We know that there is a new LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Pod polybag coming out this April, and it looks like there is another similar polybag all set to go in May. Now to be honest, I’m a little hesitant about posting this piece of news, especially that playful fiction has a tendency to become fact in this day of the year. Nevertheless, there seems to be some grain of truth in what the good guys from Promo Bricks have to say. According to one of their most recent reports – actually it was posted yesterday which gives credence to the idea that this is not probably a part of an elaborate pre-April Fools Day conspiracy – LEGO Star Wars fans can expect BB-8 to make a comeback in a TRU-style microbuild polybag.
If you recall from last October, Toys R Us back then offered a build and take home LEGO BB-8 microbuild to conclude their annual Bricktober celebrations last year (I will certainly miss their Bricktober minifigures for that matter). As I mentioned in that post, I sincerely feel that LEGO and TRU could have improved on this particular LEGO BB-8 microbuild, which quite frankly, looks like an underarm roll-on. Nevertheless, the build itself is pretty solid in terms of design but the lack of aesthetics (i.e. some unique printed parts) is a bit of a let-down and is an injustice against one of the most adorable SW droids around.

Nevertheless, this news from Promo Bricks, if proven to be true is expected to be of similar build but will have a marked difference. The LEGO Star Wars BB-8 (40288) polybag will have printed parts particularly for the side of its head. Now it is not really uncommon to see BB-8 in brick-build form since we already have the UCS-like LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi BB-8 (75187) set. The challenge therefore is to recreate this set in such a small scale without compromising BB-8’s outstanding features, and the best way to do that is to offer some printed parts.
Admittedly, Promo Bricks does not have the polybag image to share as of the moment, but they promise to give us an update as soon as it is available. Will keep our radars open for this one and will keep you posted as well.
