Not long after it was announced that Tiffany Haddish is joining the cast for The LEGO Movie 2, direct sequel to the 2014 surprise hit animated film, one of its producers (and co-director of the original LEGO Movie) decided to do some advanced promotion… at the humorous expense of another film.
Chris Miller, part of the directorial tandem with Phil Lord for The LEGO Movie in 2014, posted on his Twitter page to build hype about a movie filled with characters from different films, TV series and videogames in one shared universe. It sounds like Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, right?
There’s a certain movie coming out w/ a bunch of famous characters from different movies & TV shows & games that all interact in the same shared universe, and let me tell you, it is AWESOME. Yep, THE LEGO MOVIE 2 is coming this February.
Ha-ha, but no. It runs out Miller was actually plugging The LEGO Movie2, which he notes as “coming this February”. But as this year’s February was last month, he of course means February of 2019 next year, a cheeky reference to the massive schedule delay in the movie’s premiere.
Then again, there are some similarities in both the LEGO Movie franchise and Ready Player One, particularly the numerous licensed franchises that pop up in their respective narratives. The original source of RPO’s story, the 2011 novel by Ernest Cline, was a love letter to 1980s-90s geek culture after all.
Scant information has been given away on the nature of The LEGO Movie 2’s plot, but there are hints that it involves the differences in LEGO play between boys and girls. Most of the original film’s voice cast is reprising their roles. Lord and Miller shift from co-directors to producers.
Being the storied global toy and children’s product brand that it has been for many decades now, The LEGO Group is an old hand when it comes to protecting its name and challenging any company it perceives as knocking them off. They’ve done so around the world for many years.
One can only imagine how LEGO – after going after knockoff LEGO-likes in China late last year – is going to react to this latest quirky development by Elon Musk for his Boring Company. On his Twitter page, Musk proposed repurposing all the dirt dug up by his Boring Company’s future operations.
His idea is to transform that dug-up earth into bricks; not just simple construction bricks but life-sized “LEGO-like” interlocking bricks for structures. Note that his tweet specifically described these prospective construction bricks as LEGO-like. He even added that the first set can be used to build copies of the Pyramids.
First kit set will be ancient Egypt — pyramids, Sphinx, temple of Horus, etc
Granted, a number of posts made by Elon Musk for The Boring Company, which does tunnel engineering and construction, have been seriously “huh”-inducing (like flamethrowers). It’s interesting to ponder how LEGO would address the issue of Musk’s “LEGO-like” construction bricks, in light of the company making “green” recycled-material bricks themselves.
After the reveal of Cinderella’s Carriage as the LEGO set included with DK’s very first LEGO Disney Princess: Build Your Own Adventure, it looks like we finally know what our next buildable set coming from this book series. Amazon has currently listed a new DK LEGO Ninjago Build Your Own Adventure book, dubbed as the Greatest Ninja Battles. This next DK offering like before, features an exclusive LEGO Ninjago buildable vehicle – Nya’s Hover Bike.
Nya’s Hover Bike is an amphibious vehicle that converts from a speeding bike to a hover craft that can travel over water. It is equipped with two stud shooters in front, and looks pretty cool when it is in its speeder bike form particularly the use of transclear blue wheel pieces – it reminds me of LEGO Ideas TRON actually. The Hover Bike also comes with what seems to be a new torso of Nya.
DK’s LEGO Ninjago Build Your Own Adventure Greatest Ninja Battles is set to be released on July 30 in the US, and is expected to retail for $20. Here are the rest of the book’s details as mentioned via Amazon.

Marvel Entertainment has just announced that filming has officially begun on Disney and Marvel’s 21st feature film in the ever-growing expanse of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As it seems, Disney still has a lot of plans for the MCU after The Avengers: Infinity War, and seeing one of the comic books’ icons come alive in the big screen is something that the MCU creative people have already lined-up. Earlier today, Inside the Magic reported that Brie Larson, who will be playing the titular role of MCU’s first main heroine Captain Marvel, have begun researching on the character of Carol Danvers at the Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.

Additional reports from Screen Rant details Captain Marvel’s official synopsis, and other MCU characters that will make a comeback in this next MCU film. According to Marvel Entertainment’s official press release, Captain Marvel’s story will be a prequel of sorts, set in the 1990s and more specifically, to the events leading to the first Guardians of the Galaxy film.
“The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
We will also see the return of several MCU characters including Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson), Agent Phil Coulson (reprised by Clark Gregg), Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), and Korath the Pursuer (Djimon Hounsou). We will also see Jude Law taking on the role of Walter Lawson (aka the Kree hero Mar-Vell), and yet to be revealed roles for Lashana Lynch (Brotherhood), and Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One).
Hearing what lies ahead for MCU’s Captain Marvel, and how it is placed in MCU’s timeline before the significant events of the first Iron Man film and GOTG, I couldn’t help but be excited on the possible LEGO tie-in sets that will come together with this film before its expected release by March next year. Since we know that several MCU characters will be returning, and that they were already featured in some LEGO Marvel Super Heroes set, then it is not far-fetched to consider that they will be returning, with new LEGO sets added to their belts.
First off, it will be nice to see a particular set devoted to Agent Coulson and Nick Fury. As of the moment, we only have the Iron Man: Detroit Steel Strikes (76077) that includes this particular S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, while the latter can be found in Spider-Man: Spider Cycle Chase (76004) and humongous SHIELD Helicarrier (76042). It will be great to see both of them in a single set.

Like Agent Coulson, the judicial Kree officer Ronan the Accuser can only be found on one set which is 2014’s The Milano Spaceship Rescue (76021). Though we still yet to see a Korath minifigure, we can somehow expect the possibility that a minifig and a set dedicated to him may likewise be in the works already.
The Milano Spaceship Rescue (76021)
Since it was already announced that the Kree hero Mar-Vell will also make an appearance, then it is very possible that we will be seeing a minifig rendition of him as well, perhaps together with Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel minifigure. For the latter, it is not a long shot to consider that LEGO designers might render her in minifigure form, taking its cue from earlier images of Brie Larson donning a green, superhero suit as you can see below.
These are just some of my initial thoughts based on what Marvel Entertainment has revealed thus far, and whatever LEGO has cooked up for its future LEGO Marvel Superhero sets, I’m positive that it is as equally awesome as the MCU film themselves. For the meantime, let’s enjoy our LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Avengers: Infinity War sets, as we wait for MCU’s culminating film next month.
Following the success of the Modular Arcade as the next LEGO Ideas project that reached the needed 10k fan votes, we now have another one from Ellen Koojiman (or Alatariel over at LEGO Ideas) and Brad Meltzer that garnered the necessary support to qualify it for the First 2018 LEGO Ideas Review Stage – the LEGO Ideas I Am Amelia Earhart.
This LEGO Ideas project is based on the bestselling book series of the same title by Brad Meltzer and Chris Eliopoulos. It features a fairly small build of Amelia Earhart’s bright yellow Kinner Airster biplane nicknamed ‘The Canary’. The road to receive 10K votes was relatively long for this project since its inception and submission more than 2 years ago. The LEGO Ideas Project I Am Amelia Earhart comes in at 186 pieces and features a minifigure version of Earhart as rendered in the books.
Amelia Earhart was a girl who loved adventure, and never let anybody stop her from trying new things. Even things that girls had never done before—like flying all the way across the Atlantic Ocean. Eventually she broke flying records and proved to the world that women can soar just as high as men.
Based on the bestselling book series by Brad Meltzer and Chris Eliopoulos, this set consists of the bright yellow biplane that Amelia Earhart bought for herself. She named it Canary (which is a cool name for a plane, right?).
Plus, you get an Amelia Earhart minifigure!
This set has a wonderful educational value, but it’s also downright fun. Fly! Zoom! And of course, soar!
The presented set consists of 186 parts. Please support it if you’d like to see it as a real product. Our true goal is to then give you the rest of the heroes in the book series: I am Abraham Lincoln, I am Rosa Parks, I am Albert Einstein, and so many more…
Help give your kids real heroes.
Like the book says: I am Amelia Earhart. I know no bounds. And I hope you’ll remember that the greatest flight you’ll ever take is the one no one has tried before.

Over the weekend, our friends from Promobricks were in LEGOLAND Germany located in the town of Günzburg, when they spotted an unlikely surprise. During their coverage of LEGOLAND Germany’s Press Conference, they naturally decided to pay a visit to the theme park’s in-house LEGO Store – and one of the things that they discovered was a pretty neat, new LEGO novelty item.
Displayed among the shelves of the LEGO Store there was the never-before-seen LEGO Pencil Pot (40188) that retails for 14.99 Euros. Here are first images of its box art as spotted in the wild.

The Pencil Pot (40188) stands on a 16×16 base plate that can easily pass as a lovely vignette. It features a garage-type build with an open roof, with movable garage gate, door, and windows. It also highlights a flower garden, together with what looks like a new minifigure with a buildable lawn mower and other garden tools and accessories. I like the concept behind this Pencil Pot build, especially the inclusion of a Lawn Mower guy minifig. The box art also suggest that the LEGO Pencil Pot (40188) may also be combined with another LEGO novelty which is the LEGO Picture Frame (40173) from last year, making it a nice tabletop display.

There is no word yet if this is a LEGOLAND Germany exclusive, but I certainly hope that this set will eventually find its way in US shores and other LEGO Stores across the globe. It would be a lovely desktop piece either in the home or in the office, and will be surely a day 1 purchase for me. Thanks again to Promobricks for the heads up.
We’ve been doing coverage whenever we could, of singular MOCs submitted for consideration in the LEGO Ideas platform that has managed to garner the magic number of 10,000 supporters. Already there have been enough Ideas entry passers to fill the ranks of the projects comprising the First 2018 Review Stage.
If your LEGO-building interests are less like the SR-71 Final Flight and more of the structural bent like the Christmas Story House, then this latest 10K winner is for you. Astronaut Avila on LEGO Ideas has created the Modular Arcade building, a brick-and-mortar structure housing two businesses and an apartment.
The Modular Arcade has three stories, a ground-floor pizza parlor, a second-floor video arcade and a third-floor single apartment. The details on all the interior locations are spot on, from soda fountains, transparent display cases with pizzas, arcade machines from driving games to dance platforms, and a flat-screen TV and kitchen.
The architectural styling is no less than incredible, with door access for the pizza parlor, and internal stairway up to the arcade, and a spiraling staircase in the back to get to the apartment’s porch. The pizzeria has an outdoor table too, while the arcade has a space ride next to their entrance.
Of course, a LEGO building set isn’t complete without a minifigure population. Astronaut Avila provides for eight people in his Modular Arcade set: a chef, waitress and customers for the pizza parlor; a clerk and two customers for the arcade (one a kid); and a solo occupant for the apartment.
All in all, the Modular arcade is shaping up to be a strong contender for the LEGO Ideas First 2018 Review Stage. It’s up against some awesome competition too; aside from the SR-71, there’s the Tree House set, and Tyler’s a buildable figure of Disney’s Stitchcharacter from Lilo & Stitch.
Last October, the Marvel Animation panel at the New York Comic Con announced that famed King of Wakanda will be having his very own LEGO movie. Alongside MCU’s Black Panther film, this LEGO mini-movie entitled LEGO Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda, will be on the same vein such as the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Avengers Re-Assembled and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Maximum Overload. Other than having his very own LEGO movie spin-off, details were scant about what was announced back then – until now.
CBR has recently shared several interesting details on this upcoming LEGO animated short starring T’Challa. According to the report, Trouble in Wakanda will be aired this summer on Disney XD, and will see the return of several voice actors. Returning to voice T’Challa is James Mathis III from Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, Keston John (Bosch) as Killmonger, Daisy Lightfoot (Horizon: Zero Dawn) as Shuri, Yvette Nicole Brown (Community) as Okoye, Trevor Devall (Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy) as Klaue, Mick Wingert (Kung Fu Panda) as Iron Man, Travis Willingham (Sonic Boom) as Thor, Roger Craig Smith (Marvel’s Avengers Assemble) as Captain America, Laura Bailey (Marvel’s Spider-Man) as Black Widow, Fred Tatasciore (Family Guy) as Hulk, Liam O’Brien (Critical Role) as Doctor Strange, and Isaac C. Singleton Jr. (Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy) as Thanos.
According to the animated film’s official synopsis, The LEGO Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda will have T’Challa face off some of the most formidable Marvel villains that threatens his throne. Similar to what we can expect from MCU’s Avengers: Infinity War, we will see the likes of Thanos as he arrives from outer space and joined by the likes of rogue villains Killmonger and Ulysses Klaue in creating havoc to the technologically advanced kingdom of Wakanda. The Black Panther must now team-up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in order to stop the Mad Titan, and ensuring the security and protection of his people.
There is no exact release date yet on Disney XD, except for the fact that The LEGO Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda will be aired sometime in summer. Stay tuned here at the Brick Show for more updates.
When The LEGO Movie hit cinemas back in 2014, it sort of opened the door for LEGO-themed animated productions to go beyond just direct-to-video releases and get their own spot in the limelight by premiering in theaters too. Since then, the LEGO Batman Movie and LEGO Ninjago Movie graced the silver screen.
But if you thought that these films were sequels to the original LEGO Movie, they’re actually spinoffs building up to a larger LEGO movie-verse. A direct sequel to the 2014 film is in development, with most of the voice cast set to reprise their roles, with one prominent new addition.
Actress and comedienne Tiffany Haddish has now been revealed to be joining the LEGO Movie sequel. She has been billed to be a new “key character” for the film which puts her at equal footing with the main characters and Master Builder couple Emmet Brickowski (Chris Pratt) and Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks).
Other returning voice cast includes Will Arnett as Bruce Wayne and Batman from both the first LEGO Movie and the LEGO Batman spinoff; Channing Tatum as Superman and Jonah Hill as Green Lantern. Original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are producing this time, with Mike Mitchell directing this time.
No plot details have been divulged thus far, other than that The LEGO Movie 2 will come out on February of 2019. Tiffany Haddish had a breakout role in 2017’s Girls Trip and has been part of The Carmichael Show since 2015. She’s also authored The Last Black Unicorn (2017).
