We saw the first wave of LEGO City 2017 sets last week with its predominantly Police-themed builds. This time, thanks to Hoth Bricks, we now have a glimpse of its next wave of sets, focusing on more varied themes on both land and sea particularly on sporting activities. It is not all sports though, because LEGO is still focusing on life in the neighborhood with its Pizza Van and Sweeper & Excavator truck. Love that yellow pizza van! Take a look.

Just a quick reminder to add this to your calendar. The Toys R Us Toy Book 2016 has already been released and with it the announcement of another LEGO promotional. A LEGO Nexo Knights Building Event is slated to take place on November 12 next Saturday from 12PM to 2PM at all TRU stores nationwide. The said building event allows children 6 years old and above to build and take home a FREE LEGO Nexo Knights monster and a chance gather several Nexo Powers inside the store through the Merlok 2.0 app.
If you recall, a similar promotional happened across TRU stores in Germany, where we saw the polybag’s pretty neat building instructions in its booklet form. The TRU LEGO Nexo Knights monster comes in at 58 pieces and its build bears close resemblance to a battle-ready LEGO Mixels Infernite that may easily pass as Burnzie’s smaller cousin.
Remember, like any other promotional, this free LEGO Nexo Knights monster set is only available while supplies last. Plus the fact that this TRU build and take home event is only for 2 hours, expect that this set will immediately be out of stock.
It almost came out of nowhere when we first saw its image on LEGO’s December Store Calendar. Just in time before Disney’s Moana hit theaters this month, LEGO has finally revealed its next Disney-inspired set with LEGO Disney Moana on the High Seas (41150). As exciting as the set maybe for most LEGO and Disney fans, the image printed on the December Store Calendar was, unfortunately, a little out of focus. However, thanks to LEGO Club’s Yellow Brick Magazine for the month of November and December (particularly on page 5) we now have a closer look at set 41150, with high res images of Dwayne Johnson’s demigod character, Maui, Auli’i Cravalho’s Moana mini-doll rendition, and a new piece for Moana’s pet chicken, Hei Hei as voiced by Alan Tudyk.
The print on Maui’s big fig version is absolutely superb, staying true to the demigod’s animated tattoos and determined expression. We also get to see a new rooster/chicken figure for Moana’s pet chicken Hei Hei. Love the aggressive look on his eyes, though I must admit that he looks more like a parrot of some sort because of his color scheme. Moana’s minidoll figure is also a little underwhelming which borrows heavily from the LEGO Friends theme. If there is one thing that this set was able to accomplish is the unorthodox combination of big figs and mini-dolls in a single set. I’m pretty sure that Maui’s big fig version will be a must-have for collectors and Disney fans alike.
In conjunction with the new LEGO Batman Movie Trailer released earlier today (which is awesome, by the way), another 2 sets based off of the film have been revealed, those being:
70900 The Joker Balloon Escape -$14.99, 124 pieces
70908 The Scuttler – $79.99, 775 pieces
Both these sets look really good in my opinion. That Joker Balloon Escape looks like an excellent little $15 set, giving the main 2 characters of the film and a colourful parts pack. I believe that background build to be based off of Ace Chemicals, the famed location where the comic book Joker received his chemical bath that turned him into the Clown Prince of Crime.
The scuttler, whilst weird-looking at first glance, seems to represent a bat that is grounded and walking as opposed to flying, hence the set’s name. This is a very quirky and original idea/design, and the figures are superb, especially those new hair pieces. That Joker waistcoat appears in both sets and is certainly…interesting.
They’re priced $14.99 and $79.99 respectively, which is pretty reasonably considering the price to part ratio and the size of builds.
After several months of waiting, Warner Bros Pictures has now released the much anticipated follow-up trailer for its next brick-built movie. I wouldn’t comment much about it because I know you want to see it. Watch the latest official trailer of The LEGO Batman Movie below.
The trailer echoes the tone and focus of the previous ones: enabling the Dark Knight to realize that it ‘takes a team to build a hero’. It also gives us a closer look on Batman’s collection of sweet rides that were teased earlier. I love the distinct LEGO humor especially when Robin introduced the ‘Bat Kayak’. I assume it is a healthy dose of sarcasm on the fact that Batman’s collection of crime-fighting vehicles (including the Batsub and Bat Zeppelin) is as numerous as his different film iterations and costumes.
One thing that also caught my attention was the minifigure versions of Batman’s known enemies such as that of the Kiteman and King Tut as you can see them from the left side of this screenshot. It was rumored that Kiteman will be one of the villains to be included in the LEGO Batman Movie’s CMF series together with some other unnamed antagonists. There are also familiar faces among the Joker’s posse including King Tut and Man-Bat.
Additionally, we get to see a possible LEGO set that was already listed by Brickset. Though there is no confirmation yet if this scene directly refers or hints at the LEGO Batman Movie The Joker Balloon set (70900), but it is a good indicator that it may be so.
We already know of several sets that were announced during this year’s San Diego Comic Con back in July, and during the most recent New York Comic Con held last month. Here are the LEGO Batman Movie sets that are yet to be officially revealed by TLG.
The Joker Balloon (70900)
Catwoman Catcycle Chase (70902)
The Riddler Riddle Racer (70903)
Clayface Splat Attack (70904)
Killer Croc (70907)
The Scuttler (70908)
Penguin’s Limo (70911)
It is very clear by now that LEGO and Warner Bros are heavily investing in the LEGO Batman Movie. With a total of 19 expected sets and a collectible minifig series, this is one LEGO theme that we will look forward to.
The LEGO Batman Movie hits US theatres on February 10, 2017.
If you’re into modular buildings and you still don’t have this ticked off from your must-have list, then this is something that you may want to read. Promo Bricks has recently pointed out the apparent unavailability of the D2C advanced model set, the LEGO Creator Pet Shop 10218, across the European region. According from a concerned fan and probable LEGO insider who passed on the info, the set IS no longer available in the area. A quick browse over at shop.LEGO.com confirms this, where several regional stores in Europe mark the set as ‘Temporarily out of stock’.
The situation is also the same across several LEGO Brand Stores in Europe, where 10218 is no longer on their store shelves. According to the report, some store employees said that the demand for the 2,000-piece set has recently spiked due to the recent revived interest in modular buildings, coupled with the fact that the set is almost retiring after its introduction in 2011. The good news is that as of this writing, the LEGO Creator Pet Shop 10218 is still listed in as available in North America both in Canada and in the US. It seems that LEGO has plenty more in store for us this coming 2017. If you recall, we mentioned in a previous post that there is more than 150 new sets rumored to be released by TLG next year. Hailing from different themes, this is one big year for LEGO. Now, thanks to Hoth Bricks, we now have our official images of the sets that will debut in 2017 under the LEGO City theme. As you will notice, these first LEGO City sets for 2017 will focus more on the cops and robbers theme, with plenty more reveals lined up. Brickset has already updated its database to include more than 30 sets for LEGO City’s next sets, particularly on the ‘Great Vehicles’ range.
Jason Alleman of JK Brickworks has cooked up another magical creation just in time for Halloween. Hot off the heels of his LEGO trick or treat Candy Thrower, comes another perfect way to cap a fun-filled All Hollow’s Eve. Initially submitted as a LEGO Ideas project, Jason collaborated with Grant Davis to come up with a visually appealing LEGO Pop-Up Book. Using a simple mechanism to make the page ‘come alive’ once opened, and discretely hidden once closed, the LEGO Ideas Pop-Up Book can be highly customized to fit in any particular theme or story of your own fancy. In celebration of Halloween, Jason and Grant came up with a pretty neat and eerie rendition of their LEGO Ideas project complete with interactive features such as a ghost coming out of a crypt, a skeleton that can rise up from its grave, and a Dementor hanging out on a fence. Talk about spooky! Watch Jason’s video presentation below.
You may learn more about this cool Halloween-themed pop-up book by visiting their website at JKBrickworks. If you like their work and are hoping to see it as an official LEGO set, then you may want to give it a thumbs up at their LEGO Ideas project pageby casting your vote. As of this writing, Jason and Grant’s LEGO Ideas Pop-Up Book now has more than 5,700 supporters – still halfway through before it can reach the coveted 10K milestone. Here’s how Jason describes their project.
Play out your favorite stories, or create new ones of your own, using the LEGO pop-up book! Check out the video below to see it in action.
The book features a simple and reliable mechanism that pops up a structure when the book opens, and pulls it back in when the book closes. The main scene and surrounding details can be completely customized to tell any story you can imagine, – a cottage in the woods, jungle ruins, medieval castle, wild west building, space station, pirate ship – the possibilities are endless.
There is also room to store Minifigs and other accessories inside the book, and it features a locking clasp to keep everything securely inside when it is closed.
We suggest the set include enough pieces to build at least two core scenes and include anywhere from 3 to 5 Minifigs. A selection of extra Minifig parts could also be included so the actors can be outfitted for different roles, making them more suited to tell a variety of stories.
We hope to see this brick-built pop-up book enter the Third 2016 Review Stage, together with RobenAnne’s Boat Repair Shop and Savath_Bunny’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ‘The Bus’. For the meantime, enjoy a fun-filled evening!
