Next “LEGO DC Super-Villains” DLC Honors “Origin” of Animated DC – “Batman: The Animated Series”

As the 1990s rolled in, DC’s most recent mass media presence via Warner Bros. was 1989’s “Batman,” a hit, and 1987’s “Superman IV: The Quest for Peace,” which was not. DC superheroes outside of comics were only in cinemas, and not always great. Thankfully a “rebirth” then turned things around.

That rebirth is the central theme for the newest batch of downloadable content for “LEGO DC Super-Villains” from WB Interactive and Traveller’s Tales. Superhero fans who grew up in the nineties will appreciate the add-on, based on “Batman: The Animated Series.” That show’s easily one of the main pillars of TV entertainment from the decade.

Premiering in 1992, “Batman: The Animated Series” reinvigorated the DC hero stable for TV, made Batman an equal to Superman (and sometimes superior) as flagship character for DC, laid the foundation for the DC Animated Universe franchise, and pretty much solidified the Warner-DC creative force.

On the occasion of Batman’s 80th anniversary in 2019 (as of this March), WBI-TT will be launching a “Batman: The Animated Series” DLC for “LDCSV.” Game owners can begin downloading this added content on March 19. If they have the deluxe version with the Season Pass, that download is free.

WB Interactive Entertainment has yet to elaborate on what goodies the DLC contains, but they’ll have new outfits for Batman and his cast based on the 4-season cartoon show. Even here there’s several costume variations like the “bat in yellow circle” chest logo, or Catwoman’s grey and black cat-suits (the latter with pale facial makeup). New levels are also promised.

Having a DLC focused on animated Batman is a welcome change from previous big DLC releases for “LEGO DC Super-Villains” which were keyed to the live-action DCEU film franchise. The game is available on Windows, Xbox One, PS4 and Switch.
