Custom Mexico City Architecture Set Joins the LEGO Ideas Second 2018 Review Stage

A new product idea on the LEGO Ideas platform has received the coveted 10,000 supporters needed to be eligible for Review, and with its addition to the Second LEGO Ideas 2018 Review Stage, that batch of 10K-ers has become well and truly varied distinction. Much like the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 submission by AbFab1974, intended to join the established Speed Champions line, this product idea by Francisco Escobar (aka LegoFan_506) was designed in the convention of another LEGO product lineup. This custom Mexico City Architecture set now joins the rank of other projects that are eligible for the LEGO Ideas Second 2018 Review Stage.

LegoFan_506 replicated four (technically five) important landmarks in his custom Mexico City Architecture. These includes: the Angel of Independence statue on pillar, National Palace plus Constitution Plaza, Fine Arts Palace, and Latin-American Tower. Here’s what Francisco has to say about his product submission.

Each building I chose not only represents the most iconic structures at Mexico City but also different periods of time, culture and historic moments. They involve from the pre Conquest Period to modern times:

  • Constitution Plaza or “Zócalo” (since the time of the Aztecs). The People and Tradition. The heart and symbol of Mexico and its people. It´s Main Square is where countless persons join to celebrate events or festivities around Mexico flag.
  • National Palace (1522-1526). Union, Leadership. Headquarters of the federal executive in Mexico. It represents importance of the meeting of cultures, the blending of Spanish and Aztec.
  • Angel of Independence (1900-1910). Independence and love for their country. An iconic monument that represents the heroic struggle of Mexican people to decide and make their own path in the world.
  • Latin-American Tower (1948 – 1956). Leadership, hard work, and innovation. The once tallest building in Iberoamerica, it points out the achievements of Mexico hard work and role in the world.Palacio de Bellas Artes or “Fine Arts Palace” (1904-1934). The best expression of culture and arts in Mexico. It is a symbol of the incredibly rich Mexican culture and its arts contribution.

Francisco Escobar’s custom Mexico City Architecture set product idea is the last 10K passer to get into the LEGO Ideas Second 2018 Review Stage. It’s in strong competition from other 10K entries that include various space sets, to car models, and more.

New shop.LEGO.com Pages Launched for Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Slovakia and Slovenia

It can be said that a country has become a viable customer market for LEGO is when they have their own regional version of shop.LEGO.com on the official website. That ensures the delivery of your product of choice, plus adds the comfort of a webpage translated in your native language.

Before this week, shop.LEGO.com had dedicated pages for 24 countries, some even with their own translations (for example, shop.LEGO.com Luxembourg had English, French and Dutch versions). Recently however, LEGO has announced the opening of online shopping for five new European countries: two in the Baltic, two more in the Mediterranean, and one in Central Europe.

As of today, there are official shop.LEGO.com pages for Slovakia, Greece, Slovenia, Latvia and Estonia. These being in the preliminary stages, only English versions are available. But to celebrate the fact that the pages for five countries are up and running, LEGO is holding a contest for their new customers.

With the sites online, LEGO fans from those regions that make a purchase on their shop.LEGO.com, or at least send an email to WinaFlag@LEGO.com, from August 23 to September 30, will earn a chance to win a special-edition buildable flag of the new countries in the LEGO family. They’re rare alright, not even for sale.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Slovakians, Estonians, Slovenians, Latvians and Greeks who mean to join this promo via email, need only to include their name, postal address, phone number to contact, and email address. The LEGO buildable flags measure 72cm x 48cm, and are textured.

LEGO Ideas Challenges You To Create Your Most Imaginative Voltron Scene

In case you don’t know yet, LEGO’s widely popular fan contest site, LEGO Rebrick, is now merging with LEGO Ideas to be next fan-based and crowd sourcing online platform rolled into one. So in case you have previously submitted entries on LEGO Rebrick, it will be wise to back them up since the site will no longer be accessible beginning September 1. With that out of the way, we now have our very first open contest inspired by the new LEGO Ideas Voltron (21311) set, and now hosted on the new LEGO Ideas site: the LEGO Ideas – Form Your Imaginative Voltron Scene.

Imaginative Voltron Scene

Have you ever dreamed yourself into the fascinating universe of Voltron? We most certainly have! There are so many epic scenes that stimulate our imaginations of life beyond Earth. Here’s your chance to bring it all to life in LEGO bricks, as the LEGO Ideas team is looking for you to show us your most imaginative interpretation of one of the locations in which your favourite Voltron lion was found after all the lions were sent away into hiding for 10,000 years by King Alfor.

This contest challenges builders ages 13 and above to come up with their most imaginative Voltron scene for one of the five iconic lions that forms the mighty Voltron. The idea is to design a specific location or scene, bearing in mind the unique characteristics of each of the lion and the elements in which they are associated with – the Black Lion with the element of metal, Red Lion being found in the forest and connected with the element of fire, the Green Lion which is hidden in the forest and associated with all forms of life, the Blue Lion lying deep underwater and connected with the element of water, and the Yellow Lion hidden under rock formations and associated with the element of earth. Like with LEGO Rebrick, entries can either images made from actual LEGO sets (following the rules set forth by the contest organizers), or digitally made via LEGO Digital Designer.

Submission of entries for the most imaginative Voltron scene has already begun and will end on September 24. There will be one Grand Prize Winner and Two-Runner Ups which will be announced on October 30. The Grand Prize winner will receive:

  • One LEGO Ideas Voltron Defender of the Universe (21311) set signed by the LEGO Designer
  • A $500 USD shopping spree on LEGO.com
  • A stash of elite Voltron merchandise which includes a Voltron Backpack and a Voltron Team Force Membership Kit

LEGO Ideas Project Steamboat Willie Achieves 10K Votes

After 2 years of gathering fan support and approval, we now have our next candidate to qualify for this year’s LEGO Ideas Review Stage. We followed Steamboat Willie’s development since 2016 and it caught our eye because of the Disney legacy that it alludes to. This LEGO Ideas project by szabomate90 pays tribute to early attempts of Walt Disney to bring cartoon animation to the masses, and now the LEGO Ideas Project Steamboat Willie has garnered the necessary 10K fan support in order to qualify for the 2018 LEGO Ideas Review Stage.

LEGO Ideas Project Steamboat Willie

Coming in at 156 LEGO pieces, the set features the iconic Steamboat Willie in its classic monochromatic color scheme, with a similarly colored LEGO Mickey Mouse minifigure. Though I’m glad that this set has made it this far especially after two long years of waiting, I’m quite skeptical if this project will gain the approval of the LEGO Ideas Review Team considering that policy changes in the LEGO fan platform requires that all submitted projects must not be a part of any existing LEGO themes. Since LEGO already has an active of Disney-inspired sets, and even has an existing LEGO Mickey Mouse collectible minifigure, I’m not really sure if Steamboat Willie will make it to final cut.

LEGO Ideas Project Steamboat Willie

LEGO Ideas Project Steamboat Willie

Here’s szabomate90 with more info on his LEGO Ideas Project Steamboat Willie, followed by a feature video about this entry.

Steamboat Willie is the first fully synchronized sound cartoon directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks.

It was the debute of Mickey Mouse in a cartoon the first to be distributed and the third to be produced.

So as an animator and a Lego fan I’d like to pay my respect to that marvelous production, which since was created then inspired a lot of talented artists.

Because Disney Minifigures arrived, I have the luck to create a Mickey Mouse related set with him as well. In addition I repaint the figure to match the original 1928’s appearance.

The model designed to be tiny, easy to build and playable. You can put Mickey Mouse inside the boat also you can play with the cranes.

The LEGO Ideas Project Steamboat Willie is the fourth LEGO Ideas Project that qualifies for the next LEGO Ideas Review Stage together with the International Space Station, SpaceX – The Ultimate Collection, and SpaceX Falcon Heavy.

LEGO Launches The Awesome Building Buddies Competition

Here’s your chance to make the LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part more awesome. LEGO has just launched a building competition wherein selected winners will have the chance to have their builds featured during the closing credits of the LEGO movie sequel. The Awesome Building Buddies Competition allows pairs of builders (think of Tyler and Sean for example) to come up with their most favorite builds and to combine them to make something super.

To join, contestants need to download, print out and sign the contest entry submission form which you can download on the contest’s web site. From the looks of it, there seems to be no age limit so adults can join in as well. It should also be noted that as per official contest rules, if you will opt to include minifigures in your entries, then you must only use characters that are not part of any third-party licenses. Thus, if you’re going to include the cast of the LEGO Movie, you are allowed to add them except Batman (which is quite odd, because he is part of both the first and second films). You can also use characters from the LEGO City, Ninjago, Friends, Creator, Classic, Nexo Knights, or Elves themes. Entries that include minifigure characters from Disney, Marvel, DC, Jurassic World, Star Wars and other similar third-party licenses will not be accepted.

The deadline for submission of entries is on July 31, 2018 at 23:59 CET so be sure to have your bricks and building buddy ready before then. Here’s a quick rundown of how to enter the contest.

LEGOLAND Windsor Offers Chance for Free Entry to Dads on Father’s Day

In the UK’s LEGOLAND theme park at Windsor, the excitement has finally died down following the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the nearby namesake castle. LEGOLAND Windsor’s brick tribute will be remaining on display for some time yet, but there are other occasions to prepare for.

Case in point, June 17 is the third Sunday of the month, aka Father’s Day. And LEGOLAND Windsor has a special treat for dads visiting the park on that special day. What could be more awesome and heartwarming, perhaps, than to have family heads enter LEGOLAND that day for free?

You read it right. LEGOLAND Windsor Senior PR Manager Lauren Moss announced that they will be giving away free, precious tickets to 250 lucky dads. All they have to do is go to the park on June 17 between 8:45-10:00AM and gather at the Father’s Day Trivia Turnstile, installed by LEGOLAND for the day.

Once there, these coolest, brick-building dads will have to correctly answer trivia questions posed by LEGOLAND staff to win one of the 250 tickets, saving their cash only for their family members. “We know dads are used to being asked questions by their little ones,” noted Moss on the mechanics. “So we know they’ll be great at tackling our trivia question about our world famous Miniland and its new attractions.”

Trivia Questions at the Father’s Day Trivia Turnstile usually involve facts and statistics about the park, such as queries about the mini buildings on the Miniland themed area, where the recent Royal Birth and Royal Wedding displays still stand. Local Dads will need to get to know LEGOLAND better to get a chance for free entry on Father’s Day. One thing’s for sure, it’ll be fun for one and all.

Last Rundown on 18-Karat White Gold R2-D2 Sweepstakes Giveaway, and Other LEGO Promos for May the 4th

May the 4th be with you now, as the Star Wars fandom commence their celebrations this Friday, which has fallen on the pun-iest day of this month of the year. The various Star Wars-connected promotions on LEGO for May 4 would’ve also gone into full swing by now as well.

Perhaps one of the most rewarding promo items one can get from LEGO on May the 4th is this R2-D2 minifigure made out of 18-karat white gold. There’s only one of these available, and only those with a LEGO Black VIP membership card have been automatically entered for the raffle.

This would’ve already been made known to Black VIP cardholders via email. Said message includes an assurance that the recipient need not do anything more to join the raffle for the 18-karat R2-D2 (they’re already entered). Said minifigure also comes with a certificate of authenticity for the white gold R2-D2.

Aside from this “grand prize” of sorts, there are other great giveaways that one can get from LEGO for May 4. Next in prominence is the LEGO Star Wars UCS Y-Wing (75181) technical blueprints (numbered 5005624), available with a minimum $35 LEGO purchase (or any amount for Black VIP cardholders).

Note also that LEGO VIP members get double the VIP points this Star Wars Day, and they can “Make & Take” Porg figures or buy the UCS Millennium Falcon (75212) at LEGO Stores. Here’s hoping you enjoy the festivities, for this is the day you’ve been waiting for; move along.

LEGO Ideas Invites You To Create the Next FIRST LEGO League World Festival Trophy

Earlier this year, LEGO Ideas launched two particular contests where LEGO fans can submit their original creations with the hope of being selected as the platform’s  official logo, and the next gift-with-purchase set following a classic space theme. Both competitions were warmly welcomed by the LEGO community, with the latter hitting a bit of a snag regarding the originality of its submitted project.

This time around, it looks like the LEGO Ideas Team intends to continually tap the vast resources and ideas of the LEGO fan community, particularly with its next competition that is expected to gather a following. The LEGO Ideas Design the Next FIRST LEGO League World Festival Trophy is currently on its Submission Phase throughout this month of May. The winning build which will be selected during the Judging Phase from May 31 to June 5 will be used as a basis for the trophy to be awarded to FLL winners. In a nutshell, this is how to join the contest:

Build your coolest, most display worthy LEGO trophy using LEGO pieces (no DUPLO elements). Submissions may be in either physical bricks or by using a digital building tool such as LEGO Digital Designer.

Take up to five photos of your creation and submit them to the contest. Make sure to show off your model from all angles and any particular features or functions of your trophy.

Add a title and short description.

Upload your entry to the contest using the blue Submit Your Entry button found on the contest’s web page.

Check out the image below to have an idea on what are the prescribed specifications for entries.
