If you’ve already seen the LEGO Movie 2 on its early viewing schedule yesterday Saturday, then you’ll probably know how the film effectively creates a virtually, never-ending loop of LSS (Last Song Syndrome) gag in your head. Just like the upbeat vibe of the hit song from the first film, everything is still awesome (somehow) with this sequel considering the reviews that the film has been receiving lately. Unlike the LEGO Movie’s theme song that easily communicated the fun in building LEGO sets with friends or family, the sequel’s choice of song to be its major theme is quite underwhelming. Listening to a 2-minute run of the LEGO Movie 2 Catchy Song is one thing, but listening to it for 5 hours is probably enough to give you the worst LSS ever. Watch it here, if you dare.
The 5-hour video loop of the LEGO Movie 2 Catchy Song is the idea of the film’s marketers, hoping to replicate the same success as that of the Everything is Awesome jingle. But honestly, who will listen to a 5-hour song whose only 1-liner lyrics says, “This song’s gonna get stuck inside your head”? I find it really mind-boggling if I find myself doing that.
The funny thing though is that the 5-hour long, obnoxious song actually has an ending. After listening to it for hours, the narrator says “Congratulations, if you are still listening, you are officially ready for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part.” Wow, talk about a whole new level of annoying, subliminal marketing control, if you believe in such things.
The LEGO Movie 2 is scheduled to arrive in all US theaters on February 8. New LEGO Movie 2 sets are now offered at shop.LEGO.com including the perfectly fun Welcome to Apocalypseburg (70840) set. A new set has also been revealed by LEGO in the form of The Rexcelsior! (70839) at the recently concluded 2019 London Toy Fair.
