More NYTF 2020 News: A Closer Look at the LEGO Minions Sets

LEGO Minions

LEGO has just listed its line-up of LEGO Minions tie-in sets at its Shop@Home portal just in time for the New York Toy Fair. However, it’s evident that LEGO is still holding back some details regarding these sets due to a limited number of images that it opted to upload on its servers. And this time around, they’re ready to show it all at their booth at NYTF. Thanks to The Brothers Brick who are still reporting live at the Javits Center, we can now have a hands-on, closer look at these little yellow guys.

Brick-Built Minions and Their Lair (75551)

LEGO Minions

The largest in this series, this set features a sizeable replica of Kevin and Stuart with a hidden surprise inside.

The box art for this set suggests that you can build Bob as the third minion in the group. However, bear in mind that if you prefer to display all of the three Minions major characters than you have to purchase two of these sets. It’s also a nice touch to see three unique builds or lairs dedicated to each of the three Minions: Stuart’s room features some items and gadgets supposedly to carry out their despicable plans, Kevin has his computer room filled with many of his ingenious plans and weapon schematics (I think I see a fart gun somewhere), and Bob has his martial arts room filled with all kinds of weapons to hone his villainous skills.

This set comes in at 876 pieces with three corresponding minifigures of Stuart (in blue pajamas), Kevin (with a white hard hat) and Bob (in his kung fu garb) all of which will retail for $49.99.

Minions Kung Fu Battle (75550)

Without being too spoilery about the film, this set features a Chinese temple build in predominantly red design. It also features a training ground, dragon puppet, and three minifigures: Stuart and Kevin in their kung-fu get-ups and the significantly larger Otto. I like how LEGO throws in a bunch of multi-colored bananas together with this set just for laughs. This LEGO Minions set comes in at 310 pieces and will retail for $39.99

Unstoppable Bike Chase (75549)

This third regular set from LEGO Minions features a buildable motorbike that perfectly reflects the budding nefarious deeds of the gang. It also comes with a red rocket skate for the Minions to ride on. But I guess what could be the main attraction for this set, especially for collectors, is the inclusion of an exclusive Gru minifigure. Since Minions: The Rise of Gru is a prequel of sorts, we can also expect a younger version of Gru, complete with his trademark scarf printed on his torso. He also comes with new medium legs. Other than the exclusive Gru minifig, this set also includes the minifigures of Bob and Stuart.

Minion Pilot in Training (75547)

One of the “4+” set in this series, this set features a small private plane and two minifigs: Stuart in a unique pilot uniform and Bob in blue overalls. This set comes in at 119 pieces and will retail for $29.99.

Minions in Gru’s Lab (75546)

Another 4+ set, the Minions in Gru’s Lab features an orange slide, a red track, and a small rocket-powered coaster. This set will retail for $19.99 and comes in at 87 pieces.

Thanks again to The Brothers Brick for sharing these images. LEGO Minions sets are slated to be released starting April 27, with the Minions: The Rise of Gru scheduled to be released in theaters on July 3.
