LEGO Star Wars May the 4th 2023: Everything You Need to Know

LEGO Star Wars fans, mark your calendars because May the 4th event is just around the corner! Let’s take a look at the recently revealed LEGO Star Wars May the 4th offerings that will be available during this much-anticipated event. Plus the best deals and free gifts that you can grab during the celebrations.

LEGO Star Wars May the 4th 2023: Freebies with Purchases

This year’s LEGO Star Wars May the 4th promotions will run from May 1 to 7, 2023 as mentioned over at the LEGO online shop campaign page. However, many deals at individual retailers will remain unknown until the actual event kicks off on May 4th.

The LEGO online shop usually has the most important promotions for LEGO Star Wars fans during this event, even if the discounts are traditionally the lowest there. This is due to the often attractive new releases in the past, but above all, to the free gifts which can be yours for certain qualifying purchases. And these freebies can become quite expensive on reselling sites as we’ve seen in the past.

For this year, there will be a lot of LEGO Star Wars May the 4th free gifts that will be up for grabs or while supplies last. Now is the great time to be a LEGO VIP member since many of these freebies will be unlocked along with your VIP perks. As of to date, there are three Gift with Purchase (GWP) items that are already confirmed.

LEGO Star Wars Death Star II (40591)

The minimum qualifying purchase to bag this set has dropped slightly compared to last year. This LEGO Star Wars May the 4th promo will be available for all LEGO Star Wars purchases of $150 or more. This gift-with-purchase set is scheduled to be available from May 1st to May 7th, 2023, while supplies last.

Build and Take Home a Frankenstein Head at LEGO Branded Stores Next Week

We’re just about to wind up the month of October, and followers of holidays know what that means. Yep, Halloween 2022 is just a mere two Mondays from now. And while LEGO already has some Halloween-themed goodies lined up, there’s still more in store. Ah, “in store”. Speaking of which, LEGO Brand Stores all over have their own little event to celebrate All Hallows’ with. As The Brick Fan would have it, this is another in-store free-build opportunity for young LEGO builders. And the “spooky” build for this year will be the head of a famous and classic movie monster.

Next week on Wednesday and Thursday, October 26-27, build a LEGO Frankenstein’s Monster to take home! Starting at 5PM local time on LEGO Branded Stores near you, get a chance to create Frankie with your kids. Yeah, that late afternoon timeslot makes for a Halloween-y feel before October 31 itself. These LEGO Stores will have limited materials each day to provide visitors for building Frankenstein’s Monster. Only those who have completed their builds can take them home, and the freebies can’t be conventionally purchased. It also means participating guests are first come, first served at their local LEGO Branded Store.

Get These Creator Polybags During LEGO Day at Macy’s Toys R Us Stores this Saturday

With a lengthy history at its back, it’s no small wonder that the LEGO brand has become quite ubiquitous. No toy retail chain worth its prominence would ever lack LEGO products in stock. And at times, some of the biggest toy store names have entered promotional partnerships with LEGO over the years. The most obvious example of this marketing synergy may well be Toys R Us, home of the annual Bricktober events. Not even the momentary disappearance of TRU in North America dampened this partnership. With Toys R Us back as stores within Macy’s, LEGO’s gearing up to celebrate with them again this coming weekend.

0007 1132

The Brick Fan reports that LEGO Day 2022 is on at Macy’s and their Toys R Us stores. Regular LEGO shoppers at Macy’s better clear calendars on Saturday, October 22. When you drop in at the TRU store-within-the store, they’re in for some nice LEGO collectibles. The pack consists of an issue of “LEGO Life” Magazine, a LEGO-Macy’s-TRU birthday postcard, and 2021’s Creator Clown polybag (30565). And that’s just for when you come in! On your way out you’ll receive another grab bag. This is a collection of various toy brands at Toys R Us Macy’s. LEGO too has an item there: Creator Parrot (30472).

You can tell this will be a fun LEGO Day weekend at Macy’s TRU stores. It’s on at every location, and will be available all Saturday or until the polybag supplies last, whichever comes first.

LEGO House Skaerbaek 2022 Gives Away 3D-Printed Mini-Wooden Duck Piece

Before developing the plastic building bricks synonymous with its name today, the LEGO company had an earlier iconic “face” toy. Founder Ole Kirk Christiansen was a carpenter; thus, LEGO’s original products were traditional wooden toys. One item in particular stood out in historical memory: a wooden duck on wheels. Pull it along and the wheel mechanism makes the duck’s beak open and close ala “quacking”. LEGO certainly remembers this early toy fondly enough to give it an official LEGO-brick set. True, it’s only exclusive to LEGO House Billund, but it’s there. And this year it even got a limited-edition miniature.

Brick Fanatics reports to us that LEGO “released” another LEGO House exclusive based on their classic wooden duck. Actually, the item was a giveaway at the recent AFOL event Skaerbaek Fan Weekend at LEGO House Billund. On Friday, September 23, event-goers who bought exclusive AFOL Day 2022 minifigures received a minifig-sized plastic duck accessory. This unique LEGO piece came to be thanks to 3D-printing, a LEGO first for plastic pieces. Amazingly, even for its size the plastic duck replicates its larger original’s quacking function when rolled along flat surfaces. It even features a front handle fitting a minifigure’s hands for posing.

This LEGO minifig-scale duck toy is bound to become a new rare find after this one-off event. Will it come back in future occasions? We can always believe in possibilities. A Minifigure Factory created the Skaerbaek AFOL 2022 limited minifigures. Maybe other LEGO locations with the Minifigure Factory could offer the duck as an accessory. Only time will tell.

LEGO Brick Train Awards 2022 Announced for September

While the COVID pandemic caused the world to mostly shut down in 2020, it didn’t exactly end everything. Numerous public events tried to make a go at hosting online alternatives, like the major Comic Cons and media awards. And then some events actually debuted because of the pandemic, like this themed LEGO building competition. Year 2020 saw the beginning of the Brick Train Awards, an online global competition with LEGO train builds. The competition has been going on straight through to last year. And now, they’ve announced their third edition set to start next month.

Brickset gives us word that the 2022 Brick Train Awards are soon to kick off, by next month in fact. Like its two predecessors, the competition involves LEGO builders showcasing their best brick-built locomotives and settings. Entries will be open to all interested participants classified into three regions (Americas, Asia/Australasia and Europe). Specialty retailer Trixbrix.eu is sponsoring the event, which will pick winners from 15 categories at regional level. From there, the Brick Train Awards panel will choose the global winners. They’ve also earmarked three categories for TFOLs (teenaged fans of LEGO), so everybody gets a shot at LEGO-train greatness. Here are the official categories:

  • Best steam locomotive
  • Best diesel locomotive
  • Best electric locomotive
  • Best other locomotive
  • Best consist / full train
  • Best passenger wagon
  • Best freight wagon
  • Best special wagon
  • Best digital locomotive
  • Best digital wagon
  • Best TFOL (Teenage Fan of LEGO) locomotive
  • Best TFOL wagon
  • Best TFOL display
  • Public vote
  • Best display

Applicants to the Brick Train Awards will have the rest of this month to perfect their ideas. That’s because the official entry period will be throughout all of September 2022. The awards in 2021 fielded more than 750 locomotive builds. Let’s see if this year’s contest can go better than that.

SDCC ’22 LEGO Panel: Ninjago-es On

San Diego Comic Con 2022 is now behind us, and we congratulate them for pulling it off. It was definitely nice to see plenty of new upcoming media from a wide variety of sources. Of course, we include LEGO among them. Already we got a taste of some LEGO set tie-ins with “Avatar: The Way of Water” for example. But LEGO also has its own original content that’s been consistent hits with kids worldwide. They’ll never let us forget about their “Ninjago” animated series, which has been on for double-digit seasons already. SDCC gave the perfect opportunity to tell fans what’s in store later on.

As reported by The Brick Fan, new info on the continuation of current LEGO Ninjago season surfaced at SDCC22. “Ninjago: Crystalized” started just this past May, with 12 episodes premiered. The rest, according to the LEGO Entertainment panel, will premiere October. In the US, that comes by way of Netflix exclusively. Only Nickelodeon Denmark and Canada’s YTV and Teletoon still carry the series on good old TV channels. The only other hints given on plot points for “Crystalized” involve more screentime for Dareth and Harumi.

But that’s not all. “LEGO Ninjago” animation will not yet end anytime soon. Another season is in the works that’ll premiere in 2023. The series production team can only hint at the next part of the saga being “new” and “different”. That doesn’t mean a reboot however. More info might come to light when next year’s first LEGO Ninjago wave gets teased towards the Holidays. Aside from “Ninjago”, the LEGO panel at SDCC showcased some LEGO Star Wars shorts. They also had “LEGO Masters US” judges Jamie and Amy hype season 3. That one premieres on September 21 at FOX.

Build a Red Brick in LEGO Stores, July & August

Quite a few years ago, a possible surprise awaiting customers at a LEGO Store are brick-building events. You get to sit at a worktable and given several LEGO bricks along with instructions to assemble simple builds. You complete the exercise and you get to bring your build home. These activities not only hype up the kids, they can also serve as sources for extra LEGO bricks. Of course, in-store building events went quiet for a couple years due to the pandemic. Now however, they’re returning to a nice regularity, if this new activity is indication.

Brickset brings us word of this cool in-store building event at LEGO Store branches this month and next. In yet another part of “Celebrating 90 Years of Play”, store customers can build a big Red LEGO Brick. The event kicked off in US and UK LEGO Stores this July 20, lasting until the 21st. And it’ll recur this coming August, this time from the 10th to 11th. The Big Red Brick looks fairly impressive and can be built from Ages 6 and up. If nothing else, the red and black pieces could be added later to one’s loose LEGO-brick stock.

Local LEGO Store customers will be able to participate in the Red Brick build, first come first served. Each store will also have limited quantities of LEGO bricks for building in all event days. Furthermore, only one Red Brick can be assembled and brought home per person. Lastly, this simple set can’t be bought conventionally. You miss the building event period this week however, and you’ll have to wait for August 10-11 for another chance.
