eurobricks, we now have a tentative list of names for each minifig in this series. We may not be able to see the entire figures yet, let alone see the confirmation of the names of these characters, but we will wait and see until LEGO releases their official press release and official images of their CMF Series 17. In the meantime, let see what these names are and what clues they can provide about the minifigs’ features and characteristics. Force Friday’s LEGO Star Wars Darth Revan Mishap is Quite Discouraging.

We’re still a couple of hours away before this year’s Force Friday is officially over, yet it seems that it’s a wrap up already for some of LEGO’s promotional offers. After the announcement of the LEGO Star Wars Darth Revan minifigure promotional, most of us were excited, with raised hopes of having this exclusive minifig which was last offered back in 2014. We reported earlier that this hard-to-find minifig will be available for FREE for any purchase of LEGO Star Wars product. The catch? It is only offered for a day, which is, as we know, during Force Friday.

However, things didn’t turn out well for those who opted to wait patiently via shop.LEGO.com. Aesthetically good as it may seem, the revamped LEGO website seemed to have issues that caused a lot of heartaches for those who were looking forward to add this elusive minifig to their collection. As it turned out, the Darth Revan minifigure is no longer available and may have run out already. A quick browse over at shop.LEGO.com now reveals that the said minifigure is no longer attached as a promotional, but instead for some regions, it is the LEGO Nexo Knights Ultimate Lavaria 70335 or the LEGO Star Wars First Order Stormtrooper 30602 (if you’re in the UK), that keeps on popping up as shared by some of our Facebook visitors.

This turned out to be a huge disappointment especially for those who were waiting to purchase online the latest LEGO Star Wars Rogue One sets. Several fans lamented on the fact that the said sets were not yet available for purchase via shop.LEGO.com, with only a frustrating ‘Coming Soon’ remark appearing for the first 4 to 6 hours after Force Friday officially kicked in. Unfortunately, when the LEGO Rogue One sets were finally made available for online purchase, it seems that the Darth Revan minifig has already run out which really turned off most LEGO Star Wars fans and collectors. To be fair to LEGO, they always have this disclaimer that this exclusive promotional is available only while supplies last. They will always add it in the fine print as you can see below. But technical glitches such as these do not level the playing field so to speak. We’re not sure as of the moment if this is an inventory oversight on LEGO’s part or just a technical issue with the website, but one thing is for sure: most devoted LEGO Star Wars fans were not happy.

In any case, those who still opted make their purchase online are still treated with Double VIP points in the US, and even Triple VIP points in the UK and some parts of Europe.

We’re a few hours away from the launch of this year’s Star Wars Force Friday, and The LEGO Group has definitely something in store for all the Star Wars faithful. Let’s take a look at some exclusives that LEGO has cued in for release tomorrow.

The LEGO Star Wars UCS Death Star 75159 and Escape the Space Slug Set.

LEGO VIP members who missed out on the first brick-built iteration of the planetary weapon, now has the chance of owning this piece of Star Wars icon with the LEGO Star Wars UCS Death Star 75159. Though much has been said (or ranted) about this rehash of the older UCS Death Star 10188, there is still some considerable hype and expectation for this set once it is made available to the general public on Friday.

Another set to look forward to is the exclusive (and should I say elusive) promotional LEGO Star Wars Escape the Space Slug set. As we have noted earlier, the highly prized set comes as a prize for winning VIP winners who have either purchased the LEGO Star Wars UCS Death Star 75159 from September 15-30, or those who have registered via email. You still have a chance to earn a raffle entry for the set’s sweepstakes which will end on September 30 at 11:59 EST. This time, there’s only a total of 120 LEGO Escape the Space Slug sets to be raffled throughout the US and Canada so you can just imagine how valuable this set will be later on.

The LEGO Star Wars Darth Revan and First Order General Minifigures

For those of you have missed on the promotional LEGO Star Wars Darth Revan minifigure back in 2014, now is the best time to have it for FREE! You must be quick though, since this time, the minifig will only be offered for a day together with a purchase of any LEGO Star Wars sets during Force Friday. It seems that there are no other conditions attached to this promotional other than the fact that it comes for free with a LEGO Star Wars purchase AND it is only offered for one day. If Force Friday is not a good enough reason to invest in some LEGO Star Wars sets, then probably throwing in a LEGO Darth Revan minifig for free will definitely sweeten the deal.

Other than free posters and shirts that celebrate Force Friday, Toys R Us stores across the US will be giving away a FREE LEGO Star Wars First Order General minifigure for any qualifying LEGO Star Wars purchase of $30 and above. However, unlike the Darth Revan minifig, the First Order General may also be purchased as a polybag for $4.99 and will be available as supplies last. LEGO Star Wars Rogue One Sets

Of course, do we need to say more about this? It’s an all-out frenzy once the latest addition to the LEGO Star Wars theme hits shelves on Force Friday. With five sets and three buildable figures based on the highly anticipated Star Wars Rogue One film, LEGO and Star Wars fans have been waiting patiently for these sets to be unveiled. Plus, with the freebies and double VIP points that you can get for any qualifying LEGO Star Wars purchase, this is one Force Friday that you will surely don’t want to miss. Take A Look At This Neat Feel Guide For The LEGO Collectible Minifigure Series 16 (71013).

Since the report that some Toys R Us stores has already been selling the much awaited LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 16 (71013), there has been some fair degree of confusion going on what is the actual or official release date of this latest minifig series. There have been some initial reports that mention a September debut, alongside of the LEGO Disney Castle, as mentioned by CM4Sci over at Eurobricks.

However, there is a pretty good deal of evidence showing that most LEGO minifig collectors have already gotten their hands full with these latest LEGO minifigure collection, with some of them sharing their ‘feel guides’. Minifigure Price Guide and The Family Brick have both recently published their respective feel guides which we would like to summarize below. LEGO Unveils Its New Line Of DC Comics Superheroes Mighty Micros Sets For 2017 Ahead of San Diego Comic-Con.

LEGO just recently announced via its Facebook page that we’ll be seeing more of its adorable chibi-sized LEGO Mighty Micros just in time for another great set of reveals at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) next month.

LEGO is known for featuring new sets and memorabilia during the said annual comic convention, and this time, excitement is building on what LEGO will unveil at the San Diego Convention Center come by July 21 to 24. Featuring the cute and miniaturized versions of our iconic DC superheroes together with their arch enemies, LEGO is expected to feature each of them during the SDCC. However, it is wise to keep our hands to ourselves since these LEGO Mighty Micros will not be available in the market until its launch day sometime next year. This confirms that LEGO has more in store for us with the Mighty Micros theme until 2017, and more so under the DC Super Heroes banner.

Retailing next year at $9.99 each, these Mighty Micros feature classics such as Batman and Killer Moth, Wonder Woman VS Doomsday, and Superman VS Bizaaro as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Batman is featured in his classic caped crusader outfit together with the retro Batcopter, as he squares off with Killer Moth’s bug mobile. LEGO’s clever use of clear, transparent bricks outlines Wonder Woman’s Invisible Jet as she faces the might of Doomsday. Finally, Superman battles his bizarre doppelganger, Bizarro, who now happens to be made available in a set rather than as a SDCC exclusive.
