A new LEGO Speed Champions set that will debut in the first quarter of 2020 has just been revealed. The LEGO Speed Champions Formula E Panasonic Jaguar Racing GEN2 Car & Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY (76898) is a dual-pack set that features two of Jaguar’s latest innovation in electric vehicle technology in partnership with the Panasonic Jaguar Racing team. The LEGO Speed Champions reveal also coincide with the latter’s announcement of their new Formula E I-TYPE 4 race car, while the Jaguar I-PACE underscores the company’s latest all-electric SUV to be marketed to the public in direct competition with Tesla’s Model X.
According to a report from The Brothers Brick, this latest new LEGO Speed Champions set will feature a first-ever 8-stud wide design for the series which significantly improves the design and model accuracy of the theme. All Speed Champions sets as of to date follow a 6-stud wide design which makes them look narrower as compared to their real-life counterparts. This new design also allows for the creation of a new LEGO element – such as a huge 6×12 modified plate – to accommodate the adjustment in size. This also allows two minifigures (in the case of the I-PACE brick model) to be seated in front for a more realistic brick rendition. Other new elements also include 3×2 wedge plates and 6-stud wide windscreen.
Looking at the set’s box art, I can say that the new 8-stud design is a significant improvement in the LEGO Speed Champions series. It introduces a new length-to-width ratio that comes closer to how these LEGO versions accurately represent their real-life vehicle counterparts. I just hope that this will be the same for all upcoming Speed Champions sets in 2020.
There are no details yet as of the moment regarding this new LEGO Speed Champions set’s piece count and retail price, but we can expect more info and additional images to be revealed in the coming weeks. One of the few things that caught my attention when the LEGO Catalog for the 2nd half of this year came out was one particular LEGO Speed Champion set that is slated to be released in August. And this time around, LEGO finally gave us a closer look at its new LEGO Speed Champions 1974 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0 (75895) set. You may immediately notice that the new 1974 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0 (75895) set is basically a rehash of last year’s Porsche 911 RSR and 911 Turbo 3.0 (75888), with the latter coming in at a cool, lime green color. Both of these models come in as exact replicas, with the newer version featuring an all-white build. It also features a new minifigure driver character that sports a leather jacket on top of a shirt that predominantly features the Porsche logo.

Microsoft is revving things up in the opening salvo of this year’s E3 or Electronic Entertainment Expo 2019. LEGO has already revealed a handful of 2019 LEGO Speed Champion sets to watch out for in January, and it looks like the reveals doesn’t end there. A couple of days ago, the official Facebook page of McLaren Automotive shared a teaser on what’s building at LEGO HQ, particularly with regards to its speedster line of brick-built supercars. McLaren fans were quick to point out that the rear end of this next LEGO Speed Champions set belongs to one of the company’s most recent creation: the McLaren Senna. Just to be sure, this new 2019 LEGO Speed Champions set is not yet confirmed, though it should be noted that LEGO has already announced a LEGO Speed Champions McLaren Senna (75892) as part of its 2019 repertoire scheduled for release in January 1st.
This new set, if ever it turned out to be another Senna, sports a camouflaged finish on top of predominantly white pieces. The only turnoff from this set, like in any other LEGO Speed Champion set, is the vast amount of stickers that you need to apply in order to create that camouflaged effect. I can already feel my stubby, little fingers complaining.
Now just to be clear, these are all speculations at the moment until such time that LEGO and McLaren do a full reveal. Perhaps we’ll hear more about this collaboration soon enough just in time for the 2019 Nuremberg Toy Fairin Germany. For now, let’s just wait and see how things will turn out.
