LEGO Designer videos long have been informative sources of information on the development of many major LEGO sets. When a notable set is released, a designer video is bound to follow. The timing however has grown in variation these past few instances. LEGO’s latest video covers a certain LEGO Harry Potter 20th-anniversary set already long released. Shipping delay issues in the Americas notwithstanding, the Hogwarts Icons – Collector’s Edition (76391) has been available since September. So why did LEGO provide a designer video for it only this week? Whatever the reason, it’s available here now, and we thank The Brick Fan for this nice heads up.
Marcos Bessa, LEGO Design Master, serves as our host for the LEGO HP Hogwarts Icons – Collector’s Edition (76391) video. A set designed for this LEGO theme’s 20th anniversary makes epic call-backs to several items from the book/film franchise. Bessa takes us through the set’s elements, from Tom Riddle’s Diary, to Hermione’s potions tray and the magnificent brick-built Hedwig. Let’s not forget the accompanying three golden minifigures commemorating 20 years of LEGO Harry Potter. And yes, filling your name on the blank for your Hogwarts admission letter is an exciting experience.
Potter-fans take heart. The LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Icons – Collector’s Edition (76391) remains available on Shop@Home. Picking it up now also guarantees your gift-with-purchase of the Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms (40452) modular mini-set. Note that this promo lasts only while there are supplies left, or until November 7, whichever comes first.
Ever had those days when you get worked up over an event you’re anticipating being cancelled, except not really? That must have been some LEGO collectors/”Harry Potter” fans this month following the official LEGO Store calendar’s…alterations. In mid-October LEGO released another version of their October 2021 store calendar without its LEGO Harry Potter GWPs. They were supposed to go live later this month and carry on over to November. The Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms (40452) was “new” enough (actually a reimagining of an early LHP mini-set) to warrant attention. Just when we thought we’ll have to wait until next month…they launch.
Brickset.com confirms with us that come October 25, the apparently-removed LEGO Harry Potter GWPs kicked off as originally scheduled. You can see them now in Shop@Home’s promos & discounts page. Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms can be yours for any LEGO Harry Potter purchase of $100 and above. If you’re buying from a LEGO Store you can also get Hermione’s Study Desk (30392) for $40 and up. Both offers, as the saying goes, remain available while supplies last. But if these gifts-with-purchase sets were going to be around anyway, then why the second, LHP-less store calendar? LEGO hasn’t explained. And while we can be relieved, we understand if some are still annoyed at the fake-out(?).
As for other territories, the minimum spend for Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms (40452) are as follows: The UK and Europe are both 100 (£ and €, respectively), while Australia has AU$200.
For LEGO Harry Potter fans, the removal of the 10th anniversary GWPs from LEGO’s October 2021 store calendar sucked. There’s just no mincing of words for how collectors must feel. They could wait if they want for October 25. LEGO Harry Potter Gryffindor Dorms (40452) was supposed to launch as GWP that day. But if LEGO went so far as to reissue their store calendar with the promo excised, then too bad. We can only hope that they’ll be present for November 2021, since the promo was supposed to cross over. At least we have these nice images of it.
LEGO Shop@Home Australia beats all others in putting up a product listing for Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms (40452). We can now discern clearly that the minimal dorm set features two four-poster beds for Harry and Ron each. They also get a trunk, a letter piece, a candle and their wands (naturally). As already revealed earlier, their dorm back wall is a space to display LEGO Harry Potter’s Wizarding World trading-card tiles. Four random tiles are packed in every LEGO HP 10th anniversary-release set, including this GWP. Now if only it will come out this November, along with Hermione’s Study Desk (30392).
AU$29.99 (Free Item/Gift with Purchase) | Age 8+ | 148 pieces | 135 VIP points (Australia only?)
Harry and Ron in the Gryffindor™ dorm with 2 beds and magical accessories. Also includes 4 random wizard card tiles and a 16-card display plate for a growing collection.
Just in case you “Harry Potter” and LEGO fans forgot, LEGO reminds you again that the theme’s 10 years old. This 20th anniversary celebration for “LEGO Harry Potter” is happening all year long. We’ve been getting new sets and new LEGO Store promos (or at least there were this October). And LEGO also has been getting famous figures attached to the “Harry Potter” franchise to say hello. Their latest guest is actor Matthew Lewis, aka Neville Longbottom. That’s right: destroyer of the last Horcrux (and tragic prequel character) and “technical” savior of the Wizarding World.
Yes, look at the thumbnail of that video, released last weekend on YouTube. Matthew Lewis had a massive glow-up from his chubby freshman and unassuming 7th-year looks, eh? But what has LEGO planned for his guest video? Why, Matt’s being challenged to build his 20 favorite scenes from the “Harry Potter” films, using the 20th anniversary LEGO sets! And boy did it look like he was having fun doing just that. One reason might be that Lewis was also sneaking side-commentary on what his own character was doing. Indeed, Neville slaying Nagini the last Horcrux is (in Matt’s POV) better than Harry killing the Basilisk.
As September came to an end, LEGO gave us a glimpse of this month, on their official LEGO Store Calendar. The promotions we expected for October 2021 looked like a well-varied ensemble. Original themes like Creator Expert Winter Village and LEGO Friends were side-by-side with licensed IPs. These included “Super Mario” and “Harry Potter,” the latter of which was celebrating 20 years. No less than two LEGO HP gifts-with-purchase awaited buyers on LEGO Stores according to the October calendar. Well in the middle of this month things underwent an abrupt change. The Brick Fan has alerted us to this development.
Take a look at the new October 2021 LEGO Store Calendar, as presented on LEGO’s servers. Take a peek at the original edition here for comparison. Yes, the LEGO Harry Potter GWPs are just gone. Hermione’s Study Desk (30392) and Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms (40452) both just disapparated from the calendar promos. The new, bigger LEGO Friends GWP spot comes across as very jarring without Gryffindor Dorms beside it. The removal was quite surgical too. Both LEGO HP GWPs were to become available starting October 25, the last day of the month. And LEGO doesn’t look like it’s willing to explain.
Honestly, it’s a shame that 30392 and 40452 have been shafted, at least for the rest of October. Gryffindor Dorms, being a revamp of an early-days LEGO HP set, would have been a sought-after special offer. Collectors perhaps might be able to pin the blame on supply chain disruptions caused by the pandemic. They messed up the arrival of Hogwarts Icons (76391) in North America; they could do the same for these GWPs. Hopefully they’ll finally be available next month.
With LEGO, what was once old and simple can become new and intricate several years later. In the early days of LEGO Harry Potter, something like Gryffindor House (4772) was already a big deal. A lot can be done already with a bedroom-study room combo and two minifigs. That set however comes up short at a time when LEGO Harry Potter is already 20 years old. There arose rumors last week of a new LEGO HP set depicting the Gryffindor Dorms as a GWP for October. We can now confirm those rumors thanks to LEGO.
As Brick Fanatics tells us, the October 2021 LEGO Store Calendar features this new LEGO Harry Potter set. Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms (40452) reimagines the rather ancient Gryffindor House (4772) from decades ago with magical detail. Harry and Ron minifigures share a modular-built bedroom setup with a bunk bed, trunk and plenty of miscellaneous accessories. But check out the back wall of the bedroom. It looks like a display space for LEGO tiles depicting the in-universe Wizarding World trading cards. These tile cards are collectible in 20th-Anniversary LEGO HP products. Even the in-store GWP Hermione’s Study Desk polybag (30392) has them.
By the way, we mentioned the modular nature of the Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms (40452) set. It makes perfect sense considering the modularity prevalent in the more recent LEGO Harry Potter releases. You can add the Gryffindor Dorms to mix and match with Polyjuice Potion Mistake (76386) and its fellow sets to customize your Hogwarts Castle interior. Remember, this GWP comes free with every total LEGO Harry Potter product purchase above $100. Catch it from October 25 to November 7, both in-store and on LEGO Shop@Home.
LEGO’s an old hand at “everything old is new again.” We’ve seen some of their older sets revamped and renumbered years or even decades later. The latest versions tend to be bigger and more detailed. Compare the LEGO Star Wars UCS’s for Millennium Falcon (75192) and Republic Gunship (75309) with earlier iterations. Now, it looks to be happening again to another major IP done in LEGO, “Harry Potter.” Rumors circulate on LEGO-specific social media about a GWP for next month. It’s said to be a rehash of an earlier LEGO Harry Potter set, reimagined for the licensed theme’s 20th anniversary.
Brick Fanatics reports that Instagram users ac_bricks_03 and 1414falconfan are hyping a LEGO Harry Potter GWP for October-November. They call it the Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms (40452), a gift-with-purchase to buyers of a minimum $100 in LEGO HP sets. Speculations on said IG pages claim that the set will include Harry and Ron minifigs. That sounds awfully like the early LEGO Harry Potter Gryffindor House (4722) set. That one had minimal brick-built reproductions of the Gryffindor Common Room and a student’s bedroom. This alleged GWP set 40452 expands the setting and apparently makes it compatible with the modular 20th anniversary sets.
If so, then LEGO HP collectors who have yet to buy Hogwarts: Polyjuice Potion Mistake (76386) and its brethren are in luck. If they purchase said 20th anniversary sets from October 25 to November 7 then they might score this GWP. That makes for a lot of modular assembly fun in fleshing out the “Harry Potter” story in LEGO. Then of course, word about Hogwarts Gryffindor Dorms (40452) is still rumor at this stage. Keep that grain of salt handy as we wait for LEGO to come clean about this.
For the rest of the world, LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Icons – Collector’s Edition (76391) has already been available for buyers. For North America, the wait has been quite tedious. The tired old “shipping delay” issue has been a plague on hot upcoming LEGO sets, particularly this. Becoming pre-orderable on LEGO Shop@Home US back in September 2 has helped but not much. The new release date of September 15, the middle of this month, seemed so far away still. But it’s the middle of September now. And NA LEGO Potter-fans can now rejoice that Hogwarts Icons (76391) is at last available.
Check out the online listing immediately and be relieved in the vivid green letters saying “Available now.” LEGO Harry Potter collectors celebrating the theme’s 20th anniversary will likely not be put off by the $249.99 asking price. They are after all getting brick-built reproductions of major items/artifacts/relics from the “Harry Potter” franchise. And of course, that buildable Hedwig is magnificent.
But that’s not everything. A single purchase of Hogwarts Icons – Collector’s Edition (76391) before September ends will sufficiently qualify for an extended GWP. Yep, LEGO Ideas Sailboat Adventure (40487) is still around. It’s only until the end of the month, so better make it quick.
If the release of some magnificent LEGO sets like Hogwarts Icons – Collector’s Edition (76391) hadn’t clued you in, LEGO is currently celebrating 20 years of the LEGO Harry Potter line. And what better way to spread the joy than for LEGO to give some of their latest HP sets away? But this is not without some effort, of course. LEGO Ideas has launched a contest accepting all Potter-Brick-heads looking to dazzle the Brick Wizarding World. For the 20th Anniversary of LEGO Harry Potter, what magical build can you offer to win five related sets including Hogwarts Icons – Collector’s Edition (76391)?
As one can gather from the contest details page in LEGO Ideas, the objective is a LEGO Harry Potter MOC. It has to be, according to the contest people, a “magnificent magical creative” build. And as an additional thematic challenge, the build must have the number “20” displayed somewhere. 20 years of LEGO HP and we mustn’t forget. Ideas members looking to participate can present a physical build or one designed via digital tools (eg. LEGO Brick Designer). Only five photos from multiple angles and focused on details and features are needed. For best resolution the shortest edge has to be 1080 pixels at minimum.
This LEGO Harry Potter 20th Anniversary contest is already running now until October 6. The Grand Prize winner gets these:
So either way, winner or runner-up will receive a guaranteed LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Icons – Collector’s Edition (76391) set. Given delivery delays in North America (mollified only by LEGO Shop@Home US already accepting pre-orders), this might be a more fun way to get this beauty.
Please refer to the contest page for further details and judging criteria. A winner (and the runners-up) will be chosen by on October 21, and officially announced on the 28th.
Last week, LEGO announced the apparent delay of its highly anticipated LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Icons – Collectors’ Edition (76391) set. If you recall, the initial plan was to have this LEGO 18+ set released today. But due to unavoidable shipping delays, its official release date will be moved two weeks later on September 15. It’s a bit disappointing actually, especially for those who are eagerly waiting to build and display this magnificent set.
Thankfully, LEGO Shop@Home has opted to offer a kind of consolation to fans. Because starting today, you may now pre-order the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Icons – Collectors’ Edition (76391) over at LEGO’s home shopping portal. Take note however that this pre-order opportunity is only available online, so expect that this set might end up being in backorder status rather quickly.
