This year’s San Diego Comic Con may long be over, but the waves of change as revealed during the SDCC panels and the excitement that it brings, is certainly felt by fans. Those who grew up with the LEGO Ninjago TV series know the feeling pretty well. Since its inception in 2011, LEGO Ninjago’s Masters of Spinjitzu has already gone through a lot of changes – a total of 7 seasons of it actually. These changes, according to writers Dan and Kevin Hageman while speaking during the LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu panel at Comic-Con, is not just the good kind, but a necessary one. As the younger fans of the LEGO original series grows up, it is also necessary that our Ninjago heroes face their own coming of age.
This is one of the themes that the upcoming season of LEGO Ninjago would like to get across to its viewers, as presented during their SDCC panel. To give a hint of things to come, Season 8’s first trailer was shown to the audience, and later on released online as you can see below. Admittedly, the series is still a work in progress, and that the audience should expect more visually appealing special effects and a more polished look at the show’s characters. Nevertheless, the trailer gives us a glimpse of Lloyd’s new look which now closely resembles that of how he is portrayed in The LEGO Ninjago Movie. It’s kind of interesting to see how these character developments will progress and transition from the TV series and to their upcoming cinematic versions.
As we can see from the trailer, our team of ninjas will eventually face another group of antagonists hot from the trail of the Vermillion. These ninja doppelgangers bear much in resemblance to our heroes in terms of costume, except for their stylized motorcycle helmets. In the trailer, we see the objective of these covert ninja ops – to steal a mysterious red, kabuki mask during the height of the local festivities.
We don’t get to see the entire Ninjago Team assembled in this trailer yet; however it seems that these very same events will serve as the catalyst for the team to be together once more. What we know so far is that this upcoming season of LEGO Ninjago will be entitled as Sons of Garmadon as revealed during the San Diego Comic-Con. Nothing much has been revealed about the new season’s plot and how it will take off, but showrunner Tommy Andreasen mentioned through his Twitter page that this latest season may open up a lot of questions with regards to what happened between the events of Hands of Time story arc with that of Sons of Garmadon. These questions according to Andreasen will eventually be answered during the episodes themselves.
There is no release date mentioned on when LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu will eventually air, except for the assurance that it is slated to launch next year. In the meantime, don’t forget to mark your calendars when The LEGO Ninjago Movie hits the big screen on September 22.
