If you recall, one of the highlights of the June LEGO Store Calendar is the DC Super Hero Girls Building Event, held on two separate dates. Taking its cue from one of its recent DC Superhero Girls theme, these building events are similar to the LEGO Store’s Monthly Mini Builds where participants are required to register first before being able to participate. Last month, participants who were fortunate enough to register were able to build and bring home a Wonder Woman and/or Supergirl Miniland-scale figure for free
This time, in case you missed the event, you can now build your very own DC Superhero Girls exactly as they were offered last June thanks to the building instructions posted by Brickset. It seems that these instructions do not require any special piece or element so they’re relatively easy to build. See if you can sort out through your LEGO collection and try to build these mini-models. I personally like the Supergirl build with the pieces cleverly angled to create her arms and emblem.
If there is such a thing as a Golden Age of Saturday morning Disney cartoons, then I will bet my LEGO bricks in that period between the late 80s until the 90s. Growing up in this period of classic cartoons is like falling in love with Disney TV shows for the very first time. One particular show in mind that wooed me in anticipation every week (other than the globe-trottin’ and treasure-seeking adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his posse of feathered-friends in DuckTales), is the high-flying vigilante missions of Darkwing Duck. The fun and fast-paced tone of the show defined an era of Disney morning cartoons that became largely a part of my childhood. If you were not around yet during the heyday of these shows, then I suggest you check out the video below.
Now that Disney XD is off to launch a reboot of DuckTales which will air on August 12, feelings of nostalgia have swept the hearts of most fans of the show. We may no longer be that same wide-eyed kid that sat in front of the TV screen amazed by the adventures of Darkwing Duck and Launchpad McQuack, but our love for the show is still definitely there. Perhaps this is what master builder Okay Yaramanoglu has in mind in creating these LEGO BrickHeadz versions of the show’s characters. Rendered using LEGO Digital Designer (LDD), these versions of Darkwing, Launchpad, Scrooge McDuck and Gizmoduck are all ready to get dangerous.
I like the way Scrooge’s spectacles were conveyed using a pair of clear studs, while Launchpad signature lock of orange feathers was cleverly represented by a minifigure headpiece. Most of Yaramanoglu’s BrickHeadz MOCs follows a 90s cartoon theme, including other Disney TV franchises such as Chip n Dale’s Rescue Rangers and TaleSpin. He even created BrickHeadz versions of the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles straight from the 80s. These LEGO BrickHeadz MOCs from Yaramanoglu are also his entries for Brickset’s 2017 BrickHeadz Competition. Yesterday, we saw the minifigure listing of this year’s LEGO Star Wars sets under The Last Jedi subtheme. Some of these sets were named already, while others are still shrouded in anonymity, with only their respective set numbers as our point of reference. While leaked images of these TLJ sets are making its rounds over the Internet, we do not have the slightest idea what these other sets are.
However, this may no longer be the case. Just recently, Star Wars fan site Rebel Scum, managed to acquire not just one, but as it seems, the whole range of LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi winter set images. Again, let me make it clear that we are not at liberty to show these images here, but I guess it will not hurt to take a peek (albeit, through a very distorted looking glass) so here we go.

More than a month has passed since the LEGO Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V (21309) has been launched into the market, and it seems that the LEGO Ideas team never quite expected the huge demand for this replica of the iconic rocket ship. As a result, some fans are still anxiously waiting if they will still be able to purchase, while some went far to speculate that the set has been retired, or will be retired eventually, making the set’s aftermarket sales insanely expensive. As of this writing, the set is currently out of stock at shop.LEGO.com, with very limited quantities, if not, none at all at some LEGO brand stores. Historically, though LEGO Ideas sets are not really produced in large quantities as compared to other major LEGO themes, the NASA Apollo Saturn V set has proven to be so popular that limited supplies of this set were quickly sold out.
Thankfully, Hasan Jensen of the LEGO Ideas Team has issued a statement to clarify the rumors of the LEGO Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V’s availability. Read on for Hasan’s announcement.

The leaks are strong with this one. Since last May, the Internet is rife with leaked images of the next wave of LEGO Star Wars set slated for this year’s biggest Star Wars movie event. From a fan’s perspective, it’s quite inevitable, considering the excitement that Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi has stirred up, especially after Disney and Lucasfilm dropped the film’s first official teaser trailer. LEGO Star Wars fans all over (including myself) has been dying to see a glimpse of how things will turn out in the film, and having a peek at the LEGO sets dedicated to the film will somehow give us an idea of things to come. But first things first: if you’re expecting to see these leaked images here in our website, well, I hate to burst your bubble – you’ll never get to see them here. However, if you know how to follow Google’s and Reddit’s trail of bread crumbs, then I trust that you know the way.
In any case, Star Wars News Net has recently shared a breakdown of the minifigures coming from the LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi sets, which I believe, we are at liberty to share. Some of these sets are still yet to be named or identified and are only identifiable by their set numbers. It is interesting to note the names of never-before-seen minifigure characters such as BB-9E, Vice Admiral Holdo, and Paige to name a few. I guess we just have to wait until the movie goes out it in December to know how these characters will play out.

There’s a lot to expect from this year’s Force Friday once it kicks off on September 1. The LEGO Ninjago Movie panel is also drawing in a good number attendees as of this writing, and for a good reason. Not only will it be graced by the stars of the film such as Dave Franco, Justin Theroux, Abbi Jacobson, Olivia Munn, Kumail Nanjiani, Michael Peña and Zach Woods, but there’s also a promise of a movie-themed, exclusive give away for the audience.
Another program to watch out for is the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2: Meet the Talent Behind the Video Game panel. Warner Bros. Gaming and TT Games have collaborated to give the audience a preview of the games latest game trailer plus a new character to be revealed. To sweeten the deal, LEGO will also be throwing exclusive audience give aways which is really exciting. Will this be an exclusive LEGO SDCC minifigure? Will find out soon enough. LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu

LEGO first introduced the concept as part of its promotions for The LEGO Batman Movie. The Batman Battle Pod (5004929) gave us our very first look at what later will be referred to as a series of LEGO promotional polybag pods Representing a particular theme, each promotional pod consists of a minifigure and several accessories all neatly organized within a sturdy and portable pod-like container, similar to a Pokeball. Imagine an allegiance between LEGO and Nintendo and expect that to be the start of an uber cool collection.
Following the success of the Batman Battle Pod, LEGO has revealed three additional promotional pods to watch out for. Check these out.
First off, we have the LEGO Ninjago Movie Kai Dojo Pod (5004916) polybag which consist of a Jay minifigure, and a handful of ninja tools and weapons as expected from the young Ninja. It comes in 35 pieces all wrapped in LEGO’s signature pod design.
Next we have LEGO Nexo Knights Armor Pod (5004914). In spite of the rumors that the heroes of Knighton might be seeing an early retirement soon, it seems that LEGO still has plans for this classic Castle and Space theme hybrid, with the inclusion of a promotional pod under the Nexo Knights theme. It consists of a knight, with a sword and scannable shield accessory. One of the cool things about this is that LEGO even added the classic Space logo in front of the blue pod. I can just imagine converting this pod into something like a pod carrier MOC for Benny – that will sure put a smile on his face.
Lastly, we have the LEGO Friends Ski Pod (5004920) that comes with an Emma minidoll, a ski helmet, a pair of ski poles, and a glass element neatly arranged in a winter-themed pod.
What I like about these pods is the versatility that it offers in housing your favorite minifig. Since it is based on a particular theme, you can easily place any minifigure of your choice and replace the accessories. It will also be nice if LEGO can come up with similar pods for let’s say, the CMF Series so KFOLs can carry around their most favorite minifigs wherever they go. Only time can tell if this idea will eventually catch up and be popular among LEGO fans.

As a side note, I hope you were able to sign up for July’s Monthly Mini Build which will start tomorrow July 11 until 12. This month’s Mini Build is a blue Octopus, with articulated tentacles and cute, googly eyes. Personally, I find this build better than the other MMBs offered during the previous months. I like how the tentacles can be posed, and the funny looking eyes that add character to the build.
This year’s LEGO Inside Tour has already been concluded, and though it has been weeks since the last batch of tour participants left the LEGO Group’s headquarters in Billund, their experience during the tour and the things that LEGO has unveiled in the process, is of great significance even for us LEGO fans residing in this corner of the globe.
Since its beginnings in 2005, the LEGO Inside Tour offers a glimpse into the inner workings of the LEGO Group. From their staff and designers’ day-to-day activities, to the daily operations of their production plant where the iconic bricks are made, tour participants get to see a glimpse of how LEGO is devoted and passionate in creating the coolest toy ever created. At the end of the two-day tour, LEGO caps off the experience with a very unique gift that each participant gets to bring home that perfectly sums up the LIT experience.
Each LEGO Inside Tour commemorative gift is unique in itself, with a new one released every year thoughtfully designed under close collaboration with Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, TLG’s current owner and grandson of LEGO founder Ole Kirk Kristiansen. Needless to say, this commemorative gift represents everything that is close to the heart of LEGO as a respected company, and symbolizes TLG’s significant milestones throughout the years.
If you recall, last 2016’s LEGO Inside Tour saw the reveal of the LEGO Truck Show (4000022) as its gift to participants of the tour. The set looks back at LEGO’s marketing efforts back in the late nineties where they opted to go mobile in promoting the LEGO brand among children and adults. More like LEGO’s version of a travelling road show, the LEGO Truck Show has proved to be popular during its heyday, with children excitingly waiting for the famed yellow Volvo truck to appear in their neighborhood. It represented a significant milestone in the life of TLG where the company can get to bring the creative fun of the LEGO brand to kids across the globe.
Each LEGO Inside Tour set, like 2016’s LEGO Truck Show, represents a very important landmark for LEGO. This year, LEGO has invested a great deal in envisioning another very important event in the life of the company. Under the helm of LEGO’s current CEO Bali Padda, the LEGO House – whose construction began in 2014 – is expected to open to the public on September 28, 2017.
Things are gradually taking shape within the LEGO House, with three large-scale, brick-built dinosaur models stealing the scene. However, awesome as these builds are, they are eventually humbled in comparison to the colossal, Tree of Creativity which stands in the middle of LEGO Square. The Tree of Creativity stands at over 15 meters tall and is made mainly of standard brown, black, and green bricks totalling to more than 6.3 million pieces. It represents everything that is important to LEGO, its history, vision and aspirations. In the midst of LEGO House stands one of the world’s most iconic LEGO models, at over 15m tall and packed full of details and surprises even the most avid LEGO enthusiast cannot fail to be impressed by the Tree of Creativity.
Originally the team had a few more ideas for alternative models, but in the end it was the tree that won because the idea was so strong. The base and roots of the tree represent the LEGO Group foundation in wooden toys and at the very top LEGO minifigure workers are building new branches using a giant crane. Just like LEGO House itself.
The unique LEGO model is built by hand from 6.316.611 standard LEGO bricks and took 24.350 hours to assemble.
2017 is a big year for LEGO, especially when the doors of the LEGO House open to public for the very first time come September 28. It is no wonder then that this year’s LEGO Inside Tour pays a fitting tribute to this magnificent tree, dedicating this year’s LIT commemorative set to this fitting metaphor. The LEGO House Tree of Creativity (4000024) set stands as a reminder of the strong and humble roots of LEGO, and the ever expanding horizon that its leaves and branches reach.

The Tree of Creativity is beautiful in itself, but it is also a metaphor for the LEGO Group. It’s stood the test of time and has grown over many years, which represents the continual growth of the company. The base and roots of the tree represent our foundation in wooden toys and at the very top you’ll see the tree is ‘unfinished’. Minifigure workers can be seen building new branches using the giant crane sitting at the very top, representing the on-going renewal and development of the LEGO Group.

It seems that LEGO is investing a considerable amount of effort in promoting its latest robotics offering, the LEGO Boost Creative Toolbox (17101). The set is now available for pre-order both at shop.LEGO.com and via Amazon, and will debut to the general public starting August 1. Additionally, another exclusive D2C set is slated to arrive in August with the highly anticipated LEGO Creator Expert London Bus (10258). The iconic red bus will be available exclusively at all LEGO Stores and at shop.LEGO.com starting August 1.

LEGO’s latest minifigure promotional was first spotted in LEGO Europe Summer Store Calendar last month, and as it seems, minifigure collectors in North America will also have the same opportunity of bringing this home. Referred to as the Iconic Cave set (5004936), this set comes with two rehashed collectible minifigures of a Caveman and Cavewoman, both of which were originally released under LEGO’s CMF Series 1 and Series 5 respectively. Join a LEGO Life Meeting at your nearest LEGO Store and get the chance to build the August mini-model. Registration has started already (for children 6 to 14 years old only) with a minimal fee of $10 per child.
August 30: VIP Cinderella’s Castle mini build event.
During this free event, you’ll get to build and take home a micro scale version of Cinderella’s iconic castle. Registration has already begun for participants age 6 to 14. You may visit your local LEGO Store and inquire with a Brick Specialist.
