We finally have official images of the next LEGO Ideas set that will make their way in toy shelves just in time for the holidays. As announced back in July during a LEGO Community Engagement Event in Japan, the LEGO Ideas Women of NASA (21312) were briefly mentioned to be released this November 1st. Since then, LEGO fans were a little anxious to see how this fan-made set created by AFOL and space enthusiast Maia Weinstock (aka 20tauri over at LEGO Ideas) will turn out. This is understandable, considering the not-so-positive sentiment that most people have regarding the selection of this LEGO Ideas project above other hopefuls.
However, as it turned out, the final official set is way above expectations and a definite improvement from its original design. I have to admit that in spite of the limitations that it has with regards to play features and setting aside any political sentiments over the matter, the LEGO Ideas Women of NASA (21312) set will be sought after for its aesthetic appeal as a vignette-styled collectible – particularly highlighting the significant contributions of these inspiring ladies of science. Check out the images below, followed by the official announcement and product description from the LEGO Ideas blogsite.
The LEGO Ideas Women of NASA (21312) is a 231-piece set that will retail for $24.99, and is scheduled to be released on November 1st at all LEGO Brand Stores and at shop.LEGO.com. If you’re somewhere in New York on October 28, then be sure to drop by the Flatiron District LEGO store from 10AM-2PM to meet and greet LEGO Ideas set designer Ms. Maia Weinstock.

It is rare that tea and dragons ever cross my mind in the same thought. So I most definitely took note when I stumbled across Anthony Wilson’s Bionicle ‘Tea Dragon’ on display at BrickFair VA this year. It strikes me as something that would come right out of an Alice in Wonderland/Tinkerbell mash-up.
You’ve simply got to love how the face ridges slope down into the nose so seamlessly. And while the strong features of a Dragon are there, the reverse sea horse curl, gives it a softer more refined tea-friendly vibe.
I Personally love the blossoming and twisting ivy horns the most.
Ask any faithful Star Wars fan what is the highlight of their previous week and my best guess will be that of the release of the second official trailer of Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. Now viewed for more than 30 million times on YouTube since it was released Monday last week, the trailer’s debut was also accompanied with so many edge-of-your-seats cliffhangers and a lot of puzzling questions which will only be answered once the film is released on December 15. If for some reason you haven’t seen the trailer yet, or you simply want to see that twinkly eyed Porg once again, then you can watch the trailer below.
But it’s not just the video that sends the entire Star Wars fandom into a ‘Play Again’ frenzy. Last week also marked the release of TLJ’s official theatrical poster which continues the same dark, foreboding vibe that is dominant in the entire trailer. Similar to what it did with The Last Jedi’s character posters a few weeks ago where we see the ‘legolized’ versions of the main cast including Luke Skywalker himself, General Leia Organa, Rey, Kylo Ren, Finn, and Resistance Fighter Poe Dameron, LEGO was also quick to give its own rendition of the film’s latest theatrical poster, giving the seemingly dark sequel a sort of light-hearted breather.
It is interesting to see how LEGO tries to retain the original theme and feel of these posters, while at the same time giving it a unique LEGO twist. We first saw this approach when they released the ‘legolized’ version of The Force Awakens, and with Rogue One following a year later.
The original poster for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. The Force Awakens poster as interpreted by LEGO.The crew of Rogue One strikes a pose……and later given their own LEGO minifigure counterparts
Now, looking at this year’s most recent The Last Jedi poster I couldn’t help but wonder how much are we still missing in terms of potential LEGO The Last Jedi sets. As of to date, the LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens subtheme now has 16 sets under its belt, while Rogue One has 9. Given such numbers we can fairly predict that The Last Jedi will also have a similar, if not, an even larger number of sets dedicated to the sequel. Brickset already listed 11 sets under TLJ: with 7 already in the market, and 4 (sets 75197, 75200, 75201, and 75202) still kept under wraps. If you recall, I once posted my own wishlist of 7 LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi sets that I wanted to see even before the first wave of official LEGO TLJ sets were announced. As it turned out, 3 out 7 of these wish sets turned out to be true: Kylo Ren’s TIE Fighter (75179), the First Order Heavy Assault Walker (75189)previously thought to be labelled as AT-4X, and a Frigate-like starship the Resistance Bomber (75188).
Now I’m still hoping that LEGO will see how neat a Crait Resistance Skimmer set will be, which is frequently alluded to in the trailers and on the official posters. If you want to have an idea how it will look like in LEGO, then I suggest you check out Tyler’s version of this speeding skimmer.
Another potential set that can easily become a LEGO Star Wars fan favorite is Rey’s Jedi Training. It is not difficult to see why this wish set can become extremely popular because of the inclusion of old man Luke’s minifigure version. We tried to recreate how LEGO might have built it if it were to be an actual LEGO set, so be sure to check out Tyler’s rendition of it.
There are still plenty of potential LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi sets that are simmering in my mind. I’m also looking forward to having a play set with Snoke’s Praetorian Guards in it, another one that highlights the mysterious Jedi Temple, the intense duel between Finn and Captain Phasma, and of course, a set with an actual minifigure version of the Porgs (as opposed to the brick-built one included with the still elusive UCS Millennium Falcon 75192).
The first wave of LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi sets is now available, and we still have two months before we finally see TLJ in theaters. Are you excited to see what other The Last Jedi sets LEGO has to offer? What do you have in mind? Let us know in the comments below.
Earlier last September, it was revealedin LEGO’s Italian Store Calendar that set 40253 or the LEGO Christmas Build-Up will be one of this year’s seasonal LEGO Store giveaways. November’s LEGO Store Calendar in the US finally set it in stone when it officially announced that the LEGO Christmas Build-Up (40253) set will be a free promotional that comes with a qualifying purchase of any LEGO products worth $99 and above. Taking its cue from last year’s Christmas build and re-build set which is the Holiday Countdown Calendar (40222), this year’s seasonal freebie also highlights a similar play feature, coming in at 254 pieces.
Recently, LEGO’s servers have already been updated to include all the official images of this exclusive, LEGO Store giveaway set to be released from November 1 to 15, or until supplies last. Slightly similar to the highly popular LEGO Advent Calendars, the LEGO Christmas Build-Up (40253) allows young builders to create, and re-create 24 unique micro-builds. Take note that these builds cannot be built simultaneously, even with 254 pieces available at your disposal. We just have to wait and see until this set becomes available next month to exactly know how many micro-builds can you create out of this LEGO set, without taking apart the rest. We’ll keep you posted once Jason and Stephen picks this up and reviews them.
In the meantime, can you guess what objects these micro builds represent? Some of these can easily be recreated with relative ease using any of your existing LEGO pieces. So what do you think brick fans, which of these can you easily build?
We already have confirmation (and official images) of Wave 2 sets of The LEGO Ninjago Movie, slated to be available just in time for the holidays. This time around, we get a closer look at another set joining the 2nd wave of TLNM builds. Making its debut at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con last July, the LEGO Ninjago Movie garmadon, Garmadon, GARMADON! (70656) does not necessarily refers to the evil tyrant himself, but to the shark mech that he used against Ninjago City. It is also a play on words and a humorous reference to Benny’s Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! (70816) from The LEGO Movie back in 2014.
The LEGO Ninjago Movie garmadon, Garmadon, GARMADON! (70656) set is expected to be a Toys R Us exclusive, coming in at 830 pieces and retailing for $79.99. Though the set is expected to be available in the US starting December 1, TRU Japan’s website seems to be having an earlier promotion. 70656’s official images are now available online, with TRU Japan listing it to be available in the region starting November 3. Check these out.
Based on these images, and similar to the rest of the builds under the TLNM theme, the LEGO Ninjago Movie garmadon, Garmadon, GARMADON! (70656) is a scaled down version of the actual flying mech used by Garmadon in the film, though it still managed to retain its original design and particularly oversized feet. The set also features a hotdog stand which offers a lot of potential builds for City MOCs and other similar creations. Finally, garmadon, Garmadon, GARMADON! (70656) also offers six (6) minifigures namely, Garmadon, Lloyd, two (2) Shark Army soldiers, a Hot Dog Guy (which is basically a remake of the Hot Dog Man from LEGO CMF Series 13), and a girl with braces.
Last week’s New York Comic Con 2017 may all be over, but the waves of LEGO-related announcements released during the fan convention just kept on lingering. Unlike last year’s New York Comic Con, where LEGO introduced new sets such those coming from the DC Super Hero Girls theme, additionalLEGO Batman Movie sets, and an exclusive Batgirl mini-doll raffle giveaway, this year was, well… a bit uninspiring. There were no new themes or full LEGO sets that were announced, but more of what to expect from the LEGO BrickHeadz line. Needless to say, this year’s LEGO reveals were pretty nice in themselves so here’s a wrap-up of everything that LEGO has revealed or announced during the said annual fan convention.
First off, we have the obvious emphasis on one of LEGO’s brick-built, pop-styled themes – the LEGO BrickHeadz. Love or hate them, top brass from The LEGO Group made the call, nonetheless, of having two of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars saga as this year’s prized LEGO NYCC exclusive and giving them the LEGO BrickHeadz flavor. This year’s NYCC saw a handful of fortunate LEGO fans bringing home their very own and exclusively numbered, LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz Boba Fett and Han Solo in Carbonite (41498). Straight from the classic Star Wars saga, this exclusive BrickHeadz set comes in at 329 pieces and is the largest BrickHeadz set to be offered so far.
Hot on the heels of this exclusive LEGO set is also the announcement of more LEGO BrickHeadz in 2018. Specifically timed with the theatrical releases of some of the most highly anticipated super hero films, these BrickHeadz feature a new line of sets based on characters from the Justice League, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Avengers: Infinity War. This gives the relatively new line of LEGO theme a total number of 29 collectible sets to eye on, excluding those that were exclusively offered during Comic Cons.
Next, we have more cool announcements coming from the good ‘ol folks of Warner Bros Interactive and TT Games. Also revealed during one of the NYCC panels, TT Games brought to stage several cool updates about the much awaited LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. TT Games Head of Design, Arthur Parsons, revealed what fans can expect from the game’s Season Pass, which offers six Level Packs and four Character Packs boosting the overall number of playable LEGO Marvel characters to up to more than 260 characters.
Finally, it was also revealed at NYCC that the Black Panther will have his very own LEGO movie entitled Trouble in Wakanda. It seems that T’Challa will be getting a lot of screen time – not only with his own stand-alone and self-titled MCU film set to be released in February and the Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 in May, we can now also expect him starring in his own LEGO film.
Details about Trouble in Wakanda are scant as of the moment, and we don’t have any details of its plot or release date. What we do know is that LEGO seems to be focusing a lot of attention on a single, Marvel character since this is the very first solo superhero movie that they ever made. We do have a lot of superhero, brick-built movies before, but this is the very first film that is dedicated to a single character. Will this be a start of something like a series of stand-alone LEGO superhero films in the future, following the methods of both MCU and DCEU? We just have to wait and see.
It is also not far-fetched to consider that this might be another direct-to-DVD/Blu-Ray film unlike its big production movies such as The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie, and the more recent, LEGO Ninjago Movie. My best guess is that it will be released alongside its theatrical MCU counterpart, the Black Panther, and may also come with an exclusive, free LEGO minifigure which of course will definitely drive sales of Trouble in Wakanda.
What LEGO NYCC announcement were you most excited about? For one, I’m looking forward to LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 and I’m sure our resident gaming guru, Brick Show Brian, already has his sights locked into playing and giving you a walk-through of this game. So be sure to follow his YouTube channel and keep tabs with us for more LEGO news and updates.

Good news for all Nintendo Switch owners! If you’re looking forward to having a copy of the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 for the Nintendo Switch, then you’ll be pleased to know that you’ll get the whole nine yards in the Switch, as much as in any other consoles. This is the promise given by Arthur Parsons, TT Games’ Head of Design during one of his interviews at last week’s New York Comic Con.
Speaking about the game’s availability via the Nintendo Switch platform, Parsons gave the assurance that the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 gaming experience and content will all be the same regardless of gaming platform or console. Most, if not all, of LEGO’s previous video games are known for being noticeably reduced in content for Nintendo releases – whether it be less characters, the absence of DLCs, or a shorter story mode. However, this time around, Parson emphasized that the Switch’s version will never miss a heartbeat in delivering the game’s vast open world and massive collection of playable Marvel characters. In fact, the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 co-op experience will be quite unique in the Nintendo Switch due to its split screen Joy-Con play. Here’s Fansided with their interview with Parsons.
Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 is a game entirely for the fans. Parsons spoke a bit about what the game will look like on Switch. Previous Lego titles were often heavily altered before releasing on a Nintendo console. This manifested in different ways: possibly fewer characters, a lack of DLC, or even an abbreviated campaign mode. Luckily, none of those will be the case this time around. Parsons assured me when Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 releases on Switch, it will be the exact same game as what’s released on PS4 and Xbox One. Absolutely no changes will be made, and the season pass will be available in its entirety. The game will also feature split Joy-Con support throughout the game, including the arena and story modes.
The game’s newest story trailer has been released already, with the promise of more exclusive content when you pre-order its Deluxe Edition. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 will be released on November 14 and will be available across major gaming platforms such as the Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Warner Bros Interactive has just released some interesting back story behind the highly anticipated LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. The newest story trailer has just rolled out a few moments ago and in typical LEGO wackiness, shows how Knowhere’s canine Head of Security – Cosmo the Spacedog – telepathically rallied Marvel’s superheroes to unite against the schemes of the game’s time-traveling villain, Kang the Conqueror.
First shown to audiences at last week’s New York Comic Con, the trailer also highlights an interesting storyline that hints on how Kang may eventually defeated. It mentions several powerful crystals (much like to the idea behind the Infinity Stones) that can be found all over Chronopolis. The story trailer seems to suggest that in order to defeat Kang, players will go through several missions to gather the crystals and to use them against him to thwart his evil plans. Here’s the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 official story trailer with additional info on what to expect from the game once it becomes available on November 14.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today released a NEW trailer for LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, diving deeper into the original branching storyline featured in this all-new LEGO adventure. Recently debuted at New York Comic Con, the video stars lovable canine, Cosmo the Spacedog – telepathic Soviet cosmonaut, Knowhere’s chief of security and ally to the Guardians of the Galaxy – who is tasked with alerting and assembling an elite team of Super Heroes to take on the time-travelling Super Villain, Kang the Conqueror. Kang has stolen numerous Marvel cities and locations from across time and space to form the expansive Open Hub World of Chronopolis, in hopes to take over the universe. As a result, Cosmo’s call to action brings together a diverse group of Marvel Super Heroes from different time periods and realities – including Star-Lord, Thor, Spider-Man, Spider-Gwen, Hulk, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Rocket Raccoon, Iron Man, Cowboy Captain America, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Groot and many more – who must all band together to foil Kang’s diabolical plans.
If you’re excited as much as we are in trying this game, then you may want to pre-order its Deluxe Edition which gives you access to the game’s Season Pass, loaded with additional content and characters lifted from upcoming MCU films and series such as the Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and many more.
Other than the Classic GOTG Character Packs, pre-ordering the Deluxe edition of the game also entitles you to additional content coming from some of Marvel’s comic book series such as Agents of Atlas, Out of Time, and Champions boosting its roster of playable characters to as many as 260+ characters. It will also include several exclusives such as a comic art poster and a free Giant Man minifigure. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is slated to hit stores on November 14, 2017.
