Penultimate LEGO Star Wars 2017 Advent Calendar (75184) Collectibles Close-Up

Three updates covering twelve days have passed, and so too the premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Now we will have our look-see at the next few items to pop out of the LEGO Star Wars 2017 Advent Calendar (75184). This is our fourth segment of reveals, but so as to really hurry things along, this update puts the spotlight on six days, 13 to 18.

Day 13: First Order Snowspeeder – alternatively called the Light Infantry Utility Vehicle. You’d be forgiven for not recognizing it if you’d only seen the films on cinemas; it was on a deleted scene from The Force Awakens. Watch the digital versions or play Star Wars Battlefront II to see it in action. The FO Snowspeeder also has a LEGO model (75216). This micro-version can fit a minifigure, but just barely.

Day 14: First Order Snow-trooper – Briefly seen in The Force Awakens stationed at the First Order “homeworld” of Starkiller Base. Fairly basic Stormtrooper minifig setup (helm, Clone trooper face); he has no weapons either because the Snowspeeder (day before) is already armed.

Day 15: First Order Snow-blower – Just in case you forget that it’s Christmas, here’s a First Order-issue snow-blower for Snow-troopers to use in clearing paths throughout the snowy terrain of Starkiller Base. Give it to the Day 14 trooper if he’s not on the snow-speeder.

Day 16: Director Krennic’s T-3c Imperial Shuttle – from the Sequel Trilogy we go back in time to Rogue One. The Imperial “upside-down Y” shuttles were sleek enough, but Director Krennic’s black number (with folding wing action) is really intimidating. No room for minifigs.

Day 17: Imperial Officer – Apparently Officer minifigures from the Galactic Empire era (Episodes IV-VI) are not that common, so this is a welcome addition to minifig collectors. He even has a blaster.

Day 18: Y-Wing Bomber – We tend to recall the Y-Wings as the Rebel star-fighters that tried (and failed) to bomb the heck of the original Death Star in the first Star Wars film, A New Hope. Unsuccessful they may have been, but nobody can knock the aerospace design of the Y-Wing. It’s even got a LEGO set of its own, numbered 75172.

With these, we have only one update left to complete the 24 Days of Advent as interpreted by the LEGO Star Wars 2017 Advent Calendar (75184). Please bear with us for one last update on Christmas Eve itself; until then.

“A Christmas Story” House Set is Latest LEGO Ideas Submission to Get 10,000 Support for 3rd 2017 Review Stage.

When an avid and dedicated LEGO builder wants to make his custom design to become an official LEGO set, he has LEGO Ideas as a platform to make his case for his work. Once submitted, a design needs to garner 10,000 supporters on the Ideas website before The LEGO Company will consider it for final approval.

That first part about getting 10,000 supporters can be the longest phase of a fan submission on the path to being officially part of LEGO’s countless products. Many designs are willing but only a few could get past that barrier in time for the Third Review Stage by LEGO for the soon-to-end year of 2017.

Already six submissions have “counted to 10,000” soon enough to be part of that review stage, and the latest to join that grouping is a design by LEGO Ideas member twrt0es. It’s a yellow two-story house based on the quirky 1983 comedy film A Christmas Story, starring Melinda Dillon, Darren McGavin and Peter Billingsley from MGM.

The Christmas Story House is, much in the vein of numerous LEGO house sets, a modular construction wherein the roof and the second story can be removed to reveal play areas where the minifigures and props can be arranged for action.

Now that it has gotten the necessary amount of support, twrt0es’ LEGO Christmas Story house model is now in the hands of a review team from The LEGO Group. They will be selecting a worthy new set for Ideas from that and these other entries: Pop-Up Book by JKBrickworks, Boat House Diner, The Lighthouse and The Dive Shop, all by RobenAnne, Jaguar E-Type Roadster by Ozzyeatingbats, and RuPaul’s Brick Race by SeeMarkGeek.

2018 LEGO Ninjago Pods Revealed.

It seems that we’re getting our first wave of 2018 LEGO minifigure pods quite early. Just recently, LEGO has uploaded via its servers, several official images of 2018’s LEGO Ninjago Masters Spinjitzu Sons of Garmadon Jay (853758) and Cole (853759) Dojo Pods. If you recall, we have our first LEGO Ninjago Dojo Pod with a Kai minifigure (5004916) last July, and it seems that LEGO is adding more characters to these collectible line of minifigs.

As you can see from the official images below, these pods come in blister type packaging, with each pod featuring a prominent lenticular sticker that shows the character’s ninja mask and designated element. The inside of the pods also features a kendo helmet, training accessories and signature weapons. It should be noted that though Jay and Cole may have the same minifigure torso and legs, the prints on them are new to these series. Frankly, I hope that their actual minifigs are different from one another in terms of color scheme. That will be better and adds more variety to them.

Given that we already have their official images uploaded, we can expect these pods to appear at shop.LEGO.com and in LEGO Brand Stores anytime soon, with a retail price of $8.99 each.

Love Is In The Air With These Latest LEGO Seasonal (40187) and Wedding Souvenir (40197) Sets.

We’re not past Christmas yet, but it seems that LEGO is already setting up the mood for all love-struck AFOLs out there. LEGO has recently uploaded official images of the new seasonal and souvenir sets via its servers, and we now have our first look at the LEGO Valentine’s Day Seasonal Flowers (40187), and the Wedding Favor (40197) sets.

At 100 pieces, the Valentine’s Day Flowers (40187) is expected to retail for $10 and may also come for free when you purchase any LEGO sets from February 7 to 14, 2018 together with the LEGO Wall Calendar’s Voucher #2. Though I like the idea of brick-built flowers as a gift for your special someone, I do hope that LEGO will continue the release of its seasonal vignettes similar to this year. I would love to see a redesign of the Romantic Valentine Picnic (40236) for that matter.

The LEGO Wedding Favor (40197) set comes in at 132 pieces, and is by far the best designed iteration of this souvenir. LEGO released two wedding giveaways prior to set 40197, with the first released in 2011 with the Minifigure Wedding Favor Set (853340) and again just last year with a rehash of the Minifigure Wedding set (40165). The latest version is a welcomed one since it incorporates more details and accessories for the minifigures. It is expected to retail for $10 as well.

First Look at the LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi First Order AT-ST (75201).

Now that Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi has finally landed in theaters across the US, it seems that LEGO has also pulled the veil off from one of its remaining LEGO Star Wars TLJ sets. If you recall, all the sets belonging to this subtheme has been finally revealed, with some of them available starting January 1 – save for one. We still yet to see the LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi First Order AT-ST (75201) up until now. But thanks to LEGO Star Wars fan LegosVidal2016, we now have our first look at the First Order AT-ST coming in at 370 pieces. Vidal says that the LEGO Star Wars First Order AT-ST has been on sale at a particular Toys R Us store.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

This particular set is based on the scene where Finn and Rose make their daring escape aboard the First Order Star Destroyer, after they have infiltrated it to hack the ship’s light speed tracking capabilities. This particular AT-ST is partially damaged and when Finn and Rose is caught up in a bind against Captain Phasma and her troops, BB-8 comes to the rescue! It’s quite hilarious to see BB-8 as he tries to operate the damaged AT-ST, but nevertheless he gets the job done. There is also a lift where Rose is positioned as seen in the film, and from the looks of the set’s box art, it seems that this brick-built lift can also move up and down as well. The LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi First Order AT-ST (75201) includes the minifigures of Captain Phasma, Finn and Rose in their First Order officer uniforms, and of course, BB-8. Here’s a closer look at the set’s box art, and given the number pieces, we can assume that this set may retail at around $40.

2018 LEGO DC Superheroes Sets Now Available for Pre-Order – More Official Images Revealed.

We saw them revealed at this year’s San Diego Comic Con earlier in July, and this time, we now have more official images of the first wave of 2018 LEGO DC Superheroes sets scheduled to be available to all on January 1. News has it that these sets are now available at Toys R Us, and if you wish to rake up those VIP points LEGO Shop@Home has already listed the following sets for pre-order, featuring three new sets from DC comics lore.

January 1 also marks the release of more than 125 LEGO sets slated to be available both online and in-store as mentioned in the LEGO Store January 2018 calendar. These include the latest wave of LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi sets, The LEGO Batman Movie, and Justice League BrickHeadz among others. So if you still have some holiday cash to spend, then be sure to check out LEGO’s offers when the clock strikes 12 on midnight of December 31.

In Lieu of The LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Pod (5005376), shop.LEGO.com Has Some VIP Points Specials.

Had things been different today, December 15, then this day would have marked the beginning of the now cancelled promotional period for the LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Metalized Pod (5005376) supposedly as a free gift with purchase of any LEGO Star Wars item worth $60 and above. We reported last week that the whole thing is off, owing to quality control issues with the Darth Vader pods that The LEGO Group did not elaborate on.

Perhaps that’s why shop.LEGO.com opted to roll out special VIP point offers instead, and they’re different depending on which side of the Atlantic it is. For US and Canada, shop.LEGO.com is giving each VIP member 100 extra points whenever they buy a LEGO Star Wars set. Accessories like keychains and non-set items like LEGO books are not included here. This promo lasts from the 15^th to Christmas Eve, December 24.

In Europe, including the UK, France and Germany, it’s a little bit simpler. Their VIP points earned when buying LEGO products are doubled. The only con is that it lasts only from December 15 to 17, on Sunday.

These are not the sought-after Darth Vader Pod (5005375), but it’s still something.

Toys ‘R’ Us Now Offering LEGO DC Super Heroes Sets for 2018.

We’ve run through our schedule of major superhero movies for 2017 – notably the ones from the two publishing pillars and their film studio partners/parent companies. Still, that doesn’t mean there’s no more super-heroic fun to be had. There’s plenty of merchandising goodies coming out for them next year to watch out for, and LEGO (naturally) is at the forefront of that wave.

And of course, we here at The Brick Show have helped cover what’s in store for 2018 in the superhero lineup. If the Mighty Micros vehicle-minifigure sets aren’t quite enough to scratch that super-collecting itch, then how about going for something bigger, and with more than two minifigs?

With respect to Marvel, this time it’ll be DC’s turn on the spotlight. Three LEGO DC Super Heroes sets for 2018, first shown back in July’s San Diego Comic Con, are now making appearances at some Toys ‘R’ Us stores before the year even ends. Sounds like what happened with the LEGO Star Wars Sand-speeder (75204) set too.

A Closer Look at the 2017 LEGO Employee Gift Nutcracker (4002017).

Last week, we caught a glimpse of this year’s LEGO Employee Gift which is exclusively given to all LEGO Brand Store employees at this time of the year. This year, LEGO opted for a more holiday vibe with its complementary set, LEGO Store Employee Gift Nutcracker (4002017). I also remember saying in that post that this particular holiday gift set is probably the least attractive of all the employee gifts that LEGO has released thus far. However, after seeing several unboxing images from AFOL Bartlett via Chinese internet media giant, Sohu.com, I felt that corrections are in order. I am glad that I was wrong with my initial impression since I never had the chance to see the actual set built nor tried out – I just based my comments on its rather unsightly box art.

Thanks to these images shared by Bartlett, we now have a better appreciation of this latest LEGO Store Employee Gift. Official Images of 60 Years of the LEGO Brick (40290) Commemorative Set Now Up.

Earlier this month, the LEGO Store January 2018 Calendar revealed a promotional, commemorative set that celebrates the 60^th patent anniversary of the 2×4 LEGO brick. The 60 Years of the LEGO Brick (40290) is the next gift-with-purchase set expected to be popular among faithful LEGO set collectors. Coming in at 421 pieces, this free promotional set is expected to be available in the US from January 28 until February 14, 2018, for a minimum single-receipt purchase of LEGO products worth $125 and above. I think it should be noted that there is a typo error in this portion of the calendar since it mentions that this promotional item will be available starting January 28, 2017, so I hope LEGO will clear this one up.

The 60 Years of the LEGO Brick (40290) set highlights four mini versions of some of the most iconic LEGO sets, such as Airport Shuttle (6399), Castle (375), Black Seas Barracuda (6285), and Space Cruiser and Moonbase (928). To cap it off, LEGO is also throwing in the highly collectible, commemorative 60^th Anniversary Tile, a white 2×4 tile printed with the 60th-anniversary logo. This set is expected to be very popular among AFOLs, so be sure to take advantage of this promotional set once it goes live in the US on January 28, 2018.
