Earlier this month, Ukraine’s LEGO Catalog gave us a hint on when we can expect the next wave of LEGO Star Wars sets to be released, which are tie-ins to the next Star Wars anthology film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. What we know so far is that this particular LEGO Star Wars theme has currently five sets slated to be released sometime in 2018, a month before the Solo: A Star Wars Story debuts on the big screen on May 25.
Thanks to Rebelscum, we now have a confirmation on when these next LEGO Star Wars sets will exactly rollout. Discovered in the English version of the LEGO Catalog, we have the release date listed by LEGO for the Star Wars Solo sets to be on April 20, 2018.
The news actually first broke out back in July when Brick Fanatics received insider information on the sets’ exact release dates. As it seems, their source is highly reliable. What we don’t know yet are the kind of sets that LEGO has in store for this subtheme. Several leaked images of LEGO Marvel Superheroes Infinity War minifigures have already been posted across various LEGO forums, so it will not take long until we have a hint on what LEGO has in store for Solo.
It seems that LEGO is not just re-releasing larger D2C sets, but also sought after accessories as well. LEGO has uploaded via its servers some official images of the once retired LEGO Blue Building Plate (620) from 2014. Now, this piece of news may not be that exciting for some of us, but for those who missed out on the Blue Building Plate (620), here is the chance to finally build that ocean scenery MOC that you’ve back-burned for quite some time. I know that a lot of serious builders will welcome this move of returning this beloved baseplate accessory, which is now rehashed as the 32×32 LEGO Classic Blue Baseplate (10714).
If you recall, the LEGO Blue Building Plate (620) had a quite shorter life span, being retired shortly after its relatively brief stint in 2014. Afterwards, newer baseplates were introduced in 2015 such as the 32×32 Sand (10699) and Green (10700) Baseplates, and the larger 48×48 Grey (10701) Baseplate, which are all available even until now. However, the Blue (620) Baseplate was retired earlier, in spite of its popularity among fans. The re-release of the LEGO Classic Blue Baseplate (10714) is a welcomed offering from LEGO, and will definitely be one of the most sought after accessories for any LEGO fan – kids and adults alike.
We have no exact retail amount yet, but given the current cost of the Sand and Green Baseplates, it will not be a long shot to consider a price point of $7 to $8, and a release date of sometime in January alongside other 2018 sets.
It had been quite the exciting prospect last month to win a one-time bed-and-breakfast stay at the LEGO House in Billund, Denmark courtesy of Airbnb. Castle Hotel has 250 rooms in three classifications: Knight and Dragon, Royal Princess and Magic Wizard. The structure, which has a very distinctive faux-fantasy medieval castle aesthetic, has also been interpreted in LEGO set form recently, one that will be exclusive only to LEGO Stores in LEGOLAND theme parks worldwide.
For fans that may have only seen The LEGO Batman Movie in cinemas last year, it might be a big surprise for some of them to learn that LEGO and Warner Bros. Animation-DC have long been in a partnership producing direct-to-video animated movies since 2013. Batman – naturally, if DC fans would have it – was simply lucky to have his film get a theatrical release, but he’s already had four LEGO DC DTVs.
Anyway, it seems even though cinema premieres for LEGO animated films have proven to be blockbusters, WB Animation has decided not to abandon its direct-to-TV movies yet. In fact, their next one is due to come out next year and the spotlights will now focus on The Fastest Hero(or minifig) on Earth himself.
Be it known then that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is proud to announce a new LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes film starring The Flash. The trailer they have put up is a whimsical story of fun and action, as Barry Allen/Flash finds himself confronting his equally super-fast nemesis from the future, Reverse Flash, who is trying to ruin his historical reputation. The Justice League is also involved, with plenty of excitement and humor to be had.
LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: The Flash comes out on February 13, 2018 for Digital, and March 13 for DVD ($19.98) and Blu-Ray ($24.98). If there are any minifigures included in the packages, LEGO has given no word as of yet. But it’s about time the speedster gets his turn in the LEGO spotlight. Check out the full press release here.
Yes folks, this is not a drill – and this is not a clickbait either. The Brick Show Team embarked on another mission similar to what they did before, hunting down the latest Nexo Knights, City, and Creator sets around. This time, the team were fortunate enough to have landed on a very nice haul – purchasing all of the 2018 LEGO Batman Movie sets ahead of its January 1, 2018 release! No back door and manager negotiations, no special privileges, just a simple casual stroll over at the nearest Toys R Us store and lo and behold, these prized sets are all for the taking. As it is with their previous hunt, not all of these sets were located in a single store. So it required a good deal of coordination to look for these sets.
Again the, official release for these sets is still on January 1, as you can confirm from shop.LEGO.com but it looks like TRU opted to place these TLBM sets on shelves weeks early. The rule of thumb is if you see them on store shelves, then chances are, you can outright purchase them which the Brick Show team exactly did. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 came out from Warner Bros. Interactive and Traveller’s Tales last month, and since then it’s been fun gameplay galore for gamers who have bought the title on any of the four major consoles.
While the overarching backstory for the game involves time-travel shenanigans courtesy of the (yet to appear on film) future warlord Kang the Conqueror, certain levels of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 are slight adaptations of events from the MCU films. Most prominent of course are the content based on the recently-released movie Thor: Ragnarok. But there are others, in particular one from earlier this year that’ll soon be added to the game via DLC.
The latest DLC pack for LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is going to be based on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which premiered last May. According to the WB Interactive press release, this wave of new content for the title includes characters and alternate versions as depicted in the film.
There’s also a new additional game level in the DLC that calls to mind the awesome first battle (and opening credits) of GOTG Vol. 2; yes, the one where Star-Lord and his fellow Guardians take on a cosmic octopus-like monster called the Abelisk in the background while Baby Groot dances in the foreground.
Star-Lord and Rocket will receive alternate costumes. The new characters added are Yondu’s right-hand man Kraglin, Ravager leader Stakar Ogord (played by Stallone in the movie), Tullk, and bad guy Ego.
Interested LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 players can get the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 DLC by itself or as part of the game’s Season Pass, along with six Level packs and four Character packs. The game itself is available to order from Amazon.
A few months ago, LEGO introduced two accessory sets filled with unique pieces and elements that you can use to decorate your sprawling LEGO minifigure community. Released sometime in July, the LEGO City Build My City (40170) and LEGO Friends Heartlike City (40264) accessory sets are the first accessory packs that are offered less the minifigures, both retailing for $10 each.
This time around, LEGO seems to be expanding the subtheme by offering once again two additional accessory packs belong to the Disney Princess line. I’m not a fan of the Disney Princess theme, but looking at the pieces included in these sets, especially those from set 40307, I must say that LEGO did not spare on adding intricate details on them. I couldn’t figure out exactly if they require stickers to add to those pieces, and it will be very nice indeed if these are actually printed ones. That clock face, in particular, is a pretty valuable and versatile piece that you can use to decorate your next City or Castle project.
These sets are also expected to be available across all LEGO brand stores and at shop.LEGO.com so we’ll keep you posted once we have more information on them.
This newest LEGO collectible minifigure has been out on the Internet for quite some time already, and I feel that our friends over in the UK will love to have this exclusive. As it seems, it looks like the world’s finest (and oldest) toy shop, Hamley’s, will finally have a LEGO minifigure of its own.
The LEGO Hamley’s Exclusive LEGO Royal Guard Minifigure (5005233) is now currently available at the posh toy store, retailing for £6. First revealed by Mark Philip Campbell, Hamley’s current LEGO Manager, via social media, the exclusive minifigure bears a close resemblance to the LEGO Series 5 Royal Guard minifigure (8805) released in 2011. The only difference is that this recent Hamley LEGO exclusive has a cheerful and friendly expression, and a slightly modified torso with added medals and an all white belt and buckle.

It is nice to see that LEGO has been paying attention in offering what I would call as ‘regional’ themed minifigures that speaks a ton about each locality’s unique culture and popular icons. If you recall, the LEGO Store in London also had a similar pitch when it offered the LEGO Lester (40308) minifigure polybag, also retailing for £6. Though Hamley’s is a business entity that has been in the toy selling business for centuries, it already has a specific niche in London’s Regent Street and in the lives of the people who live there.
We don’t have further details other than these preliminary images; however, it looks like that this exclusive is still currently available even after almost a week of its debut. I also hope that the store will offer this as in-store exclusive promotional that comes free for every qualifying LEGO purchase. We just have to wait and see.
These days, LEGO has come so very far from being just a toy company producing children’s building-brick sets. They’ve got licenses to adapt from almost every intellectual property imaginable. Their own properties are now multimedia in reach and scale. They even have their own theme parks, the world-famous LEGOLAND chain.
Much like another theme park chain with a major brand name attached to it, LEGOLAND parks have a particular structure oft-used as a centerpiece image, that being a castle. It seems rather overdue for LEGO to make a set depicting one of their structures, but here it is at last.
The LEGOLAND Castle (40306) set is a mostly-gray model building with colorful accents like flag-topped pennants, surrounding greenery and even a dragon head popping out of one wall. The design appears to be mostly based on the LEGOLAND Castle Hotelat the LEGOLAND in Windsor, Berkshire in England, UK.
From the information gleaned by Brickset, the LEGOLAND Castle (40306) set will have 220 pieces and recommended for age 8 and up. Considering the building it’s depicting, the only place where set 40306 can be found would be as an exclusive offering of LEGO shops in the LEGOLAND theme parks.
That’s too bad for LEGO buyers who aren’t within easy travel of the parks or those who rely on Shop@Home instead. Still, there’s a chance that some LEGO brand stores in other theme parks might end up carrying LEGOLAND Hotel (40306) too. Its retail price is likely $9.99 as usual.
The first weekend of Star Wars: The Last Jedi in the US box office has come and gone (and set a record or two as well). Well ahead of the premiere however, LEGO has been helping stoke the hype with their epic lineup of tie-insets depicting either vehicles or scenes from the film.
A minor follow-up to the LEGO Star Wars Last Jedi tsunami of products is this latest announcement of a new collectible minifigure polybag for next year, tying in to the movie. The character to receive this new minifig is the one-shot role of Benicio del Toro as the shady code-breaker known only as DJ.
Appearing only in the middle of the film, DJ was found by Resistance members Finn (John Boyega) and Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) in the casino resort world of Canto Bight, where they hope to gain his code-breaking skills for a dangerous infiltration mission against the First Order fleet pursuing the steadily dwindling Resistance forces.
How that plot plays out is a sharp example of what Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) meant in his notable Last Jedi dialogue where he says things will not end the way one thinks. And while del Toro’s DJ doesn’t stay long in front of the camera, his small part and its consequences have made him worthy of a LEGO minifigure polybag. Originally shared via Reddit, the LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi DJ (40298) minifigure is the newest collectible that joins the ranks of the LEGO Star Wars R3-M2 (40268) and Scarif Stormtrooper (40176) minifigures. The DJ minifig comes with a similar stand, sticker label and interlocking Technic pins. It is also expected to be another promotional that comes as another gift with purchase, similar to its predecessors as seen below.
LEGO’s choice of TLJ character to immortalize in minifigure form may be noteworthy, but I do hope that LEGO could have thrown in some accessories that is unique to this unpredictable hacker such as his hat, jacket or the unique key cards that he carries with him in the film. It also looks like LEGO is gradually building a theme with these minifigures, and I expect that we’ll be seeing more once the next Star Wars movies hit the big screen such as Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, and the yet to be titled Episode IX. It will surely be nice to see all these Star Wars memento lined up as part of one’s prized LEGO Star Wars collection, and even better if LEGO decides to release similar ones that corresponds to each Episode in the Star Wars saga.
That said, the LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi DJ Minifigure (40298) probably won’t come out until around May of 2018 just in time for the May the 4th, marketing pitch. Oh well, what’s a few months for a new character minifig? We’ll keep you posted.
