Towards the end of this week, one of LEGO’s limited-edition special sets from yesteryear, the Vestas Wind Turbine (4999) will be returning in a big way and a new line rebranding, as a LEGO Creator Expert set renumbered as 10268. It’s the same wind-energy turbine with Power Functions motor, improved.
When a LEGO set release (or re-release) gets to this level of hype that can only mean one thing online: a designer video showing the nitty-gritty of this awesome mechanized set. Once limited only to employees of Danish wind-turbine manufacturer Vestas, a partner of LEGO’s in its energy self-sufficiency drive, now the general LEGO fandom can enjoy its tall majesty.
Indeed, the Vestas Wind Turbine (10268) is one of the tallest LEGO sets out there, and its Creator Expert incarnation has some sustainable plant-based plastic materials among its 826 pieces. That’s two LEGO sustainability projects paid homage in one set.
LEGO senior designer Carl Merriam will talk viewers through the creation of the LEGO Creator Expert Vestas Wind Turbine (10268), which is priced at $199.99 and will arrive in LEGO Stores and Shop@Home this Friday, November 23. I’m sure it’ll look great when integrated with LEGO City sets to add some sustainable energy flavor to them; it’s minifigure-scaled, after all.
