September 17 is a special day for the iconic Dark Knight when the whole comic fandom celebrates his legacy and influence all over the world. From a humble comic book hero of the 1940s that later spawned 12 theatrical films through the decades, and tons of toys and merchandise, it is hard to dismiss the influence of the Caped Crusader in our pop culture. To mark the occasion, Warner Bros. Animation has recently released its newest poster for the much anticipated LEGO Batman Movie featuring nonetheless than the enigmatic hero himself rendered in LEGO minifigure form. In LEGO’s typical comedic fashion, the hero reminds us to ‘always be ourselves’ – unless we can be like the Dark Knight himself. Big words indeed that only LEGO’s Batman can deliver.
In case you’re wondering how technically ‘old’ our Gotham hero is, September 17 also marks his 75th anniversary in the crime fighting business. If there is anything that the number proves, is the fact that Batman is and will always probably be the most resilient superhero around. LEGO itself is very much aware of the Dark Knight’s enduring popularity that it didn’t mind coming up with a whole theme of LEGO sets centered on him, and an animated film to boot. More recently, LEGO has also unveiled two new sets scheduled for release alongside the upcoming film: The Batmobile (70905) and The Joker’s Notorious Lowrider (70906).
The LEGO Batman Movie is slated to hit theatres on February 10 next year starring Will Arnett as the voice of the Dark Knight’s minifig version on the big screen. Joining him is Michael Cera (Robin), Ralph Fiennes (Alfred), Rosario Dawson (Barbara Gordon), and Zach Galifianakis as the infamous Joker.
In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.
Will Arnett reprises his starring role from “The LEGO Movie” as the voice of LEGO Batman, aka Bruce Wayne. Zach Galifianakis stars as The Joker; Michael Cera as the orphan Dick Grayson; Rosario Dawson as Barbara Gordon; and Ralph Fiennes as Alfred. “The LEGO Batman Movie” is directed by Chris McKay and produced by Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. It is written by Seth Grahame-Smith and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, with additional screenplay material by Jared Stern & John Whittington, based on LEGO Construction Toys, in association with LEGO System AS. Chris McKay also serves as an executive producer, alongside Ryan Harris. A Warner Bros. Pictures presentation, “The LEGO Batman Movie” will open in theaters on February 10, 2017.
