Here’s What To Expect from Some of The Newer LEGO Harry Potter Sets

During LEGO’s Fan Media Days in Billund last month, Michael Friedrichs of Promobricks had the opportunity of having an interview with LEGO Senior Designer Mark John Stafford to discuss more about the upcoming LEGO Wizarding World Harry Potter sets. The seasoned designer was kind enough to stay for a half-hour talk with Michael, and revealed some interesting facts about two of the theme’s much-awaited sets: the Hogwarts Great Hall (75954) and the Hogwarts Express (75955).

The Hogwarts Great Hall (75954) is the largest LEGO Harry Potter set that belong to the Wizarding World subtheme, coming in at 878 pieces. Other than the new elements that it introduced such as the new magic wands and redesigned minifigures, the set also comes with a special set of stickers, according to Mark. He revealed that set 75954 will come with two sets of stickers that allow builders to customize the brick-built hall using the house crest of their own choice. It’s a pretty neat detail thrown in by LEGO which expands the play features of the set.

The LEGO Hogwarts Great Hall (75954) come in at 878 pieces, and will retail for $99.99.

The discussions revolving around the Hogwarts Express (75955) centers on a more obvious feature of the set (or the lack of it) – of it being basically a train set, but less the train tracks. According to Mark, the decision not to include train tracks on this set is more of a practical one: to make the set budget friendly for LEGO and Harry Potter fans. The design team also had customization in mind as far as the Hogwarts Express is concerned, designing the set with enough space to install an optional engine and a battery box. Again, this is a thoughtful move from LEGO that allows a wider range of creative play as far as fans of LEGO train sets are concerned. Any existing tracks pieces and power functions elements can easily be attached to this LEGO version of the Hogwarts Express.

The LEGO Hogwarts Express (75955) has 801 pieces and will sell for $79.99 .

Over all, it’s nice to hear these considerations for these upcoming sets, something that LEGO fans of the franchise will surely look forward to. The LEGO Wizarding World and Harry Potter sets are expected to be released in August of this of this year.

LEGO Unveils Three Additional LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz

Just a few minutes ago, LEGO announced three additional LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz via its official Facebook page, following the reveal of the LEGO Star Wars Cloud Rider Swoop Bikes (75215). Other than the recently announced LEGO BrickHeadz Darth Vader (41619) and Stormtrooper (41620), the LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz line expands to include three more familiar characters:

Luke and Yoda (41627); 215 pieces, $14.99

Princess Leia (41628); 124 pieces, $9.99

41628

Boba Fett (41629); 161 pieces, $9.99

If you can recall, this is not the first time that Boba Fett was rendered in BrickHeadz form. The LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz Boba Fett and Han Solo in Carbonite (41498) was last year’s exclusive NYCC set, and this time, the newer BrickHeadz version of the iconic Star Wars bounty hunter seems to have more printed parts as compared from its predecessor.

Though LEGO hasn’t announced a release date yet, it is likely that these little collectibles will be available in October after the release of the August wave of BrickHeadz.

Luxembourg-based retailer Electronic-Shop, have listed the LEGO Star Wars Cloud Rider Swoop Bikes (75215) based on the subtheme Solo: A Star Wars Story. It may not be the best quality images that we have about this set, but it is certainly interesting to see what it has to offer. This particular set has been rumored quite heavily among LEGO fan circles considering the speculated presence of Enfys Nest and Weazel, which was a closely guarded secret back then before Solo landed in cinemas last month.

The LEGO Star Wars Cloud Rider Swoop Bikes (75215) comes in at 355 pieces and is expected to retail for $30 USD. Here’s a rough Google Translation of its product description, followed by several images courtesy of Electronic-Shop.

Is LEGO Teasing On A Possible Jurassic Park Visitor Center Set?

So, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is due to premiere next week (stateside, as some other territories already have it showing). At the same time, LEGO’s various tie-ins to the movie are gradually easing their way into store shelves, alongside sets associated with the movie’s (and the franchise’s) progenitor: Jurassic Park.

It just so happens that this year is the 25th anniversary of that pioneering film directed by Steven Spielberg, explaining the new Jurassic World-inspired LEGO sets coming out. More are expected, such as this set teased by LEGO that calls to mind the climactic scene from the ending stretch of the first film.

If you need a refresher, this is when the surviving people on Jurassic Park are stuck in the Visitors Center surrounded by the raptors, only for the T-Rex to arrive, killing the hunters and roaring gloriously while a banner falls in front of it. This greetings from LEGO spells it out quite well.

Rumors lave long abound that there will eventually be a Jurassic Park Visitors Center set put out by LEGO. And while we can speculate about the possibility of seeing this set happen, we don’t know yet if it’s only an interior action set-piece or a whole Visitor Center building teased.

While we wait for this previewed set, and for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s US premiere, one LEGO Jurassic Park set for its 25th Anniversary has already been officially released, and it’s the one with the raptors in pursuit. The LEGO Jurassic Park Velociraptor Chase (75932) is out now for fandom collectors.

Thanks to The Brick Fan for the heads up.

WATCH: LEGO DC Super Villains Gameplay on YouTube’s “Live at E3”

Those who watched Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight might recall the line uttered by Harvey Dent (before he became Two-Face) that went: “You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” Fans of WB-Interactive and Traveller’s Tales’ LEGO videogames might say “You either quit playing the LEGO games at DC Super-Heroes, or stay long enough to see yourself controlling the Villains as the protagonists.”

That’s been the effect of the upcoming LEGO DC Super Villains, which sees players in command of DC Comics’ bad-guy stable against a parallel-universe counterpart of the Justice League while the heroes are missing in action.

We already know a few things about the title, like how the player’s focus character is a customized avatar interacting with the DC Villains, and that it’s shipping with an exclusive Lex Luthor minifigure. But how does the gameplay feel? We’ll find out soon enough.

As you know, E3 2018 has finally kicked off, and the time is perfect for LEGO DC Super Villains to wow fans. In fact, YouTube just went live with its coverage of this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo aptly dubbed as “Live at E3”, and we now have our first look at WB Games’ latest LEGO video game offering. Check this segment dedicated to LEGO DC Super Villains together with an interview with Geoff Keighley courtesy of YouTuber Jayshockblast.

As we can pick up from the interview, this latest LEGO and DC-inspired video title is focused on developing your own unique antihero, teamed up with DC’s notorious villains. The game’s plot twists are also something to look forward to, considering the presence of the Justice Syndicate in their little pocket universe.

The LEGO DC Super Villains is now available for pre-order, across all major gaming platforms, with its Deluxe Edition coming with a free and exclusive Lex Luthor minifigure.

LEGO And IKEA Collaborates For More Sustainable Manufacturing Materials by 2030

Denmark’s LEGO and Sweden-Netherlands’ IKEA caught quite a number of people by surprise when they announced a collaboration last week. What exactly they were working on was unspecified, other than that it was to foster “more creative play in a home environment”, according to their statement.

Now, as the week turned, it appears IKEA has something new to add to the previous announcement. It seems the world’s most recognized brand when it comes to ready-to-assemble furniture will be following its new partner’s commitment for “environmental sustainability”.

LEGO has pledged to start making bricks and elements made of sustainable materials in 2018. It began with using plant-plastic derivatives to fashion their green elements like plant and shrub pieces, with the ultimate goal of having all LEGO bricks be purely sustainable by the year 2030. IKEA has now matched that goal with their own promise to start introducing sustainable materials for their furniture products, by the same deadline too.

720

In fact, IKEA has already long begun its environmental sustainability transition years ago, and as of now about 70% of their entire furniture and related product range has renewable or recyclable parts. The 2030 mark is for IKEA’s 100% transition.

It’s interesting to note that IKEA made no mention of LEGO in its new statement of sustainability compliance, but one can’t help that there was some synergy between the two companies. For that we wish IKEA and LEGO the best in their environmentally sound initiatives, and will wait for more news on what exactly they’re up to for the future.

LEGO Ideas Project Spotlight: The Disneyland Map by Brickproject_7540

Disney and LEGO have been partners is the development of tie-in brick and minifigure merchandise for all ages, from this year’s Disney Princess sets to more recent BrickHeadz, plus the major subsidiary franchises of Marvel and Star Wars. Even their theme park landmarks get love in the form of some impressive scale model sets.

One member of LEGO Ideas decided to take LEGO’s official LEGO models for Disney theme park buildings to their logical conclusion by, well, building a scale model that incorporates a number of the most memorable structures in the Disney resorts from both Coasts. Builder Brickproject_7540 calls it the “Disneyland Map”.

As seen on the layout, this LEGO Ideas project is a rough theme park layout that’s a partial mishmash of landmarks from Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, plus one from Disney’s Hollywood Studios from Walt Disney World. The result, interpreted in about 2,200 bricks, is both familiar and new.

5490164 Disneyland Render Official 1 Lego Ideas Top View Juiry1Nlo2GjcA thumbnail full

The component areas of this LEGO Disneyland Ideas entry are Disneyland Park’s Main Street USA, the Fantasyland with Sleeping Beauty’s castle to the back, paths to the left and right leading to Tomorrowland’s Space Mountain and Frontierland’s Big Thunder Mountain respectively, and then the extra locations of the Mickey Wheel from nearby DCA and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror from WDW’s Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Brickproject_7540 acknowledges the fantasy nature of this theme park layout; he even gave it the misspelled name of Dinseyland since it’s not yet sanctioned by the House of Mouse. Still, if the set does manage to get 10K support, and be lucky enough to pass review afterwards, then maybe Disney might deign to green-light this Ideas build enough to grant it the brand name.

We’ll have to see if it achieves that goal; though if you’re on LEGO Ideas and like the set, then visit Brickproject_7540’s entry page for the project. He even provided a 360-degree virtual tour of the set for any visitors’ enjoyment. It could give the Space_X Collection entry a good run.

The LEGO US Catalog (June-December 2018) Teases on a New Minifigure Series

Not only does the recently released online LEGO US Catalog 2H 2018 teased on two upcoming LEGO BrickHeadz sets, but it seems that we’ll be seeing the next Collectible Minifigure Series sooner than expected. We’re still swooning with delight on LEGO’s party-themed, commemorative 40th Anniversary CMF Series 18 (71021) minifigs, and it looks like we’re about to get another wave roughly two months from now.

scaled EN MEA 38

The announcement came in almost as a side note on that particular page in the LEGO US Catalog, and on the rest of its foreign counterparts. The said ‘surprise’ has been rumored to be, within LEGO community and fan forums, to be the LEGO Harry Potter Minifigure Series (71022), which also coincides with the release of the rest of the Wizarding World sets.

If you recall way back in 2002, LEGO released four series of collectible Harry Potter minifigure that comes free with qualifying purchases of LEGO Harry Potter sets at that time. The LEGO Harry Potter Minifigure Collection Gallery featured 17 minifigures which you can see below (images courtesy of Brickset):

With LEGO’s extensive collection of existing LEGO Harry Potter figures, its kind of hard to predict which Harry Potter character will make it to the cut, if indeed the next CMF Series to arrive in August is all about the Wizarding World. I guess we just have to wait until then.

What do you think is this next LEGO CMF series all about? Do you think it is a Harry Potter CMF Series? If so, who do you think will make it to the list? Comment down below.
