LEGO has further fanned the hype flame when it released another teaser via Facebook and Twitter about its next LEGO Creator Expert set. After getting confirmation from a pre-order announcement released by a LEGO certified store in Budapest, this next teaser from LEGO actually placed this in stone that this much rumored set is indeed the LEGO Creator Expert Aston Martin DB5 (10262).
LEGO has been heavily teasing fans about this set for several days already, with the Aston Martin DB5 (10262) rumored to be at par in terms of scale to other LEGO Creator Expert sets such as the Volkswagen Beetle (10252) and the Ferrari F40 (10248). True to its word, LEGO has marketed its Aston Martin DB5 set with the strictest secrecy, and we have no idea yet of its piece count or any other features except perhaps for its rough silhouette as shown in the promotional ad of the above mentioned LEGO Store in Budapest.
The Aston Martin DB5 is almost always associated with the James Bond franchise, and the way LEGO has promoted its brick-built counterpart has added more fuel to the fire of speculations that LEGO may somehow be looking at the possibility of having this as an official LEGO James Bond set. This also leads to the possibility that for the first time ever, that LEGO may have planned to include an actual James Bond LEGO minifigure together with the Aston Martin DB5 (10262) – a first to any LEGO Creator Expert set as of to date which makes it more exciting.
However, some have criticized the move, with sincere LEGO fans believing that the James Bond franchise is not a good fit for the LEGO brand. But it should be noted that LEGO is no stranger in partnering with third-party licenses that does not necessarily intend, or cater to children. The now discontinued LEGO Dimensions theme is a perfect example of this, with the likes of Mission Impossible, the A-Team, and Beetlejuice just to name a few, getting their own LEGO branding and minifigs. Clearly, if ever LEGO will go towards that direction of offering either a singular James Bond-inspired set, or go all-out with a complete theme, will be revealed in the next few days.
