UPDATE: Warner Bros’ Releases Statement – No Download Required To Play The Physical Version of LEGO City Undercover for the Nintendo Switch.

This is somewhat a breather for most of us who are looking forward to the release of LEGO City Undercover for the Nintendo Switch, due to be out on store shelves next week. We previously reported that the physical cart version of LEGO City Undercover for the Switch will require a hefty 13GB of storage space and an internet connection before playing the game. This is based on the photos of the actual box art that some store employees snapped when they received copies of the game ahead of its April 4 release.

According to IGN, a representative from Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment reached out to them and shared the following information that clarifies the “incorrect listing” on the game’s box. To quote,

“Players who purchase LEGO City Undercover on Nintendo Switch at retail do not need to download the game to play. The information is listed incorrectly (emphasis added) on the packaging of LEGO City Undercover for Nintendo Switch. Players who purchase a physical copy of LEGO City Undercover on Nintendo Switch at retail are getting the complete game, and do not need to download additional content to enjoy the full experience. An internet connection is not required to play the game. The only internet connection suggested is to download the typical content update patch.”

As it turned out, the required storage space mentioned on the box art was incorrect. WB makes it clear that Switch owners who will be purchasing, or may have pre-ordered LEGO City Undercover will be receiving the full game, and will not be required to download any additional content before they can enjoy the complete game. Internet connection will only be required for periodical or usual content updates.

This is a much welcomed announcement from WB Games, and we’ll be able to confirm everything once we have our hands on the game itself on April 4. The game will also be available for the WiiU, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam (PC).
