“LEGO DC Character Encyclopedia New Edition” Features Free Exclusive Val-Zod Superman Minifigure

Advertisements

LEGO visual encyclopedias produced by UK publisher DK tend to release new editions every few years. That’s only natural. LEGO constantly releases new sets and minifigure characters that need referencing sooner or later. So why bother buying new volumes of the technically the same LEGO books? How about the exclusive minifigs you get from the cover? In the case of DK’s LEGO DC Visual Dictionary/Character Encyclopedia, their exclusives tend to be uncommon DC characters. Said characters tend to be variants of well-established DC superheroes. The upcoming LEGO DC Character Encyclopedia – New Edition is no exception. What a deep comic-book cut their exclusive cover minifigure is.

According to Brick Fanatics, buyers of the new LEGO DC Character Encyclopedia from DK can get a rare Val-Zod minifig. In simple terms, Val-Zod is Superman in DC Comics’ Earth-2 continuity. For a more detailed explanation, this is Earth-2 as established in DC’s “New 52” franchise revamp/”reboot” in 2011. Val-Zod is another Kryptonian survivor: an orphan cared for by Jor-El and a friend of Kara Zor-El (Supergirl). He is of the same family as classic Superman foe General Zod, but explaining that will take too much time. But don’t worry. Val-Zod earned being called Superman.

The minifigure’s design capture’s Val-Zod’s most iconic looks as bearer of the Superman title in his Earth-2 continuity. One reason for him getting a LEGO minifig might be early franchise promotion. You see, HBO Max is developing a streaming series about Val-Zod. As for the LEGO DC Character Encyclopedia – New Edition, it’s priced at $21.99 and due to release in May next year. Amazon preorders are now available.

LEGO Batmobile Tumbler Returns in Two New Sets (76240, 76239)

Advertisements

Released by Warner Bros. from 2005 to 2012, the “Dark Knight Trilogy” Batman movies have been counted as one of the best trilogies produced. Thanks to a Warner-LEGO partnership that created “The LEGO Movie” in 2014, the DKT also received lots of brick-set love. That same year saw the LEGO DC line roll out the “Dark Knight” Batmobile, aka the Tumbler (76023). It was a beautiful black beast of a hero-vehicle with Batman and Joker minifigures included. It may be retired now, but LEGO remembers a hit design. That might explain the reason behind these two new offerings for the iconic LEGO Batmobile Tumbler.

Brickset dug up info on these sets from Japan, of all places. One version, listed on Amazon Japan, appears to be a revamp of the 2014 LEGO DC Tumbler (76023). Its new number is 76240, with 2,049 pieces to the former’s 1,869. Looks-wise, it seems to be a bit more detailed than set 76023. It even comes with a rotating stand for static display. The included Batman and Joker minifigs also sport new looks and a more gothic-themed display ledge.

Next, let’s look at another brick version of the Tumbler that popped up on Japanese retail chain Yodobashi’s website. The LEGO Batmobile Tumbler: Scarecrow Showdown (76239) clocks in at 422 pieces and is a much simpler version of set 76240. The set comes with forward-firing stud-shooters and what seems to be a new minifigure version of the villainous Scarecrow.

Amazon Japan’s listing of the larger LEGO Batmobile Tumbler (76240) will go on sale on November 1 and is priced at 25,330 Yen ($230). Yodobashi’s listing for the LEGO Batmobile Tumbler: Scarecrow Showdown (76239) on the other hand will arrive earlier on October 1. They’re pricing their set at just 6,000 Yen or $55. Of course, it’s likely LEGO Shop@Home and other retailers around the world will have begun listing these two by then. We’ll see if these estimated dollar conversions of the Japanese retail prices are spot on. We’ll also give you further updates once these new LEGO Batmobile Tumbler sets are listed at LEGO’s home shopping portals.

LEGO Rolls Out Two New LEGO DC Super Heroes Batmobile Sets

Advertisements

A Vietnamese toy retailer has revealed two new LEGO DC Super Heroes Batmobile sets that take their cue from the Batman classic TV series. MyKingdom has published their set images and names, with the option of purchasing them directly from their online shopping portal.

The LEGO DC Super Heroes Batman vs The Joker Batmobile chase (76180) is a 4+ set that features a classic, scaled-down version of the Batmobile designed with younger LEGO fans in mind. Its design is somewhat similar to its larger 18+ cousin, the LEGO 1989 Batmobile (76139). It includes minifigures of Batman and the Joker, and what looks to be a new rendition of the Batgirl.

The LEGO DC Super Heroes Batman Classic TV Series Batmobile (76188) is more like a re-release of the portion of 2016’s direct-to-consumer (D2C) LEGO Batman Classic TV Series – Batcave (76052). This re-issued version of the Batmobile even has an information plate giving it a certain premium feel in such modest size. It also comes with minifigs of the 1966 classic TV versions of Batman and Joker. If you missed out on the LEGO Batcave from five years ago, and wish to add this classic version of the LEGO Batmobile, and then here’s your second chance to get it without diving deep into your pockets.

There is no further information as of this posting regarding the piece count and US retail price of these new LEGO Batmobile sets. I’ll give you updates soon as they make their appearance over at LEGO Shop@Home.

The Starter Course Set 2 is quite interesting and we’ll have to see how this will turn out.

LEGO Harry Potter

This is an exhaustive list though since we can still expect plenty of new information to come in as we approach the last quarter of this year. However, since LEGO is quite mum about these things, for now, I highly suggest that we consider all of these things for the rumors that they really are for the time being. Unless we hear LEGO’s official press release and product reveal regarding its upcoming LEGO sets, then let’s take this piece of news with a healthy amount of salt.

Exclusive LEGO DC Fandome Supergirl Minifigure Unveiled

Advertisements

The first installment of DC Fandome’s virtual comic book convention has been concluded, and if you’re one of the fortunate souls that managed to join in their event sweepstakes, then you are probably aware that one of the uber-cool prizes that will be given away is the exclusive LEGO DC Fandome Supergirl minifigure.

Just to be precise, the DC Fandome sweepstakes is already closed. And if you missed out on that window of opportunity, then I guess we just have to stay tuned if another similar sweepstakes prize will be offered again on September 12 when DC Fandome launches its second virtual event. If you’re also residing outside of the US, then your chances of having this exclusive and limited edition LEGO DC Fandome Supergirl minifigure is either through eBay or a friend that is both lucky and kind enough to give you his/her minifigure winning.

In case you’re wondering, this minifig version of Supergirl is based on Melissa Benoist’s on-screen rendition of Kara Zor-El, as seen on CW’s Supergirl Season 5. This newer LEGO version of Supergirl stays true to her new looks, favoring dark blue pants over her iconic skirt. Plus the much-talked-about change in her hairstyle is also reflected in the minifigure hairpiece. As noted by The Brothers Brick, while the legs and torso prints are unique to this LEGO DC Fandome Supergirl, the hairpiece is taken from Series 20’s Pyjama Girl, so this particular LEGO element is not entirely new.

Again, this particular sweepstake draw is already over, and if in case you’re one of the 1,495 winners of the LEGO DC Fandome Supergirl minifigure, then perhaps you can drop us a comment below and share to us what your initial impressions of this LEGO exclusive.

Limited Edition LEGO DC Wonder Woman (77906) Officially Revealed

Advertisements

DC FanDome’s first half of its virtual comic-con may all be over, but it seems the excitement doesn’t stop there. Following the reveal of the new Wonder Woman 1984 trailer which gives our first look at Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah, now comes a new LEGO product listing that celebrates the film’s classic comic book roots. LEGO Shop@Home has now listed the limited edition LEGO DC Wonder Woman (77906), scheduled to be released on October 1st.

Right off the bat, the LEGO DC Wonder Woman (77906) set follows the recognizable Comic-Con style box art reminiscent of previous SDCC offerings. This strengthens the notion that this may probably be intended to be offered as a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, but because of the on-going pandemic, LEGO has to do some contingency plans on how this may be offered to the market. This vignette type of set is very much reminiscent of that to the LEGO Captain Marvel and the ASIS (77902) and the LEGO DC Dark Knight of Gotham City (77903) both exclusively offered during last year’s SDCC.

Some things worth noting here are first, LEGO opted to have this listed for pre-order, helping TLG determine how much sets will it need to produce within a month before its official release in October. And second, it looks like the set will only be offered in the US, which is not really good news to other LEGO fans across the globe. Frankly, I’m still a bit puzzled on how LEGO comes across with some of these geographical restrictions, while still committing on the idea of doing away with its regional exclusives. Whatever is the case, I think fans will appreciate it if LEGO clarifies these things.

Here are the product details of the new LEGO DC Wonder Woman (77906) including some official images. This set is expected to retail for $39.99 in the US and comes with the minifigure versions of the classic Wonder Woman, her arch-nemesis Cheetah, and Wonder Woman’s trusted confidant Etta Candy. You may click on the following affiliate link if you wish to add this to your LEGO wishlist. While you’re at it, you may also like to check another tie-in set which is the LEGO Wonder Woman vs Cheetah (76157), currently available at LEGO Shop@Home.

New LEGO Brick Sketches Theme Revealed – Arriving June 1st

Here’s another surprise from LEGO. Brickset has just revealed that LEGO will be releasing a new LEGO Brick Sketches theme, with four licensed sets – from Star Wars and DC Comics in particular – included in its initial roster.

If you find the LEGO Brick Sketches familiar, that’s because the designer for these sets is none other than ace MOC builder Chris McVeigh. The idea of having a brick-built sketch or drawing was in Chris’ thoughts since 2016, and if you’ll check his Flickr account, you’ll see some of his initial brick sketches mostly focusing on Star Wars characters. I’m glad to see that his work is now recognized by LEGO since he became part of the elite LEGO Design Team more than a year ago. You may also want to check his website where he offers the building instructions for some of his original creations for free.

LEGO Brick Sketches sets are yet to be listed at LEGO Shop@Home, but Huw from Brickset mentions that we can expect them to be available beginning June 1. For a closer look at what these sets offer (which I believe will be more appealing to AFOLs), you may want to check Brickset’s extensive review of the LEGO Brick Sketches The Joker (40428). In the meantime, you may want to take a look at their respective box arts below courtesy of Brickset.
