Last LEGO Store Calendar of the Year Now Available!

UPDATE: The official December LEGO Store Calendar is now up on LEGO’s servers. I’ve updated the images below to include those that are actually found on the calendar.

LEGO caps off the year with a string of promotionals that you can find in the LEGO December Store Calendar. This year’s last LEGO Store Calendar offers a mix of freebies coming from the LEGO Ninjago, Creator and Star Wars themes. Plus, it gives us an early access to some of LEGO’s 2018 sets. Check the images below, or you can download the entire calendar in PDF format right herescaled 4221 DEC17 Cal US medres Page 1 scaled 4221 DEC17 Cal US medres Page 2

December 1 to 7: Free Master Wu Keychain (5004915) with a purchase of $35 or more of any LEGO products.

01 4221 DEC17 Cal US medres Page 1

As we previously reported, the Master Wu Keychain is part of the series of freebies tied-in with the LEGO Ninjago Movie, earlier announced last July. Frankly speaking, there not much of a difference between this keychain counterpart of Master Wu as compared to those included in three TLNM sets: Master Falls (70608), Green Ninja Mech Dragon (70612), and Destiny’s Bounty (70618) so I expect that this will not be highly sought out for as compared to the LEGO Ninjago Movie Kendo Lloyd (30608) polybag.

5004915 1

The free Master Wu Keychain is valid from December 1 to 7 or until supplies last.

December 5 to 6: VIP Monthly Model Build is a Train (40250).

40250 1

To reserve your spot, simply register for the December MMB by visiting shop.LEGO.com/Minibuild-Registration starting November 15. The LEGO MMB is meant for children ages 6 to 14, and must be completely built in store.

December 8 to 10: Double VIP Points on Everything.

03 4221 DEC17 Cal US medres Page 1

If you still have time for some last minute Christmas holiday shopping rush, then you may want to go over your LEGO Christmas shopping list once again. For three days, you can earn those double VIP points while bagging those sets included in your LEGO wishlist. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed for that UCS Millennium Falcon.

December 8 to 17: Free LEGO Creator Mini London Bus (40220) with a purchase of $75 or more, or while supplies last.

02 4221 DEC17 Cal US medres Page 1

Rolling out of its garage is the LEGO Creator Mini London Bus (40220), and it is back once more as a free promotional for a price point of $75 and more. It’s kind of nice of LEGO to bring back this younger sibling of the LEGO Creator Expert London Bus (10258) and have it offered once again with the same qualifying purchase when it first went live in 2016.

40220 alt1

If you can hold on to that next LEGO purchase, and if you can add $40 worth of LEGO sets in your shopping bag, then this freebie is a better offer than that of Master Wu Keychain earlier mentioned.

December 15, 2017 to January 14, 2018: Free LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Anniversary Pod (5005376) with a LEGO Star Wars purchase of $60 or more.

04 4221 DEC17 Cal US medres Page 1

This fifth and latest promotional pod is a nod to Star Wars’ 40th anniversary, with the iconic Sith Lord being the highlight of this minifigure promotional. This latest minifigure version of Darth Vader seems to be a redesign over previous ones, and bagging this freebie is the best way of adding him to your collection. The smallest set by far in which you can add the Sith Lord in your roster of LEGO Star Wars minifigs is thru the Darth Vader Transformation (75183) set retailing for $25. For a price point of $60 and above of any LEGO Star Wars products, this is certainly a good catch.

Lastly, LEGO certainly knows how to end the year with a bang, with several 2018 sets being available as early as November 25. I am particularly excited for the LEGO Creator Modular Skate House (31081) which is a part of LEGO’s early reveal of its 2018 LEGO Creator line-up. Of course, we also have the re-released LEGO Creator Expert Taj Mahal (10256) – the now 2nd largest LEGO set ever made, having been bested from its throne by the UCS Millennium Falcon (75192) – scheduled for another run starting November 27.

31081 1

The December LEGO Store Calendar also gives us another treat by giving us a peek of one of the 2018 Nexo Knight sets which is the Berserker Bomber (72003). It was previously reported that the Nexo Knights theme was given another year, with six additional sets slated for next year accompanying a new story arc.  We’ll talk more about that later in my next post.

How To Build Your Own LEGO Toys R Us Bricktober Mini BB-8.

This is something that fell off my radar during the past weekend. After the successful launch of this year’s LEGO TRU Bricktober Minifigures, Toys R Us officially concluded this year’s Bricktober promotions with a build and take home event last Saturday at all local TRU stores in the US. KFOLS had the chance to build and bring home a brick-built mini version of one of Star Wars favorite droids, none other than BB-8.

If you missed out this event, and wish to try your own mini BB-8, then you’ll be glad to know that the instructions to build this miniature droid is now available online courtesy of The Brick Fan. You may download the building instructions directly as a PDF file and see if you have the necessary parts to build it, or you may just click on the images below.

Frankly, this particular build is not really that impressive. Pardon me, but I can’t help but think that it actually ended up looking like a roll-on… lol! I feel that BB-8’s head section can be improved even with very limited parts. Here’s how the final build looks like, with photo credits to Rebel Scum.

But who am I to complain, it’s free LEGO after all – and any free LEGO is always a good catch.

Legoland New York Project Launched – Will Open in 2020.

LEGO is such a major toy and media brand all over the world that it is no surprise that they have gotten their own line of theme parks, starting with their first at Billund in Denmark (near the original LEGO factory site). Today, Legoland is a major tourist destination, with no less than eight theme parks under that banner in seven countries.

legolandbillund

Merlin Entertainments, the UK-based theme park company that is the majority owner and operator of the Legoland parks, has three more projects underway: two in Asia and the third stateside, Legoland New York which has just started construction.

It was Merlin Entertainments CEO Nick Varney, who declared the official launch of Legoland New York. Construction would begin soon at the proposed site at Goshen in Orange County, New York following the approval of the town board.

Once building is completed sometime in 2020, the park, located due south of the former Arden Hill Hospital, is expected to open seasonally from April 1 to November 1 and will be the ninth Legoland in the world. While the theme park itself is seasonal, Merlin Entertainments is also erecting a nearby Legoland Hotel, one that will be open all year round.

legolandnewyork

The Legoland parks pride themselves on being a world of fun and adventure for families with young children. Their rides and attractions are mostly being given educational and learning elements, geared for child guests of ages 2 to 12. The same can be said of the Legoland Hotel, with its interactive environment featuring plenty of LEGO models and brick-themed guest rooms.

The New York theme park will join with its older Legoland siblings in Denmark, UK, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Dubai and the US (Carlsbad and Florida). A tenth Legoland in South Korea is also in the works with a 2019 completion date.

UK Toys R Us Stores Holding LEGO Ninjago Movie ‘Make and Take’ Event this Saturday.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie hit cinemas around the globe last month, but LEGO is going to keep the hype for the film going long after the box office has run its course through its many tie-in products. As it seems, toy store chains that carry the LEGO brand are only happy to help out.

This usually takes the form of hosting “Make and Take” events, where skilled little builders can bring home their individual creations, and UK’s Toys R Us in the UK will be having one of these on the weekend, October 28.

As announced via TRU UK’s official blogsite, the LEGO model to build and bring home is a variant of the technically impressive LEGO Ninjago Movie Ice Tank (70616). Though the blogsite didn’t mention exactly what particular Ice Tank variant that children can make and take home this Saturday, our best guess is that it could be the Ice Tank (30427) polybag, or even a smaller version of it. TRU is known for offering its unique versions of smaller LEGO sets during these building events, so this is exciting to see.

30427 1
Will this be given away this weekend at select TRU UK stores? We’ll just have to wait and see.

So if you happen to be near at any Toys R Us branch in the UK, then be sure to drop by this Saturday before noon (from 11AM to 1PM) to take part in this make and take fun. Take note though that not all TRU UK branches will be running the event.

For your guidance, the LEGO Ninjago Movie Ice Tank Make and Take Event will NOT be available in the following stores: Northampton Weston Favell, Nottingham Victoria Centre, Hemel Hempstead, Peterborough Serpentine Green, Blackburn, Sunderland, Glasgow The Forge, Edinbugh Fort Kinnaird, Craigleith, Carlisle, Crystal Peaks, Chester Broughton, Cardiff Queen Street, Staines, Derby intu, Aberdeen Union Square, Doncaster Frenchgate, Kingston and Banbury.

Here’s A Wrap-Up of All Things LEGO at NYCC 2017

Last week’s New York Comic Con 2017 may all be over, but the waves of LEGO-related announcements released during the fan convention just kept on lingering. Unlike last year’s New York Comic Con, where LEGO introduced new sets such those coming from the DC Super Hero Girls theme, additional LEGO Batman Movie sets, and an exclusive Batgirl mini-doll raffle giveaway, this year was, well… a bit uninspiring. There were no new themes or full LEGO sets that were announced, but more of what to expect from the LEGO BrickHeadz line. Needless to say, this year’s LEGO reveals were pretty nice in themselves so here’s a wrap-up of everything that LEGO has revealed or announced during the said annual fan convention.

First off, we have the obvious emphasis on one of LEGO’s brick-built, pop-styled themes – the LEGO BrickHeadz. Love or hate them, top brass from The LEGO Group made the call, nonetheless, of having two of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars saga as this year’s prized LEGO NYCC exclusive and giving them the LEGO BrickHeadz flavor. This year’s NYCC saw a handful of fortunate LEGO fans bringing home their very own and exclusively numbered, LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz Boba Fett and Han Solo in Carbonite (41498). Straight from the classic Star Wars saga, this exclusive BrickHeadz set comes in at 329 pieces and is the largest BrickHeadz set to be offered so far.

Hot on the heels of this exclusive LEGO set is also the announcement of more LEGO BrickHeadz in 2018. Specifically timed with the theatrical releases of some of the most highly anticipated super hero films, these BrickHeadz feature a new line of sets based on characters from the Justice League, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Avengers: Infinity War. This gives the relatively new line of LEGO theme a total number of 29 collectible sets to eye on, excluding those that were exclusively offered during Comic Cons.

banner LEGO BrickHeadz S2

Next, we have more cool announcements coming from the good ‘ol folks of Warner Bros Interactive and TT Games. Also revealed during one of the NYCC panels, TT Games brought to stage several cool updates about the much awaited LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. TT Games Head of Design, Arthur Parsons, revealed what fans can expect from the game’s Season Pass, which offers six Level Packs and four Character Packs boosting the overall number of playable LEGO Marvel characters to up to more than 260 characters.

Finally, it was also revealed at NYCC that the Black Panther will have his very own LEGO movie entitled Trouble in Wakanda. It seems that T’Challa will be getting a lot of screen time – not only with his own stand-alone and self-titled MCU film set to be released in February and the Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 in May, we can now also expect him starring in his own LEGO film.

Black Panther
black panther trouble in wakanda

Details about Trouble in Wakanda are scant as of the moment, and we don’t have any details of its plot or release date. What we do know is that LEGO seems to be focusing a lot of attention on a single, Marvel character since this is the very first solo superhero movie that they ever made. We do have a lot of superhero, brick-built movies before, but this is the very first film that is dedicated to a single character. Will this be a start of something like a series of stand-alone LEGO superhero films in the future, following the methods of both MCU and DCEU? We just have to wait and see.

It is also not far-fetched to consider that this might be another direct-to-DVD/Blu-Ray film unlike its big production movies such as The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie, and the more recent, LEGO Ninjago Movie. My best guess is that it will be released alongside its theatrical MCU counterpart, the Black Panther, and may also come with an exclusive, free LEGO minifigure which of course will definitely drive sales of Trouble in Wakanda.

What LEGO NYCC announcement were you most excited about? For one, I’m looking forward to LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 and I’m sure our resident gaming guru, Brick Show Brian, already has his sights locked into playing and giving you a walk-through of this game. So be sure to follow his YouTube channel and keep tabs with us for more LEGO news and updates.

Tyler Gets An Inside Look at the LEGO House in Billund.

The LEGO House in Billund, Denmark is now fully operational! We had a glimpse of what the House of the Brick has to offer, and this time, our resident Master Builder brings you a firsthand look at what’s in store inside the sprawling complex of brick-filled fun and non-stop adventures.

From the magnificent LEGO Tree of Creativity that stands 15 meters high and made out of more than six million LEGO bricks, the Master Builders Gallery, where the original works of some of the best LEGO builders and fans all over the world are showcased, and to the various activity zones (Red, Yellow, Green and Blue) that define the fun and unique LEGO learning experience, each section of the LEGO House is filled with so many opportunities to learn and express each person’s creativity in a fun and engaging way.

Speaking of creativity, though I am not fortunate enough to be included in the A-list of top notch LEGO builders invited by LEGO (sadly, my master builder kung fu is not that strong enough), I’m delighted to see what Tyler has made for the LEGO House for everyone to see. If my information is correct, MOCs put on display at the Master Builders Gallery will stay there for a year, and another batch of original creations from other equally talented builders will have a chance to be showcased.

Here’s Tyler with an inside look at the House of the Brick.

The LEGO House in Billund, Denmark is open daily with a few exceptions throughout the year, so be sure to plan and book your visit in advance.

More LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 Characters Plus Season Pass Revealed!

TT Games and Warner Bros. Interactive took to the NYCC stage their latest reveal of Marvel characters getting the LEGO treatment in the much awaited video game sequel, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. Not missing on this annual comic book fan convention, TT Games’ Arthur Parsons and Marvel’s Bill Rosemann took the opportunity of announcing a ton of new Marvel characters that will make their debut as playable, LEGO minifigures in the highly anticipated video game. The New York Comic Con panel presentation also placed the spotlight on what LEGO Marvel fans can expect from the game’s Season Pass.

It is interesting to note that the game’s Season Pass pays homage to new and upcoming MCU films and series through its six (6) Level Packs which include Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and soon to be released Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and upcoming series Cloak and Dagger and Runaways. The schedule of release for these DLCs is still yet to be announced and it’s interesting to see how this additional content will tie up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe storyline.

LMSH2 Season Pass

The Season Pass also offers four (4) Character Packs, including Agents of Atlas, Out of Time, Champions, and the Classic Guardians of the Galaxy, giving LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 a whooping 260+ Marvel comic book and MCU characters all at your disposal. The folks over at TT Games went the extra mile when they painstakingly included nice background info (such as their profiles and first comic book appearance) on each of these 260+ characters which players can access during the game.

Character Cards

Speaking of characters, Parsons and Rosemann also took the opportunity to tease a handful of new LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 characters that will make their way into the game once it’s released to the public on November 14. Check out the screen grabs below. Thanks to Collider for providing the live stream with these awesome people of TT Games and Marvel, and to Brick Fanz for polishing the screen grabs.

New LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz Revealed and Other Similar Sets Slated for 2018.

This year’s New York Comic Con is now on its last leg, and with it comes a reveal of a handful of new LEGO sets scheduled for release in January and April next year. The news surfaced when the good ‘ol folks from Jedi News were able to snap some photos of the LEGO BrickHeadz truck used to distribute the NYCC exclusive, LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz Boba Fett and Han Solo in Carbonite (41498). On display was a pretty neat poster hinting on 12 new BrickHeadz, all slated for release in 2018. Expected to be available in January and April, these new collectibles are all based on upcoming films such as the Justice League (#21-#24), Star Wars The Last Jedi and presumably from the Han Solo Anthology (#25, #26. #39, #40), and Avengers: Infinity War (#35-#38).

We don’t have any official word yet on what the DCEU and MCU-based BrickHeadz will be, but Brickset has updated its database to include Rey #25 (41602) and Kylo Ren #26 (41603) as they are seen from The Last Jedi. Rumor also has it that sets 41608 and 41609 will be that of Han Solo #39 and Chewbacca #49 respectively. Leaked images of the Rey and Kylo Ren BrickHeadz are now making their round online, and I trust you know the  way if you really wanted to see these.

blurred 41602 41603

There are also some speculations floating around about what the rest of the 2018 BrickHeadz will be. Based on their silhouettes, it is not far-fetched to consider that the Justice Lague BrickHeadz will be that of The Flash (#21), Wonder Woman (#22), Aquaman (#23 – the trident is a no-brainer, giveaway), and Cyborg (#24). Those BrickHeadz from the Avengers: Infinity War series is a little bit tricky to decipher, save perhaps from Starlord (#36) and his signature laser blasters.

In similar news, the Force seems to be strong with shop.LEGO.com, now that it has unveiled two additional LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz under its belt, making the movie franchise as of this writing, the most represented license in the LEGO BrickHeadz line. Finn #19 (41485) and Captain Phasma #20 (41486) now both have their BrickHeadz counterpart, as seen in The Force Awakens. Here are their official images and a couple of product description from LEGO. The LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz Finn and Captain Phasma will be both available on November 1st.

LEGO Toys R Us Bricktober 2017 Minifigures Now On Sale At Select TRU Stores.

This year’s LEGO Toys R Us Bricktober 2017 promotionals are now up, and as we reported from yesterday, this annual LEGO and TRU promo have already kicked off in some parts of the world and has just recently began in the US. For its first wave of offerings during this week (October 1 to 7), LEGO purchases of $50 and above at any Toys R Us stores will entitle you to a free LEGO Bricktober Minifigure set  which is from the Ninjago Masters of Spinjitzu theme.  Week 2 (October 8 to 14) giveaways will be the LEGO Batman Movie minifigs; Week 3 (October 15-21) the LEGO City Jungle Exploration; and Week 4 (October 22-28) will be a selection of LEGO CMFs coming from past series.

According to some reports we’re receiving from our brick fans, certain TRU stores, particularly in Arlington, Texas, are now even offering Week 2 series which is yet to be released next week. Furthermore, store clerks are even offering them for sale for $19.99 per set even without any qualifying purchases, including The LEGO Batman Movie series, which is still due next week. Here are some images snapped by one of our friends.

cropped Bricktober Ninjago

cropped Bricktober TLBM

What I find odd is the fact that there seems to be an absence of any active promotions or marketing for these minifigure sets. According to reports, there are no visible in-store signages of any kind that hints on these Bricktober promotionals. Unlike that of last year’s where flyers were given away to promote 2016’s Bricktober minifigs, this year is somewhat lacking. This is only me speculating, but it could be that TRU has underestimated how popular these minifigure sets are and is now doing some regulating of some sorts to ensure that there will be plenty of sets to go around during the next three weeks, OR in light of their recent financial crisis and bankruptcy, advertising is one of the company’s activities that are placed in the backburner. Couple it with a rather low morale from their frontline store personnel, then you can expect a relatively apathetic atmosphere where you can easily get products that are not yet supposed to be offered.

We just have to wait and see if TRU will be consistent in its announcements and promo, and for the mean time please let us know if these 2017 Bricktober Minifigure sets are now available in your local TRU stores. Drop us a comment below if you happen to spot them.

Thanks to Justin for giving us a heads up.
