The free May to June digital editions of LEGO Club magazines are now available for download, and with it comes a Star Wars insert that features the members of the Freemaker family. Starring in their own Disney XD LEGO series, which will debut on June 20, The Freemaker Adventures centers on the family of space scavengers set between the events of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, and Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi. In spite of the Empire’s iron grip gradually spanning across the galaxy, things were going along well with the family business as the Freemakers salvage and repair what they could from the floating debris that sprawled across the galaxy brought about by the sporadic skirmishes between the starships of the Imperial troops and those from the Resistance. Things got a little bit complicated when the youngest member of the family, 12-year old Rohan, discovered that he is Force sensitive through the aid of the ancient artifact, the Kyber Saber. Mastering the Force is something that Rohan will need to learn eventually, plus doing so is a great way to ease his job as well (I know, like what Hans Solo used to say, ‘That’s not how the Force works!’).
In case you have downloaded your free copy of the Star Wars Freemakers Adventure insert, it comes with a building instruction to build your own customized starship, just like the Freemakers do. Fondly called as ‘UGLY’, this customized build is a mash up between a scaled down TIE Fighter and an X-Wing. Hoth Bricks took the liberty of putting together the instructions for the UGLY to one convenient spread so we can easily follow the steps. The build is relatively easy to make, using common LEGO parts that you may already have. Here are the building instructions for you to download and try.
Quite frankly, it’s far from ‘ugly’ and it’s a nice mini-build which looks more like a TIE Fighter. After all, this is where LEGO stands out – it encourages us to be more creative and think outside of the box with the pieces that we have or dealt with. That is something that the Freemakers or any LEGO Master Builder clearly understands.
Be sure to watch out for LEGO Star Wars The Freemaker Adventures as it flies into hyperspace to Disney XD on June 20. While you’re at it, also check out the 2016 LEGO sets that go together with them: the LEGO Star Wars Eclipse Fighter 75145 and LEGO Star Wars Star Scavenger 75147.
Now… to come up with my own UGLY.
