The LEGO Movie 2 Official Trailer Finally Released – And It Looks Like Things Are Still Going To Be Awesome

After getting our first teaser poster, the much awaited The LEGO Movie 2 trailer has been finally dropped by LEGO and Warner Animation Group. In the trailer, we are shown a somewhat post-apocalyptic Bricksburg following the tragic events of Taco Tuesday where Duplo-like creatures from outer space went on a rampage on the city, leaving the place in ruins. Check out the trailer below.

Based on an article/synopsis from Deadline, the LEGO Movie 2 will set our brick heroes five years in the future following the events of Taco Tuesday where the first film ended. This new threat of LEGO Duplo invaders has plunged Bricksburg into chaos, leaving the once booming and cheery town into a Mad Max-kind of living. As Lucy (Wyldstyle) puts it, this hardened them to survive the tough living conditions they’re in, well except for good ‘ol Emmet who still managed to be overly optimistic.

Eventually, it looks like Emmet is off to another mission not just to restore harmony to their brick-built universe but also to save his friends from the hands of a new character called Sweet Mayhem. I’m not quite sure if her character will eventually turn out to be detrimental to Emmet and to the rest of the team, since it seems that the real objective is to fend off the overpowered LEGO Duplo creatures. We just have to wait and find out.

Deadline also mentions that The LEGO Movie 2 will bring Emmet, Lucy, Batman and the rest of the gang to faraway, and unexplored musical worlds in order to discover the means to defeat the towering LEGO Duplo aggressors. We have to wait and see how this ‘musical’ aspect of the film will be reconciled with the somewhat depressing mood at the beginning of the film following the destruction of Bricksburg. Furthermore, being a film that combines all the best of what LEGO has to offer, I wouldn’t be surprised if LEGO will thrown in a LEGO Worlds-like environment where the S-Star (I hope I spelled it right) system can be portrayed.

Another thing that I am excited about is the new characters that the sequel will introduce: we have the Friends-inspired Sweet Mayhem, and the yet-to-be revealed Ice Cream Cone and Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi. We also get a glimpse of a new, and fiercer Unikitty which for me will look great as an actual LEGO set. Benny also had a reboot with a new cyborg-like arm, as well as Batman in a yet another new costume.

Other than hoping to see this version of Unikitty being part of an upcoming LEGO set, it would be great to have this modified version of Emmet’s house-turned-spaceship into another TLM2 set.

The LEGO Movie 2 is slated to hit theaters on February 9, and voiced by the same awesome artists from the first film such as Chris Pratt (Emmet), Elizabeth Banks (Lucy), and Will Arnett (LEGO Batman) among others. So what do you think? What other potential LEGO sets can you spot in this trailer? What twists and turns does LEGO and Warner Animation Group has in store for The LEGO Movie 2? Let’s talk about it in the comments below.
