Last February, LEGO fans were given a glimpse of the 5th exclusive set that can only be found in the LEGO Store in the famed Home of the Brick in Billund, Denmark. And this time around, the LEGO Building Systems 40505 set is another limited edition collectible that pays tribute to the enduring legacy of the humble LEGO brick.

And with its official reveal, we can now have a better look at what this unique set has to offer.

Exploring the LEGO Building Systems 40505 Set

This year, the LEGO Home pays homage to the roots of LEGO play by putting the spotlight on three iconic themes in its portfolio: the classic LEGO System, Technic, and DUPLO. These three systems come together to narrate the captivating story of the LEGO brand, and the LEGO Building Systems 40505 set perfectly captures three pivotal moments in its history.

This tribute of a set kicks off with a nod to the groundbreaking LEGO System in Play. Back in 1955, the introduction of Town Plan No.1 revolutionized the world of building toys, establishing the LEGO System in Play as the cornerstone of creativity and imagination. Crafted by the visionary mind of Godtfred Kirk Christiansen himself, this innovative concept aimed to nurture a child’s imagination and foster the joy of creating using LEGO bricks– values that remain at the core of the LEGO Play experience to this day.

Miniature Marvels of Iconic LEGO Models as Seen in the LEGO Building Systems 40505

Other than the timeless elegance of Town Plan No. 1, the LEGO Building Systems 40505, also puts the spotlight on the vibrant LEGO DUPLO Passenger Train reminiscent of the 1980s. Similarly, it also adds another classic to its miniature tribute of another timeless classic. While the pistons of the LEGO Technic Car Chassis may not spring to life like in its original counterpart, every other detail has been meticulously recreated to evoke a sense of nostalgia and wonder.

Town Plan No. 1, revered among LEGO aficionados, serves as a testament to the enduring appeal of LEGO play, sparking memories and storytelling among fans of all ages. Meanwhile, the DUPLO Passenger Train and Technic Car Chassis both beckon forth a wave of fond recollections from days gone by.

A Journey Through LEGO History

Similar to 2018’s LEGO promotional set, 60 Years of the LEGO Brick (40290), the LEGO Building Systems 40505 also includes several nano-scale models at the back side of this brick-built display. Behind the grey facade lies a captivating timeline featuring iconic milestones from LEGO’s illustrious history. From iconic The Wooden Duck to Technic Space Shuttle set 8480, each nano-build defines a period of LEGO’s rich and creative history.

With a total of 19 nano-builds waiting to be discovered, there’s no shortage of marvels to behold in the LEGO Building Systems 40505. And if that’s not enough, there’s even a space in that cleverly built display encouraging you to add your own LEGO masterpiece. After all, LEGO play is about more than just building – it’s about creating memories that last a lifetime.
