LEGO Rebrick’s Build Your Gateway Contest officially ended its submission of entries last May 16 and since then, an expert panel of judges from the LEGO Dimensions team, including representatives from the LEGO Systems, Inc., WB Games, and TT Games reviewed all 115 entries submitted to determine who deserves the honor of being recognized as the coolest, customized LEGO Dimensions portal ever built.
After more than a month of brainstorming and deliberation, we now have a grand champion through the work of yop1172. Entitled as Bonus Gateway, his MOC features all of 14 LEGO Dimensions’ worlds as seen in the game rendered in micro-scale form. Though our own selections didn’t make it to the cut, the judges did an excellent job in choosing the winner.
Yop1172’s digital, micro-scale LDD renditions are absolutely fantastic, especially when you think about how he/she was able to fit all 14 worlds in such a cramped space. Using symbols and shapes that are commonly associated with the worlds is an ingenious way of maximizing space provided by the Toy Pad’s platform – and the result is short of amazing. My personal favorites are the micro-scale versions of the Tardis, and the Dark Tower of Barad-dur from Lord of the Rings.
Other than the bragging rights, the grand prize winner gets to bring home a bounty which includes a LEGO Dimensions starter pack, 1 Level Pack of their own choosing, and a one-of-a-kind brick-built LEGO Doctor Who figure standing at 20 inches tall with an estimated value of $2,000 USD.
Just barely a month after their debut last May 14, LEGO sadly announced the (very) early retirement of their latest minifigure series, the LEGO Team DFB Die Mannschaft CMF 71014. If you recall our previous news on this football CMF series, LEGO intended to have this set of minifigs exclusively available in territories such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Its exclusivity was quite appealing even among LEGO fans that are not quite fond of the sport. The sad news was delivered by Brickset earlier today, as one of its forum members revealed what seems to be a legit correspondence from a LEGO Shop@Home representative. The following screen grab was said to be taken from a Facebook group page dedicated to trading and selling LEGO minifigures.
This was later on confirmed by another Brickset forum member, Tero, when he inquired why 71014 will no longer be available. LEGO was kind enough to reply and this is what their representative said.
We haven’t heard of any official press release from LEGO regarding the retirement of the LEGO Team DFB Mannschaft minifigures, but if we will consider the veracity of the above mentioned statements coming from certain LEGO reps, they’ve made it very clear that LEGO will no longer produce the said CMF. Though LEGO did not admit it directly, it seems to be a classic case of an absurdly high demand outweighing the supply – and a supply that will no longer be replenished unfortunately. It’s just mind-blowing to think how 30,000 minifigs were sold in as little as 24 hours.
For those who were fortunate enough to acquire the entire set of 16 minifigures such as the guys over at Bricks User Group from Singapore, kudos to you for acting early. I am not exactly a fan of football, but seeing how the LEGO community responded positively towards this series, we can expect that their value will skyrocket anytime soon over at eBay.

After the reveal of the surprising, out-of-the-blue, LEGO Star Wars Rebel A-Wing Pilot (5004408) a couple of weeks ago, we had our first sighting of this sweet deal as a promotional at LEGOLAND California over the weekend. According to Brick Fan, the said polybag was made given away for free for every purchase of applicable LEGO merchandise worth $30 and above. However, the said promotional only ran for 2 days during the weekend from June 4 to 5.
Though this is a very brief stint for a promotional, we’re quite optimistic that this minifigure will show up again at LEGO Stores. Similarly, From Bricks to Bothans also reported not one, but two more polybag exclusives sighted at LEGOLAND California, which we first reported at the start of this year. The LEGO Star Wars Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle (30279) and First Order Star Destroyer (30277) polybags had made their appearance and were on sale at around $4 each.
Currently, 30279 is now being offered as a Gamestop exclusive that comes bundled with the LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens video game to be released on June 28. We still have no clues if the First Order Star Destroyer (30277) is part of a larger promotional, but if our hunches are correct and knowing how LEGO usually bundles these polybags, we’re quite positive that we’ll get to see them again anytime soon.
With the Voltron – Defender of the Universe and Spaceballs – Eagle 5 coming in as the first two LEGO Ideas project that made it to the cut for this year’s Second LEGO Ideas Review Stage, we now have our third successful entry that just recently earned the nod of 10,000 supporters of the LEGO community.
The Addams Family Mansion by afol777 has now achieved the needed push to qualify it for an expert review of LEGO’s top designers and marketing representatives according to LEGO’s stringent criteria.
Based on the famous family sitcom of the same title during the 60’s, the LEGO Ideas Addams Family Mansion comes at an astounding 7,200 pieces: much larger than the LEGO Taj Mahal (10189) set that comes with 5,922 pieces. From the 1964-66 TV sitcom “The Addams Family”, this is the Mansion and family! The project is an “end of series” anniversary tribute to the last new episode aired on April 8, 1966 – 50 years ago!
The Addams Family was a group of fictional characters created by American cartoonist Charles Addams includes Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Lurch, Grandmama, Wednesday, Pugsley and Thing. They lived in this Mansion at 001 Cemetery Lane.

Well, frankly speaking, this piece of news might sting a little bit – especially for those who know how it feels to have a sore thumb for creating the most awesome MOCs around.
Shanghaiist reports a certain Chinese LEGO builder by the name of Zhao was commissioned to build a life-size, brick-built version of Nick Wilde from Disney’s Zootopia as part of an exhibition in Ningbo Wanda Plaza, a local shopping mall located in Ningbo, China. Using approximately 100,000 Chinese Yuan worth of LEGO bricks or more than $15,000 USD, Zhao spends 3 full days, round the clock, in making the 1.8 meter tall Nick Wilde figure. The build itself is very impressive as you can see from the photos below. The details in Nick’s brick-built head is absolutely gorgeous. Zhao outdid himself and is rightfully proud of his work.
Fantastic as his work may seem, Zhao did not realize that his masterpiece will be short-lived – in just less than an hour in fact. In an utterly heart-breaking moment, an unsupervised kid apparently scampered under the rope barrier and knocked off Zhao’s creation. The result was this:
That’s really harrowing.
As patient as he is (I guess he owes it to his countless hours of patiently working with LEGO bricks), Zhao did not blame the child for what happened, saying that the child doesn’t understand yet the consequences of his action. The parents of the unruly child were humble enough to apologize (well, they should be) for the disaster that their child caused, and even offered to pay for damages. Zhao kindly refused to accept the offer. However, he partially blames the staff of the mall for failing to ensure the security of his work, saying that if they were only vigilant in doing their job than probably this unfortunate event may not have happened.
Well, for one, I admire Zhao for his patience and level-headedness, but I have to say that the parents of this obviously ‘unsupervised’ child should also take the heat. Ropes are there for a reason and children needs to understand the boundaries and limitations that they represent.
Lesson: LEGOs are indeed fun and are intended for children to play with, but like any other form of play, parents are expected to watch over their children to make sure that nobody gets hurt and toppled in the process – especially in this case, a $15,000 worth of LEGO brick-built figure.
We’re just a couple of weeks away before the LEGO Creator Big Ben 10253 is released via VIP access and now, LEGO seems to have more in store for those who want to recreate the splendor of the 16-storey Gothic clock tower. Brickset recently reported what could be a promotional polybag to perfectly compliment the LEGO Creator Big Ben. As seen on the streets of London, the LEGO London Bus 40220 is an excellent companion for the brick-built version of the towering landmark.
We do not have complete information yet on the details of 40220’s distribution, though it was highly suggested over at Reddit that this could be a promotional that may go together with the LEGO Creator Big Ben. Furthermore, LEGO seems to be in the habit of early releasing either in part, or the full version of their promotionals’ building instructions (such as that of the LEGO 2016 Rio Olympics Mascots 40225 and LEGO Dimensions Supergirl 71340) through cache.LEGO.com. The LEGO London Bus is highly reminiscent of an earlier promotional, in-store exclusive that the LEGO Store in Westfield, London has given for free with any purchase from the said LEGO Store in February 27, 2011. Though both sets are based on the iconic red two-floor bus, the more recent LEGO London Bus 40220 is more impressive in spite of possibly using stickers for its decals. If you’re one of the blessed few who have already purchased LEGO’s latest flagship model under the Technic line since its official release yesterday, you know for a fact that what you have on your hands is a superb example of a marriage between ingenious engineering and highly detailed craftsmanship. The LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056) is LEGO’s recent masterpiece that befits the timeless appeal of the Porsche brand. Coming at 2,704 pieces, building the LEGO Technic Porsche is not a walk in a park. But for true-to-the-core LEGO builders such as the LEGO Technic experts over at Crowkillers, going through all 856 steps in order to build the 42056 is a pleasure that they will not definitely pass.
However, as impressive as this latest Technic set is, Crowkillers and other reviewers were quick to point out that the LEGO Technic Porsche is not without faults. In a Facebook post that the Crowkillers released yesterday, they were quick on their toes to notify those who recently bought the 42056 to be aware of the error that they found in its building instructions, particularly with regards to the gearbox.

It is correct that the gears in this model are not sequential as in the real Porsche PDK. This is however, a deliberate decision taken to ensure that we make the best possible LEGO version of this amazing car that both meets our design requirements and gives everyone a great building and product experience.
It was a considered decision taken during development that the gears running in the correct order meant that it did not result in a great experience when driving the car. Too many gears are engaged at the same time and smooth running with all those tolerances is just not possible.
If you switch the build in steps 267 and 269 the gears will run sequentially, and everyone who feels that this is the better solution should feel encouraged to do so.
LEGO Technic really is the ultimate open source design product and now that it is finally available, we look forward to seeing all the ‘improved’ models our fans create. After all, that is what LEGO building is all about.
We hope everyone will have a great building experience and feel a strong sense of pride from creating both our version and their very own LEGO Technic representation of a Porsche GT3 RS. Hearing LEGO’s official response to the issue was met with a spectrum of reactions and criticisms from the LEGO community, claiming that LEGO should have known about this error earlier, and solutions should have been considered already before the set was officially released. Others simply don’t buy LEGO’s explanation.
