Those who grew up with trading cards and collecting posters from the 80’s knew very well this unassuming transforming mech. If you said ‘Soundwave’, then your knowledge of classic transformers is impeccable. This very excellent rendition from master mech builder Joe Perez (aka MortalSwordsman) gives Megatron’s right hand man a LEGO build worthy of this iconic Decepticon.

This is how Soundwave looks like in his classic 80s Transformers look. The mech at the right is Autobot Blaster – a boombox changing cassette deck similar to Soundwave. As the Decepticon’s Communications Officer, Soundwave is capable of detecting and jamming radio transmissions which makes him very useful for Decepticon leader Megatron.

Since we featured Moko’s transforming LEGO brick last month, this is perhaps the most excellent, and realistic classic Transformer MOC that we have ever seen. Joe even went as far as building three of Soundwave’s most favored minions: Laserbeak, Ravage, and Frenzy.

These ‘microfighters’ can also easily transform to their cassette tape versions as seen in the classic Transformers TV series. They are usually used for intelligence gathering and reconnaissance missions and are very good at it. Fully transformable without the need to remove any pieces, Laserbeak, Ravage, and Frenzy all fit nicely into Soundwave’s chest and are ready to spring into action at the behest of their master.

With such abilities and firepower at his disposal, no wonder Megatron gives much premium to his trusted Communications Officer. Be sure to check the rest of Joe Perez’ rendition of Soundwave over at his Flickr address. Can you think of any other great transforming mech rendered in LEGO form? We had our first glimpse of what LEGO has in store for us this summer regarding their newest Star Wars themed set during last February’s New York Toy Fair. Now some of these sets have been finally listed by Amazon UK for pre-order which is due for release on June 1. These are great selections coming from the different parts of the Star Wars verse particularly from Rebels, Episode VII: The Force Awakens, and the upcoming Disney XD animated series, LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. There have been no details posted yet on Amazon UK other than the official box art and the assembled set, with titles posted as ‘Star Wars TM Confidential_Retail’ and a product description that seems to be out of step. Missing from Amazon UK’s listing is the LEGO Star Wars Captain Rex’s AT-TE 75157 and the LEGO Star Wars Eclipse Fighter 75145

These first two sets are from LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures featuring Naare’s starship and the Freemaker’s scavenger ship respectively.

Straight from Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens comes the scenes from the desert planet of Jakku, and the dramatic scene of Poe Dameron’s attempted escape aboard the cool and sleek blue Resistance X-Wing Fighter against advancing Flametroopers.

Last February, we did an extensive coverage of LEGO’s offerings which they unveiled during the New York Toy Fair this year. We saw a pretty good line-up of great sets back then coming from themes such as Star Wars, Elves, City, Friends, Disney Princess, Nexo Knights, Ninjago and a lot more.  One of the sets that we covered was the LEGO Creator sets due to be released this summer.

Just recently, the Brick Fan shared these official photos released by Just2Good a few moments ago showing both the official box art and assembled sets. With four sets under the Creator line-up, these are all excellent builds by themselves.

Two weeks ago, we reported on the set numbers, piece count and pricing of LEGO’s upcoming Rogue One Sets to be released tentatively around September, or three months before the film debuts in US theaters on December 16. Following several rave reviews and analysis of Rogue One’s official trailer after it was released last Thursday, we had our first hand look at the characters, vehicles, and scenes that can have the potential of being included as part of the 5 LEGO Rogue One Sets, and 3 buildable figures. Brickset did an excellent job in coming up with a list of suggested sets that may appear in LEGO Rogue One based on the movie’s official teaser trailer.

Now gives us another reveal to look forward to, this time the official product packaging that will follow for its lines of Rogue One toys, collectibles, and other memorabilia. Take a look at its visually powerful packaging.

The packaging follows a predominantly black and blue color scheme and prominently displays the logo of the Empire. It also shows the newest trooper to be added in the Star Wars canon: a never-before-seen black Death Trooper (aka Shadow Trooper) known to be an elite special forces team within the Imperial Army that are usually summoned when things go out of hand. The war machine that is also featured on the packaging is the iconic Imperial land behemoth, the All Terrain Armored Transport or the mighty AT-AT. Similar to other Star Wars set scheduled to be released this year and from those of 2015, the packaging will also have Disney’s logo printed on the lower right corner of the box.

We’ll keep you posted for more updates here at the Brick Show, and in case you want to see it again, here’s the first official teaser of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

This Exclusive, Limited Edition Commander Cody Maxi Figure May Become The Most Expensive Lego Set Ever.

s-l1600 (10)

I just happen to stumble upon this post by Minifig Price Guide, and frankly speaking, this maxi figure of Commander Cody did not initially appeal to me and I was honestly planning to dismiss it – not until I saw the story behind this one.

Back in 2008, Toys R Us teamed up with LEGO in a raffle to celebrate to launch of the animated TV series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The prize: an exclusive maxi-figure rendition of Clone Commander Cody as he is seen in his minifigure version in LEGO Star Wars Republic Attack Gunship 7676.

7676_final Cody-1

LEGO came up with only 32 of these ultra rare maxi-figures, 12 of which landed in TRU stores in UK. Each Commander Cody maxi-fig comes marked with a label underneath its right foot showing its unique model number. Several sites like From Bricks to Bothans and Jedi News also mentioned this collectible in 2008.

An entry form is used for the raffle which looks like the one below. Take note that the fine print on the back (i.e. Terms and Conditions) specifically mentioned that photocopied entry forms are not allowed, which adds weight to the value of this collectible. There was no online version of this form as well.

Okay, for sure this is one unique LEGO set that may be ranked among the rest of highly valuable and pricey LEGOs around. I never understood the extent of its value until I saw the eBay page where it is being auctioned. Currently as of this writing, this Limited Edition LEGO Commander Cody is at its highest bid of $11,800, with 4 days left before bidding closes. I have to double-check on what could be the most expensive piece of LEGO set that was auctioned or bought. The only condition is that it must be a complete LEGO set and not just any particular piece or a minifigure. Currently, my research led me to the LEGO Ultimate Collector’s Millennium Falcon 10179 that is currently valued at $4,4307.

The seller posted the following info about the Commander Cody maxi-figure.

This is one of the rarest Star Wars LEGO pieces you will ever see. This is Commander Cody No. 15 of 32 made in the world. In Europe, only 12 were released and this was made exclusively for Toys R Us competition in 2008. It comes with its own identity number and authenticity certificate and a blank original entry form for the completion. You won’t see another one like it, it will be the centerpiece of your Star Wars LEGO collection. Feel free to ask any questions and I am open to sensible offers , International bidders postage will be tracked and cost will depend on where it being sent. After the winning bid , I will let you know what it will cost , I’m not into making money on postage so what it cost will be exactly what you pay. Happy bidding!

Here’s LEGO/TRU’s official description:

Commander Cody serves as Obi-Wan’s second-in-command of the 212th Attack Battalion and places duty above all else.

To celebrate the launch of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Toys R Us has teamed up with LEGO to give 12 lucky winners the chance to own one of these exclusive limited edition Commander Cody figures.

There are only 32 of these figures in the world! Each figure is 30 cm high by 18 cm wide, built out of LEGO bricks and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Each has its own unique number, which can be found on a label on one of Commander Cody’s feet.

The seller claims that this LEGO Commander Cody No. 15 comes with its Certificate of Authenticity as it is given by TRU.

Here are more pictures of Commander Cody’s LEGO iteration.

s-l1600 (1) s-l1600 (5) s-l1600 (3) s-l1600 (2) s-l1600

We’ll watch the developments on this exclusive maxi-figure over the next few days. If the eBay auction happens to be successful, then we’ll see if this ultra rare Commander Cody will earn a spot on the world’s priciest and most valued LEGO collectible ever.

So stay tuned here at the Brick Show for more updates.

[UPDATE] LEGO Uniqlo Shirts Now Available In The US – Free Shipping For Purchases of $99 and Up.

Having a LEGO fashion sense has never been this easy and affordable. A couple of days ago, we were impressed by a line up of pretty cool LEGO-themed shirts brought about by the recent partnership between LEGO Group and Japanese apparel brand Uniqlo. With an expanded selection of official LEGO shirts now hitting US shores (it seemed to have made its debut in Asia, particularly in Hong Kong and the Philippines), Uniqlo sweetens the deal by offering a FREE SHIPPING for all online orders of $99 and above.

If you head over Uniqlo’s US site right now, you may still be able to grab the chance of owning one of these brick-rendered shirts starting at $14.90. Unfortunately, as of this writing, some designs and sizes are probably out of stock already since what are currently available right now are male adult sizes. Nevertheless, the design on them looks great as it goes perfectly well with any LEGO fashionista.

It will be a welcomed treat if Uniqlo stores in the US will also give away a polybag set just like this one when you do an in-store purchase, similar to what they offered in Hongkong and the Philippines.
